  • I'm having a hard time pulling the cartridge off (white piece that you did about 1:35). Any suggestions? I'm scared to break something.

  • How can i remove the back part if the from part broke?

  • Hi..hot watet tap is not working in my bathroom? but hot water works everywhere else in the house...any suggestions?thanks

  • @temirlanx The cartridge may be in backwards, so that the cold and hot channels are reversed. If so, then dismantle the faucet again and rotate the cartridge 180 degrees. I did the same thing the first time. If this isn't the problem, then maybe the limiter setting is too restrictive. Hope this helps.

  • Thanks for the video, it was a huge help, and I'm sure I saved me a lot of money fixing myself.

  • THanks for the vid! I've been battling my cartridge for about three hours o.O . . . it partially calcified in the pipe so I had to use WD-40 and some elbow grease to get it out :)

  • I cannot get my cartridge to go completely back in like you did at the 3:00 minute mark. It literally will not go in all the way. Any idea why?

  • @BamaJay1975 I am having this same issue getting the cartridge all the way back in. Did you ever get this resolved? The shower works fine, but it bothers me.

  • @JMMaxwell71 Yeah, it eventually went back in. It's really odd because I was using all my strength to force it back in and it would not go, so I gently wiggled it with just a little pressure and it eased right in. Good luck, I almost destroyed my entire shower from frustration!

  • Thanks for the video! It was a great help. We fixed our first leaky shower and saved TONS of money! Thanks soo much. :)

  • Thanks for the video. I was able to fix a friend's leaky faucet by watching this. I didn't need to replace the whole cartridge, just the seats and the springs. Luckily, there was a hardware store right across the street.

  • Thanks! I had a faucet that would randomly go from off to full blast when no one was in the room. Sometimes it'd even refuse to turn off regardless of the handle position.

Watched your video and figured out the problem immediately. The previous installer never couple the blue part to the white part so the unit was never sealed properly!

Thanks for helping me fix it myself!

  • OMG !!! Thank you so much for video .I fixed my leaky faucet with your help. Thank you Again.

  • Thanks for the video... this did the trick for me!

  • Well done. Lower end of the cartridge was stuck. watched this video, and realized it just needed to be pulled out. big time saver and allowed me to finish replacement tonight.

  • I'm having a terrible time popping off/out the "white piece" -- which he does around 1:40. I've pulled, pried, tried using a small screw driver like in the video. My faucet is an older model I think, so it looks slightly different but I'm sure that is my next step. I'm just trying not to break something and make the issue even bigger.

  • @atolle81 Ok, so I was finally able to pop off the "white piece." The problem is that the blue piece doesn't come out with it. It stays in the copper tube - and if it comes out, I sure don't know how. Help please.

  • After replacing the entire cartridge I have no hot water! I followed the instructions and set the limiter to the allow the max amount of hot water mixture and still no hot water! Any ideas?

  • @themcmullensaz The cartridge may be in backwards, so that the cold and hot channels are reversed. If so, then dismantle the faucet again and rotate the cartridge 180 degrees. I did the same thing the first time. If this isn't the problem, then maybe the limiter setting is too restrictive. Hope this helps.

  • @longvermontroads Yup, that was it! I actually thought of that on my own, so I dismantled it and checked for blockages and then looked at the writing that was on the side of the cartridge. There's actually a label there that says "Hot Side" and according to the instructions that's the side that should be...well..on the Hot side of the water feed. So I re-inserted it the correct way this time and it worked. Thanks!

  • I love the songs they used in this video. Can anyone tell me which CD the song "IT'S ALL GONE HORRIBLY WRONG" is on from Sait Etienne?

  • @tranth2001 It's on *The Misadventures of Saint Etienne*, which is the soundtrack the band made for the film *The Misadventures of Margaret*. It was a Japanese-only release, and unfortunately it is now out of print.

  • @longvermontroads Thanks for the response. I researched all over the internet to find out what CD that song came from, but couldn't find the answer. I knew if I posted this question with this video, someone would respond. Thanks again!

  • The part at 1:12 is really tight, what is the best way to loosen it up?

  • @hatterick This was in a previous comment: "That brass retainer nut needs WD-40 to soak on it for about 10 min.....then wrap a towel around it & loosen with channel locks. If you don't use the towel you'll tear that brass nut up." Good luck!

  • @longvermontroads Thanks, I soaked it in WD-40 and it still wouldn't come off so i just put the whole thing together and tried again today. It finally came off.

Obviously I'm new to doing repairs around the house. Thanks again!

  • i have one that looks like this, how would I know if its a Delta 1300 or 1400 series, its about 9 years old, and its leaking fast,, where can i get the parts,, thank you

  • @ginnieman29

I sugest you go to the delta web site.

    They have a good site.

I also suggest you call to ensure it's the right part.

I am the original owner and got a replacement for free.

    It was 11 years old.

  • Good video

  • nice! I thought I was the only guy listening to house while doing plumbing :-)

  • thanks very much for your posting tip

  • Thank you for posting this video! Very helpful and well done.

  • you reinstall the cartridge backwards

  • @felipegmunoz Haha, you're the first person to notice! Good eye. That was actually done on purpose. The first time I took apart the faucet to replace the cartridge, I put it in backwards (cold + hot were reversed). This video shows the second time I took the faucet apart, so I could put the cartridge in correctly.

  • can someone please help me. i have something similar to this. i replaced the springs/black cover but I am still getting small drips. could it be the blue cartridge? or is my alignment of something else out of place? please help . so fustrating.

  • @MogTrader After replacing the seats and springs, if you still have a leak, then you need to replace the entire valve cartridge, Delta part number RP19804 (Valve Cartridge - Repair Kit), which costs around $40.

  • @longvermontroads could it be the bottom part ? the out put?

what about alignment w/ the brass fittings?

  • i have the same fitting, but the leak is on the diverter bottom part?

  • I couldn't have done this without You ! Thanks for posting! Feeling pretty 'accomplished' right now! LOL

  • $4.10 in parts and 5 min of Labor. Thank you

    Shannon Jaklic

  • Thank you for posting this. FYI, local plumber told me the 'valve & spring' (as you show) set will solve a leak problem about 95% of the time. Might be worthwhile to note that the gray disk which is immediately behind the plastic knob (visible at 1:00 in video) controls the volume of water. If you want to adjust that while you're at it, remove the disk, rotate it slightly (clock-wise to increase volume), and then slide it back on.

  • Thank you for turning a $60 service call into a $4.14 home repair project!

  • I am still struggling with the brass bonnet! how do i unloosen it?

I real appreciate the sound track by St. Etienne. It make me happy even though the plumbing is a bummer!

  • @MrGorjizz This was in a previous comment: "That brass retainer nut needs WD-40 to soak on it for about 10 min.....then wrap a towel around it & loosen with channel locks. If you don't use the towel you'll tear that brass nut up." Good luck!

  • Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video!!! I came home today from work to find my bathroom tub's spout leaking, and I've got to leave town tomorrow, so I was at a loss. I followed the video just as you made it, and the problem was solved in less than 20 minutes (including time to go get the new seats and springs). Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!

  • Great video. That brass bonnet can be a real witch to get off! It's thin, so pressure used to try and twist it will work against you. It's also just larger than all the channel locks I owned so I had to buy bigger ones. A towel to protect it, some WD-40, and lots of curse words are about the only recipe I can offer.

I also had the problem of the front portion of the cartridge coming off. Took many attempts with vise grips and lots of wiggling to get the back half off.

  • Thanks from Colorado for posting this video, very helpful!

  • video was right and excact, had a little problem with the brass fitting, and forgot to cut off main water valve, but thank you very much, saved over a couple of hundred dollars for something that cost me about, an half hour of times and under 5 dollars

  • Had A LOT of hiccups.. but in the end it still worked! thank you :)

  • Thank you very much for posting this video. I followed the instructions step by step and fixed the leakage. It saved me $100. I really appreciate you taking the trouble to post this video.

  • Thanks for the help. The only thing I neglected to do was TURN OFF THE WATER SUPPLY! Needless to say, I'm soaked now...but thank you for the awesome instructional video.

  • Good tutorial

Was laughing when to music came on about the plumbing going bad

"No hot water think I oughta call a plumber what a bummer"

    LMAO!!!

  • hey, I had the same leaking problem but i'm having a problem getting the screw out in 0:45

did anyone else have this problem? if you did, any solutions? I tried the WD40 but it didn't work and i really want to get the leaking fixed since it doubled my waterbill this month. help?

  • Thanks for the vid....great information. I replaced the seats & springs due to a faucet leak but it still leaked. I called Delta & they are sending me a full new cartridge to replace my old one. I wouldn't have known it was under warranty if I hadn't read your information. Saved me $40......Thank you.

  • I had the same problem, follow step by step, it worked easily. Fyi, it might need a plier to turn the brass bonnet. Take the old cartridge to Home Depot to replace a new one. It's life time warranty to replace a new one at no cost. Put it back in and dripping stop. Thank you for posting and sharing.

  • @samtai56 Good to hear it helped! Thanks for the warranty info - I will add a link to Delta's warranty page to the video description.

  • I have the same exact faucet but the problem I am having is no hot water is coming out yet the sink near by has hot water. How would I go about fixing this? Thanks in advance for any coments.

  • @The2010Spaniard Maybe the valve cartridge is in backwards? If so, then the hot and cold water channels are reversed. If this is the case, to fix it, take the cartridge out and rotate it 180 degrees before putting it back in at this step: #t=02m48s

  • @samtai56 Proof of purchase (original sales receipt) from the original consumer purchaser must be made available to Delta for all warranty claims. • I just wanted to say this video saved me BIG BUCKS, TY!!! I had the same problem upstairs called a plumber and within minutes he was done cost me HUNDREDS of dollars only to be able to do this myself. I went to LOWES spent $36.00 and within 10 minutes...BAM BOOM BLOW!!!!!! IT WAS DONE!!! TY TY TY :)

  • @littlebusta Glad it worked out! Thanks for sharing.

  • This video saved me from calling in a plumber. My shower faucet/valve is identical to the one shown, but it didn't come apart as easily as shown. When I pulled out the cartridge, the back half stayed stuck inside the valve body. I finally resorted to chiseling that part to smithereens to get it out. The new cartridge also was a very tight fit and was not going to go in without a fight. Just my luck, I guess...but the drip is gone, so all's well that ends well. Thank you for the video.

  • @EricaElric Great! Glad it saved you some money. Thanks for the comment.

  • Thanks for the video! I was able to repair the faucet myself with no prior experience. I need a new valve cartridge and found one at my local Home Depot for $40.

Also...I needed to use a channel lock pliers and WD-40 to get that brass fitting off that you were able to get by hand. Just FYI for anyone else watching with a sticky fitting.

    Thanks again!!!

  • @boneshakersband Thanks for sharing the tip for others. I, too, had no prior plumbing experience before this...I was amazed to find out that it was really easy to do.

  • @boneshakersband Great point.....That brass retainer nut needs WD-40 to soak on it for about 10 min.....then wrap a towel around it & loosen with channel locks. If you don't use the towel you'll tear that brass nut up. Mine was originally installed in 1997 so it had plenty of mineral deposits built up around it holding it in place.
