Crankshaft position sensor. It's giving incorrect readings under 1k RPM, causing the injectors to open late, causing a very rough and choppy idle, Once you get your truck warm, it runs fine, correct? Or if not fine, but having an idle that fluctuates 200rmps or so?
I have a 98 but it dose the same thing and I've bought 3 brand new mass air flow sensors and some other parts but it still never ran I don't know what else to do
I have a 1994 Ford Ranger 4.0 that's doin the same thing. I changed the MAF sensor and it did nothin. I then cleaned the IAC valve and the throttle body and still didn't fix the problem so today I put the code reader on it with the key on the run position without my truck cranked and the computer gave the code reader a 33 code which is basically the EGR valve is stuck open so tomorrow I'm goin to clean that and I just found out I got a bad vaccuum hose at the Throttle body. HOPE THIS HELPS
check the engine temperature sensor. When its broken it will constantly read the engines temperature at either super hot, or super cold. So the choke valve is either open fully or basically closed, which will make your truck not stay on like that and shake
It can be that you have a loose vacuum line try checking them if that doesnt work try changing the gas it has you aid you bought it who knows if the gas in it is old. If that still doesnt work take it to a mechanic to see whats wrong or try seafoaming it. Good luck
i have a 2003 ford edge and it does this, i finally hooked up the cpu to it and it was my pcv valve and tubing that were no good. air leak..... it will cost you about 10 bucks..
dude, change the mass air flow unit. its like 60 bucks at napa.it take five min anf problem solved. mine did that shit for 4 years and after changing part after part and nothing happened, i finally broke down nd changed the maf and its like i have a new truck.
my 1988 F150 is having a similar issue, it will idle at start, then spit black smoke sputter and die, and i have no clue what it is. it has new plugs, wires, new fuel filter
My 4L v6 94 ranger started doing this 3 days ago. we have been tearing into it all evening. It is blowing black smoke out of the tail pipe when trying to idle. Have cleaned the MAF sensor and but i will replace it tomorrow since the codes say its still bad. I sent this link to a professional and he said it could be the idle air control motor has gone bad.
@booming357 have you checked the tps? My 4runner does that, and it tells me its got a bad tps. If I hold the gas utill its warm, it will run right, but it blows black smoke, and runs rich until warm.
im kinda havin the same problem some days mine will crank and run a lil bit some days it won't found out it was the fuel pump cut off switch under the carpet on the passenger side my mechanic told me to take the 2 wires running to it strip them run them together and then tape them up and that should by pass it the switch usually shuts off if the truck hits a bad bump try this and let me now if it works for u
in this video I added no Gas until it stalled. After that I started it and held it above normal rpms. as i held it, you notice the rpms drop on it own.
sensor issues most likely. happened to me on both mass air flow and dpfe.

Also try checking the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.

I would try a fuel pressure test first. If it is not a fuel pressure issue try the idle air control valve.

@Shitheadbballer13 There is no choke on a 1994 ford ranger, it's fuel injected.
