  • Thanks for the good video. I have made several "extensions" from deer cannon bone. Its the bone between the hoof and leg bone. Must say that yours is much bigger than mine though, both the bone and wood piece that fits into the top and the handhold. The bone provides better friction with the cord.

  • wilson!!!!!!

  • That a fancy bow drill set you got there!

I like the natural advanced technology.

  • what kind of trees can you get the branches from?

    please respond

  • subscribe to my channel and Ill tell you all about the woods :)

  • i keep on trying to get a coal but all i get is smoke and some ash

  • Drill for atleast 50 seconds, dont stop cause youve seen smoke and if it isnt damp you will get a coal, promise, I use sycamore or maple

  • what works best for the preasure block.

  • a stone that fits nicely in your habd that you can dig a notch into to hold the spindle.

  • i dont know if this is a retarded question but with the base, do you have make the hole for the spindle, or is that the result of the spindles friction. plz respond

  • Well you have to make an indent for it to start. But after that, its all friction, and it will eventualy burn through.

  • what type of string did you use?

  • In thise video I used Parachute cord, but after this I use buckskin

  • thnx man

  • Okay, an annoying question. I notice that you used manufactured twine on your bow. Do you suppose the natives of old used leather strings from animal-hides they had tanned when they did this?

  • Good question, and yes, they did. I actualy replaced that string with a cordaged bucksin one. I also have a basswood fiber back-up string if that one breaks.

  • Recalling the movie "Castaway" again, the reason it took the guy so long to get a fire going is that he didn't have any material to use as string for a bow, so he had to rotate his spindle between his clasped hands. The advantage that the bow mechanism provides is that it holds the spindle in place while the gross thrusts of your arm give the ability to put a lot more energy into each turning of the spindle.

  • but didnt he eventually get fire from the rub board method? thats one of the more tedious methods, where you just rub a hardwood stick down a groove length wise on a softwood board. and i think the trick is to stop your down stroke at the same spot so your embers collect at the same spot. but not for sure.

  • Yes, he used the polynesia fire plow if I recall... I havnt watched that movie in a long time though..

  • pretty cool pretty cooool

  • Interesting! Would like to have seen more. : )

  • the rest of the video is here http://youtube.com/watch?v=ohguGg5Q1KA

  • Thanks pitatapiu! I checked out the other video. I've never seen anyone do that. Only took a few minutes to get fire. What, maybe 10 - 15 minutes total? Amazing!

  • less than that actualy. it in all honesty took about 3 minutes total. the world record is 7 seconds
