  • Even though it's hopeless at off road, it makes up for being so fast and fun to drive. Besides,110% of all SUV owners out there never took and never will take their vehicles off road.

  • If you said that Lexus or Cadillac was 75% brand name, I would totally agree. They just rebadge lesser vehicles and sell them at a premium. However, BMW is an independent company that sells one-of-a-kind vehicles. The company was not originally founded to cater to image-conscious consumers. BMW now has cache after earning its reputation building fun-to-drive performance cars.

    Plus, you would have to do tens of thousands of dollars of tuning to get those cars to compete with the X5 M.

  • I still prefer the wonderfull v10 engine without any turbo and with the best M-Sound ever!!! It is sad that the M GmbH will not have his own M5/6 engines anymore. Instead of this they will put a tuned 7 series V8 in the new M5. For that I wouldn`t buy a new M5. Since ever the M GmbH had their own engines.

  • alpina B7 is there... check out the website for alpina and you will find that it has 4.4 L engine with 0 - 100 only 4.5 sec... mercedes needs more than 6 litre engine to give the same performance..

    Mercedes' ML63 or which ever 63 model you're talking about is powered by a large displacement engine, with no force induction.

    The B7 is a twin turbo base set up, you remove the two turbos and good luck with your comparison.

    You're comparing apples to oranges. Two different forms of generating horsepower. No way in hell you can get a naturally aspirated BMW 4.4l V8 to produce 500+ HP.

  • thanks for your comment....I did not say the 63 models.. but I am comparing the 65 models which comes with following specifications:

    mercedes S65: V12 twin turbo 6.0 , 0 - 60 in 4.4 seconds.

    for BMW B7: V8 twin turbo 4.4 litres ONLY and 0 - 60 in 4.5 seconds

    so now compare them.. I think apples to apples... both are turbo charged ... and BMW wins because of less engine displacement...

    sure mercedes is more luxury than the BMW

  • @methqal2000 I now have a 4.8 X5, it's plenty fast and agile. I previously had the 4.4i X5. It was also a nice car. Give me the BMW brand SUV over them all including the Cayenne. The pneumatic leveling reacts quickly in turns so that I don't throw my passengers out.

  • The M philosophy that we all know and love was thrown out the window for the tree huggers, marketing reasons, and penny pinching. I remember when BMW M scoffed at competing manufactures (MB AMG/ Audi RS) for using forced induction in their high performance lines. Now BMW goes and does the same thing. Thanks BMW for going against your word and philosophy while answering a question no one asked.

  • Anybody who thinks that BMW X6 is not a gorgeous car is obviously blind. I don't care about practicality, sense e.t.c. X6 is a beautiful car, and I actually like regular 50 better. It's like a Ferrari F355 in a sense, there isn't a line wrong on it.

    And the point of this is: 1. BMW. 2. Beauty. 3. Can get me to my fav lake through a mild off road situation while being fun on a twisty blacktop while getting there.

  • yea...not only the x6 but all the bmw cars are gorgeous (except the newer models like the new 5 series gt for example)...the only thing that i don't like is that this model and other models too don't come with a manual transmission....the best car in the world (in my opinion) is the bmw m5...so too bad it dosen't come with a manual transmission but the smg 7 speed...

  • The engine is great, yes I understand that. All the fine work done deserves credit and praise indeed. However the shell or body surrounding this symphony is not holding up to bmw standards. It looks like some 15 yr old kids wet dream of a sports machine. The m3 will still be my favorite bmw ever. I don't look like a sports car fan poser in that.

  • Any car company could make a big ass sports car with a huge motor and put an ugly ass shell over it and call it a suv. This is not a suv or a car, its some ugly ass sabb looking vehicle. It has no function as a car with any practical use. If you try racing it you will get destroyed. take it off road and get stuck, a real good investment here. The verdict, sounds and looks like crap, must be crap.

  • NOT anybody can design an engine like this. Take your head out of your ass and come to the realization that - no matter what they put it in, BMW designs and builds the most amazing engines out there. A reverse-flowing V8 with twin turbos in the center of the "v"? They even selected which cylinders pulse to each turbo so that both receive a "pulse" at each 90deg. turn of crankshaft - 21psi stock? Remember, they got 340hp out of a non-forced induction 3.2L I6? Incredible engineering, period.

  • If you want an suv get one, if you want a sports car get one. This is a poor combination of the two. An m3 is a great sports car, this is only going to ruin the name and balance bmw m class adding this fat ass car. It's like an m3 that ate at burger king for a year.   • Not if you tune it up. mine will destroy most bmws, and where I drive, its not all about speed in line. I like turns and and canyon driving. I will say a 325i is a sexy looking car, it has good lines and an aggressive stance. My boxster looks strange with the top up, but when its down, gotta love it!

  • look up the history of a roadster, they are designed to look flat, that's the point. lol as if i want to be sitting up high with a windshield at a 90 degree angle slapping the air.   • @defm1 actually the boxster and cayman are highly regarded for their mid-engine balance. their handling is better than the 911's, and many people buy them for this reason. they are intended for purists, but unfortunately they have acquired the stigma for being "cheap" porsches

The only people that will buy it the ones that only read a cars hp and want and go fast in a straight line, it has no real purpose as a car. It looks looks like a big pumped up m3/ aztec! From the side the balance is off. No real sports car fan or suv fan would drive this garbage.. You can't drive this up angles crest! The infinity looks 1000 time better from all angles, even sounds better!

  • Not necessarily, twin turbos and 4.4 liters means that the power comes on fairly early. Full torque is available from 1500 to 5600 rpm.

    1) This is a performance SAV for rich people (don't hate if you cant afford it)

    2) 1/4 is great given the fact that it weighs sooo much.

    3) Handling is better than many "sports cars" (or wanna be sports cars) out there with .92G SP.

    4) The base X6 looks like a BEAST on the road, imagine the X6 //M would look

    5) I'm sure that a software and exhaust mod can boost this biturbo 4.4L V8 to 700hp flywheel HP easy.

  • I saw the BMW X6 50i today and my personal opinion is that it is not particularly good looking but it definitely is a very muscular car, like the car has very aggressive lines. I like it though but paying like 40,000 more for X6M from the the base 50i is just not worthit.

  • Because the M3 is a true M car, which means naturally aspirated, so it makes less power than this turbo beast.
