I remember my parents going to the festival to see Ike and Tina Turner. I soon after began attending concerts and some incredible concerts, including: James Taylor; Peter, Paul and Mary; Jackson Browne; Poco; and Dave Mason. I miss those days!
The team dad worked with, Bill Clover, Lyle Ward, Roger Lowery, Terry Profit, Donna Yates, Rich Madison, Bob Handy, Bill Crabb, Charlie Cox. I, too am truly Blessed to have all these people come into my life. Dad's original office, Rock Jr. High School in E. St. Louis. He had a student, named Danny Mosely, what a tremendous man, always with a smile. Those 7 years in Edwardsville, just a life changing experience. Thank-you SIU-E.. A real cultural difference from Fairfield, Iowa& Parsons College.
I watched the Moon Landing @ the MRF, saw Van Cliburn, as well. What a crowd for the WHO, and their opening act Wishbone Ash, Bob Dylan making a triumph return. Arlo Guthrie singing the motorcycle song. I thank-dad for giving me the opportunity to work, dad Robert M. Reed director of student activities. Dad, told me that some men just dream about having a team of people to work with, that I am Blessed to have worked with.
@checotahkid ...thanks for your memory of that WHO concert! Two incredible rock bands (Probably one of the first times 'Won't Get Fooled Again' was performed live). I was one of the thousands who crashed that party from as far away as Michigan (we were from St. Louis, but we met folks from MI). Long Live the MRF!...
AS a original team member, what memories. I worked with Charlie Anderson, a senior in ed.math, a senior in h.s @EHS Phil Curry, and me. We worked for Bill Crabb in food service, we expedited the food from the Union to the MRF. I got to serve Joan Baez, in the trailer tea & crackers as she was with child. I also served Janis Joplin as we were setting up. My immediate boss was Jim Taylor, his adminstrative assistant Jenny Taylor, and Ruthie Cole. Was @ all the concerts, never did see one.
My Aunt and Uncle had a farm down the highway from here and we could literaly hear the concerts going on there.
