@wolfensden actually no this is an ancient level of Judo. If you watch some of the greatest of today's Judo i believe they are better for instance watch "Kano: A New Wind" his ippon compared to this one is absolutely astonishing...
i think you mean koga and i have seen it.. koga does it different he does it so it works for him.. the way tokio hirano does it can be thought to everyone and everyone would be able to do it becouse it is proper kodokan judo.. alot of judo has gone out the window in recent years. This, This is real judo and what it should look like.
@wolfensden This what you think real Judo is like. But if you understood anything about what Jigoro Kano did you would know he was very big on self perfection, and he constantly told his student that the moves were shown in the most simplest of ways to SIMPLY gain understanding of the mechanics of each technique. From their once they understood the mechanics he urged them to adapt each move to further perfect their technique. Judo is not about conforming it is about perfecting.
@raphaelhudson why is it not kosen judo? from what i've seen kosen just means more or less..like a high school or college judo club. has nothing to do with style or technique. its just old school kodokan judo before all the rule changes.
@kempobrad "Kosen" judo is a term used to mean the judo practiced in those schools and taught by their sensei. The prime emphasis for safety reasons was on ne waza. This video is tachi waza and shows no such style. A second answer might be that this was a demonstration of Hirano's own style of standard kodokan tachi waza at a conference of adult black belts probably in the 50s, and that as far as I know Hirano was not trained by a Kosen school and had nothing to do with Kosen judo.
If I'm correct....they are doing this on concrete! Watch when the camera pans around those aren't tatami's! WOW! OUCH! No wonder old Judoka never die....they just can't get up! Brilliant technique though. Thank you for posting it.

well thats a bit harsh.. kano was for self perfection and his main goal was not technique at all but to
better yourself as a person through physical and moral training.technique was just something accuired through the judokas efforts.
