  • @xgotfiveonitx...trust me bro,,,these people dont understand tht kinda stuff...they just need some sorta excuse to go out and protest..i am a hindu...but not an ignorant one...like muslims kill hindus...we all know what hindus do to muslims...if noone knows about it...read the articles on what happened in gujarat...and the image of rama ..tht was for a different reason..the hindus bought tht kid along with em to the riot to show tht hindus r superior and rama is superior..tht was the storyline!!

  • ya thats true it was part of the storyline, and later when jamal is interviewed by the cop he blames both parties to the riot and says 'if it wasnt for allah and ram i would still have a mother'. thats why i didnt understand why didnt they catch that part there? so they are probably making politics out of it. i assumed it had to do with the word dog, because its a culture clash. here in america everyone loves dogs, and being refered to as a dog, means someone who suffers and struggles.

  • as for the 1992-1993 riot scene that is shown in slumdog, i have a documentary about those riots, and the police role in them, up on my profile page that you can check out.

  • Why do these people have to make a big freakin' deal out of everything? Don't they have anything better to do than make mountains out of molehills? People are right, they're probably just looking for 15 minutes of fame.

  • lol i expected this type of reaction. what it is really is a clash of cultures. what they dont understand is that 'dog' is not meant to be insulting, because here in the west we use phrases like 'he works like a dog', it means someone who suffers and toils, but in that part of the world a dog is used as an insult, similar to the way we call a cop a pig like that. but ya i agree they are making a big deal out of nothing and need to shut da fuck up lol.

  • In India, the word "dog" ("kutta") is just as offensive as the word "bitch" ("kutti"), whereas in Western countries, only "bitch" is offensive and "dog" is not.

Those people protesting in India would probably find the word "slumdog" just as offensive as "slumbitch".

It's just one of those things that get "lost in translation" between different languages and cultures.

  • No, Im pretty sure if you called somone a dog in western countries, they would get offended too :P But this is the lesson of themovie, that no matter how low we are we can be something. This is not a reason to protest xD

  • Not really. In Western countries, it depends on the context of the word "dog". It could mean an insult or it could be a compliment, like "underdog" or "yo dogg".

In India, there is only ONE context for the word dog ("kutta") and that would be an extremely offensive one. You need to keep in mind that there is no equivalent Hindi word for "underdog" or "yo dogg".

These slum-dwellers don't speak English, so the intended meaning of "slumdog" would obviously be completely lost to them.

  • frickin dumb f@#ks

  • its ok you can cuss lol

  • Looking for 15 minutes of fame!

  • Grow up you "nothing to do Indians"
