Not question as such is absurd, but there are so many factors, that making fast conclusions without understanding more general situation might be kind of absurd.
Right, the new rules don't ban continuous punching, fortunately. But you can check that after introduction of new rules, still in many competitions in China they prefered to adopt old set of rules.
In cases of some trials, they also tend to use the set of rules which is more convenient for one side, or at least makes it safer.
Asking this kind of questions about what happend is just absurd. There were many meetings and trials, in different situations and with different results. Just opportunities of getting various experiences and better understanding what you are doing, what others are doing, what are differences, what can be adopted, and what should not. There is nothing special to talk with those who don't understand anything, and seek other meaning.
It was changed only for some professional events, like Sanda Wang, where only those who previously got medals at all China level in normal sports sanda and additionally conformed to high standard of physical fitness (had to undergone many tests, including running, jumping, laboratory examinations etc.)were admitted.
dacheng, the particular sports sanda punching to the head is outdated. I think it has been allowed to punch continuously to the head for a number of years now, at least since the start of Sanda Wang.
It's good if the intention is to challenge oneself. But it seems excuses are made about losing and people doesn't seem to want to talk about what happened?
This rule is still valid in normal sports sanda and it will not change, as long the Chinese still think about making wushu Olympic event and eventually also make sanda part of it.
And if some yiquan people win in sanda, so what? It only means that they spent enough time in training specific for sanda rules. Which is something completely different from yiquan approach. So why should people care about such things? Better start learning, and not only start, but continue longer, so you can better understand, instead posting absurd comments and absurd questions.
Anyway I found the site so I will post something there to find out what happenned. I am not here to bad mouth yiquan. I just want to know more about the event. Thanks.
So apart from the fact that most are not professionals, because in present situation yiquan doesn't allow this kind of carreer as sanda, even if they are really good, it doesn't mean that they need to win in part of chess or other game. But would you say that yiquan is useless after you learn that some yiquan person lost in chess? :-)
Normally yiquan people don't train like this, because it makes no sense from point of view of normal fighting. They learn continuing attack and destroying with all possible means, like for 'die or stay alive' extreme situation.
And in sports sanda after punching head, you cannot continue, only do something else (the standard rules, lately in some professional events the rule was changed). So they put a lot of effort to develop habits of not hitting head twice and instead using other kinds of combinations. They learn tactics of a lot of throwing, because they know that they risk only loosing one point if being hit to head, and on the other side there is 3 points for throw.
Yiquan is not about learning not to hit, like sanda is :-). Yiquan is about hitting and using opportunity when you hit opponent to continue your attacks with all parts of your body.
Yiquan from the very beginning is opposing this kind of attitude, talking about total use of your body and potential, and not superficial, partial - jubu like Wang Xiangzhai would call what they do in sanda.
Why should yiquan people not accept the challenge? It would make no sense. Why not use opportunity to learn something. Only those who after this come to wrong conclusions are to be blame :-)
So what: you have a group of amateurs-hobbysts or short time practitioners, and they have opportunity of comparing to something like half professionals. Why shouldn't they? And accepting rules of the other side. Why shouldn't they? Yiquan is about learning and developing, using all kinds of opportunities.
There were also some smaller bouts, and results were various depending on many factors. There were situations when sanda guys had to be sent to hospital after some trials in a park. That's all is for people who are engaged to get experience in various situation, to understand better themselves what they are doing, and not for some people from outside, who understand nothing about it to judge anything.
Unfortunately it is not possible to place page addresses in comments here. But in the description on right side of video you can find addresses of our pages.
There were many less of more formal competitions and meetings with sanda guys. The results were various. There are instances of yiquan people getting medals at sanda championships. A few years ago first All China tournament of traditional wushu was organized and yiquan guys got something like 5 medals in fighting on platform.
Where is your forum? I'm not here to argue. I just wanted to know if such an event happenned and if so, if I can get more details about it. I do agree with the reasons you have above, so if the event I enquired did happened, the yiquan guys should know their limitations and not accepted the challenge.
You need to understand this kind of problems if you want to compare or judge anything. This is not a game fair for everybody, and inside there are more difficult issues than you can imagine.
Imagine that you are physically fit, able, young Chinese man, the kind which becomes good competitive fighter. Would you choose:
A. Offer of a government supported sanda team, where you can make kind of career, not pay for training, instead getting all kinds of privileges?
B. Yiquan school which is not government supported, where you need to pay a lot, so you learn irregularly or just come for a few weeks intensive course?
C. Yiquan group where teacher is just a hobbyst himself?
Please at least read those topics like "Is this yiquan" and "Yiquan vs. other ma" at our forum, to get some better idea about real problems in yiquan development.
I heard a Yiquan group got smashed by fighters from a university sanda group. Do you guys know anything about it? Is so can you provide more info about it?
For the record, I used to love the thought of training Yi Quan. I trained very briefly in Beijing but I do feel the same way as ashwix, ie. they do not seem to be evolving.
i have cleaned those graves before...and have tremendous respect for both Yao, and his teacher Wang.
All of the people speaking in this video are trapped in the past, still trying to understand what Yao and Wang before him had understood decades before us.
Wang and Yao were true innovators. They evolved thier art. This generation of Yiquan leaders have failed to live up to this precedent.

Why is it absurd to ask about what happened?
You are still wrong re the continuous punching rule. Even in sanshou (ie. amateur events) now, it has been allowed for a number of years now.

And talking about rules.
Sports sanda is about hard training of techniques, tricks and tactics working in this specific set of rules.

Funny when you are talking as if you met Wang and old Yao :-) and you understood so much yourself, while in fact you know nothing :-)
