you know what... I do have the same problem. that's why i repeatedly put it back up...

there are some guitars (e.g. mine :D) where you can't tighten your whammy... just the way it is... which guitar do you have?

I mean no disrespect by what i'm about to say but the tuning is wrong. Wes Borland tunes down all the strings a step and a half. C# F# B E G# C#.

If there are doubts about the way the trem is used, just see mike playing the song live at finsbury park. You can see it clearly.

He uses an "auto-wah" pedal which creates the special sound to many of the notes. DOD fx envelope or something. Anyway it's kinda nice tutorial.

to make it sound exact like the song instead of pushing the trem down, move your right hand down the trem till your hand comes of it to get the trem to flutter, dats the way it should be

Dude I think he flutters in the verse. Flutter being when you hit the whammy hard and let your hand slide off of it so that the bridge makes the harmonic vibrate.
