  • i do like card games and this has made me decide on my decision that i am getting it :)

  • White Mana- This color is usually played by white supremacists, Neo-Nazis and religious fanatics who, when not spending their money on crack, heroin, Fascist flags and bibles, buy cheap flimsy cardboards to use as rolling papers. Being racists, they always buy white Magic cards. Like their supreme overlord(Hitler), this color is all about totalitarianism and order. White is a traditional colour of totalitarian nationalists and Ku Klux Klan. It's a huge satisfaction defeating white mana Nazis.

  • While I am not a huge fan of the type of games you are reviewing, I have to say that your reviews are excellently done. In my opinion these are far superior and professional than those of "professional" reviewers like IGN or Gamespot. Keep it up.

  • come on i got one mana down, im not gonna giant growth it, i promise... hahaha

  • There are too many problems with this game, for one it will not allow you to chose what step goes first in the main phase, you have to go standard-attack-standard. Second when you have creatures with abilities that can be activated, after an hour of frustrated searching there was no way to use said abilities even when it is your turn.

As a seasoned player of Magic card game, do not get this ..It will only irk you off knowing that everything you have been accustomed to, is irrelevant

  • omg...

  • Thanks

  • It's interesting the mentoring mode though, can be really useful for new players.

Anyway, thanks for the review, it's the 2nd time i watch it haha but it's a really worked and detailed review, so thanks for it = D

  • I'm most probably gonna get this game. Still remember as a teenager starting it with a bunch of cards, and keep buying new decks as soon as i had saved some money xD

Sadly it seems most my playfriends dropped it off, and after a couple years having no one to play with, it's sweet to see this out.

  • I did just that and so far its really fun. I'm like 5/7 for online play. I really like the vampire deck and apex deck.

  • I have been really wanting to try magic. I played DBZ when i was in 4th and 5th grade. I really like the idea of TCG. My question would this be the best way to learn the game and see if I would like it? $10 to try online or $20 for a starter deck and then learn/find someone to play with.

  • @vinegarchip Learn with the game. Unless you know a place that live people hang out and play Magic and would be willing to teach you. And even then they will most likely have a deck for you to use. It's one of my favorite things to build starter decks and teach people to play and gradually move them into my advanced decks. However if this is not the case then just buy the computer version and learn that way. It will do a fine job teaching you the rules of magic and how it is currently played.

  • haha being called a asshat by a 11 year old xD i about died when you said that

  • hello fans? lol what a retard

  • I just defeated Nissa leaving her with -160 life :) on Mage

  • I WANT THIS GAME I LOVE MAGIC IN GENERAL

  • oh shit, reading some comments here makes me afraid of some kids i might find playing this <_<;; i might stick to the cards if i get too many "yu-gi-oh" shit going around xD or stick to the AI.

  • @FaustSketcher anyone that is 17 or younger was exposed (and probably sucked into) to yu-gi-oh...we just need to reeducate them...:P

  • @toilet822 lol yes XD

  • Man i used to play the heck out of it, started with cards my friends would hand me, and get more on bet-games and winning cards, damn this was my school years right there.

  • i just started 2012 version, btw im new to magic the gathering. i cant belive how much pokemon and digimon tcg stole from this!

  • i stopped playing the game when i was 10 and that was during the giant yugio phase. but i think im gonna go back for 10 bucks and multyplayer and mentoring and such

  • Can I use a spell to giant growth my already large schlong?

  • what is the Magic game called at 0:27 ??? Never heard of that one

  • ..............

  • so im on the eisiest difficulty and i cant even defeat koth! wtf this game is so hard

  • Should I get this, peggle or Da vinci disappearance pack?

  • how do i customize my decks? it only allows me to add/remove cards that ive WON from matches. is there any way i can remove the cards that already came with the deck?

please someone answer, itll be greatly appreciated.

  • i love how the psn version is free i havent played magic in years cause all the local ppl around my area stopped

  • Deck editing just sounds terribly dumb.

  • I've actually like the older games better. These new ones is clearly made for people new to the game, it's kinda stupid if you ask me.

  • Haha, love the Halo line. I laughed so hard.

  • yu gi oh is for kids... magic is for Grown up "kids" that have a working brain...

All the kids that started playing magic in these "uh it's free" days on PSN are so dumb and can't play Magic at all.. even with a Classic green deck...

I started playing Magic when it came to PSN... and now i'm a mediocre player... and have a closed full of "Pants" xD

  • 4 people are yu gi oh players

  • this game looks so bad, even though it is free, i am not going to buy it.

  • @dildodill13 xD Even if it's free, you're not going to "buy" it? Lol sorry jk It's definitely not a bad game. If you know the card game or are one for critical thinking and light puzzle solving, this game is a perfect change of pace from whatever Activision trash most people are probably worshiping.

  • @MichaelCastian its just a gay version of yu gi oh

  • @dildodill13 Woooww. Seriously? This game was created AGES before that simplified kids game. And what is the point of using a sexual term to describe something which has no gender. I have to say, that's rather immature, but I digress. I can confidently say that this game takes legitimate problem solving skill that should be appreciated by anyone with a functioning cerebellum.

  • @dildodill13 Hearing something liek that from a RWJ viewer....

  • @dildodill13 LOL ye sure, here you just got the lame-troll-award of the day, what a lame statement, i hope you were trying to be some sort of troll, otherwise i'm sorry to tell you, you are pretty retarded.

  • i really loved the game but i think the father of this game is better u know what im talking about yo gi ih lol

  • This is easily the best Magic: The Gathering video game to date, but I agree with the reviewer, in that the next one should have a deck-builder, and I also think it would be nice if they could go all-out and have EVERY card ever in it, being able to change the rules to suit the set your playing. :-)

  • Elf, Vampire and Eons of Evil decks are op.

  • started playing as soon as I got it free, never played mtg before so it's a little complicated lol. But I like it, the single player can be tough though

  • Finallly!!! I always wantedto get into Magic but None of my friends play it! .. But now i can learn ho and play with some new friends ill meet :D

  • I Dont Know How To Fucking Play This Game Is Soo I Dont Know Hard I Think Yu Gi Ho Is More Easy To Play

  • @SuperJoel67 i hope u do know Yugioh is a rip off of MTG as MTG is basically the ancestor of any trading card game. btw, i play Yugioh as well as MTG, i have been playing Yugioh online for about 3 years

  • @KuhoinX Oh Cool I Didnt Know, This Is My First Time I Play Card Game Was Free On PS3 So I Download Lol

  • @SuperJoel67 just tried, the control is quite awkward on ps3 :/ it is difficult to use trick like apply shivan dragon's add ATK ability after enemy declare block but before damage phase cause there is no clear distinction between stages within a phase

  • @KuhoinX Ok I Will Thank You

  • @something013 I'm watching this because PS Plus has it on there for free! But doesn't look like it's worth downloading...

  • i thought this would be some cool fighting game it was free so a gotit ... it was free so mhe than i googled it i foud out how GAY IT WAS ... FUCK

  • guys is it really that good should i download it

i mean it is free =)

  • @fa9ooll personally i like it . but that just me my friend hates it.

  • its free

    for ps3 fuck yeah

  • someone wanna boost the online ones? reply

  • Fleshlight DON'T PUT THIS INTO GOOGLE

  • @Icebolt666 FUCK U dam it i should have listend 2 u =(

i will never be the same

  • i spent my bandwidth... on a virtual yugioh....

  • Thumbs up if you're watching this because you're getting a month free PSN and it's gonna be free.

  • @RyanPlaysShizz what? this game is free for psn plus?

  • @KuhoinX Yeah.

  • @RyanPlaysShizz this might not be free, if the PSN Plus has a free trial, i might try it out,

and so far only see the demo and hope it is better than the original.

  • @RyanPlaysShizz lol i thought is was a 3rd person action game but its actually this card shit

  • @PurpleZebraKILLS Yeah me too, I was like "woah that looks epic" - Turns out it's a shitty card game...

  • No deck editor ? I'll pass.

  • Lol at the pokemon trading card game game for the game boy colour having a better deck editor.

  • @ViewtifulGenesis Oh ok, well thatn's not bad at all! I'll have to check it out. Thanks :)

And from what I can recall, I believe I can buy it through steam? But I'm not sure.

  • Yeah it was a great game, but just a little bit too slow moving between turns, you cant 'Undo' actions and the lack of deck customization kills it.

It needed a points system, where every game you won a number of points which you could buy single cards or boosters with it. Gah they had a great opportunity to make this awesome but fell short

  • I play the card game and I'd like to play it on my pc but the cards you use do you have to buy? I mean I have so much money invested into real cards I'd hate to have to pay for them all over again just so I can play online.

  • One question - Does this game allow for offline competitive play? E.G., my brother and I want to play against each other without spend a billion dollars on cards. Would buying this game for $5 and playing each other through it be possible?

  • lol ass hat...

  • Really great review!!

A lot of information and no bullshit.

No reviewer wants to say how many cards your getting within this game though, why? lol

  • So is there a full deck editor now?

  • I love Magic - usually playing with Angels and burning combos - as for this game i too would like a fully custom deck editor - let me mix all the cards i want into the deck if i have those cards unlocked. I have a place i can play draft tourneys but usually have to sleep during them cause of my work schedule >.<

  • SHANDALAR PWNS THIS GAME!!!!

  • Nice review. Been waiting for a game like this since the old Shandalar MTG game for PC. Now if I could only get Steam to work, so I can buy this damn thing.

  • Complain about the music then use it as the background for your video? Errr.

  • Fucking Magic Card Nerds, I thought this was a cool game

  • u play red all u need is land+inst dmg spell+little defenders(if they let u customize)just toss out all ur dmg spells on target player ignoring what its creatures are doing to u really early cus u end game early cus ur spell dont stand around like ur opponent monster next turn. cheap as hell.

if ur black u just want night hawks (yea pice of shit only cost 3 lands, 2/3+lifelink+flying+deathtouch). facing platinum angel? toss in some "hideous end"/"feast of blood"

  • dont know about actual game but this game DOES NOT REQUIRE STRATEGY if you could just build your own deck sadly prolly why the creator tried to "balance" by mixing good cards with bad. red mages they dont even need monster card in their deck. even blue mages wont be able to counter all red mages's instant damages if his deck is just all instant damages and lands. (yes stupidly countering a spell cost more than spell itself, so blue mages why not just use the spell instead of countering?)

  • 1st no customizing deck suiting your own "personal" taste was the biggest mistake. i know right? any card (video games) i have played always have a customization. just like the vid say you are stuck with some shitty card (if it weren't for "do not eat the cards" comment) and when you unlock a good card you cannot add it to other decks use the same lands.

second problem balancing, no customization=blue mages deck(or anyone who uses blue lands) SUCKS. if you are blue fan yea bitch ur deck sucks!

  • hey great review on the game!

i noticed you made this a year ago which is how long ive had this game as well

and I am still amazed by what an amazing game this is for magic fans or just people who want to try something new

I'm actually about to buy all the dlcs now and im really excited to boost them up and start winning some online matches lol

  • An excellent review I must say! Thank you!

  • I got a few questions:

1.How can I use the mana I want to use when I cast a spell? It always select mana randomly.

2.Will there ever be a DLC which allows you to build your own decks?

3.How many decks does the 360 version have? The PS3 version has 17 decks.

  • looks like a good game but i still find Yu-Gi-Oh the best card game ever.has alot of collectiable cars and its very original and involves much strategy and has much posibilities.

  • For beginers ONLY. You CAN'T modify and create your own decklists which Magic is all about ! Sideboard is only to add cards, NOT switch which is bullshit ! You cant choose which lands you want to TAP FOR MANA - computer does all the job, often which cause you to loose. GOOD GAME ONLY FOR BEGGINERS !

  • MY only question is:

On Steam you can BUy Deck Unlocks, are those special decks you have to buy, or are those decks unlocked normally through campaign and are just for the unpatient people there to buy?

  • any 11 yr old call u an asshat lol

  • I love the game, and the challenge modes especially, some of them really make you go nuts! However, the deck management option is terrible. How am I supposed to create decks if I can't remove stuff I don't want? Premade decks are boring. Also I have no idea how to activate the LAN option in the game, it is kind of irritating. Good review, good game.

  • @Chimpalimp1001 do you know if you have to unlock every card in every deck to "100% complete" even the expansion decks?

  • Do you have to buy some of the cards? like in Magic the gathering online?

  • Im new to magic a friend got me into it and i love it. I was a loyal yu gi oh player but now that Iv played magic. Yu gi oh's for kids

  • anyone that wants to buy this game its on sale on XBLA its only 400 microsoft points right now!!!

  • Grip over MTGonline ???? What are you talking about? Believe me, they have a grip all right, but not over anything digital related.

BTW the Giant Growthing the Raging Gobling was hilarious, nice review.

  • So... You can't edit your own deck?... Can you attain multi-coloured cards (eg: from the ravnica block?)

  • "I'm not going to giant growth it, I promise." Haha!

  • can i freely build my own decks in this game? and play online with them?

  • PC version its so smooth, A very sloppy port from console. Online doesnt work, lots of bugs.

Wizard need to get theirs ass together and give us an update -_-

I really hope they make a deck editor, that would be sick.

  • Avoid the videogame and play the real thing.

  • It is not possible to remove the old cards of a deck? Lame, I thought to buy it but now I really don't feel like doing that. I mean, I understand that there is no free deck building system as they want you to pay fore Magic online or buy the cards but that really is weird.

  • lol... asshat

  • i used. to love playing magic when i was 11 with my brother. then i got bored and lost interest and sold all my cards for $50 (not kidding, some obese guy with greasy hands and a hobo beard jumped on the offer) now i caught interest again, but im not gonna have a shitload of cards again, so i got this game, it is perfect.

also how did u change ur avatar? sometimes ur a human and then ud change to a lava guy..? my avatar stays the same

  • Excellent game. One of the best made if not the best made card game I've ever played. The AI is very smart and the actual game mechanics and variety is just brilliant.

  • Ive just started playing magic and I have a PS3, so this looks like its right up my alley. Theres a game shop by where i live that has FNM and tournaments and shit, but i havent been yet. i think ill play this for a month or so before i go for the first time so im not a complete and utter noob.

  • @luchador1764 you should look p how to do a draft tournament. They're super fun and it basically putseveryone on an even playing field. FNM tourneys are people with crazy expensive competitive decks, but drafts area great way to start once you learn.

  • @luchador1764 you should look p how to do a draft tournament. They're super fun and it basically puts everyone on an even playing field. FNM tourneys are people with crazy expensive competitive decks, but drafts area great way to start once you learn.

  • @luchador1764 tip: you will still be a complete and utter noob and will still come out last in the tournament.

  • I got this on the PC, and it isn't letting me use it online... It always just says ERROR!

  • Does anyone know if they updated the deck editor?

  • Wow. This looks awesome. I need to work on getting a 360 again. Damn red rings of death!!! (shaking fist at sky)

  • aaaa I want thas on my computer ! :D whreelye nice in a tournament and all .. but that it's amazing :P

  • I ordered this game. Coming soon. Cant wait havent played magic in over 8 years :O

Went through my (real) decks today for nostalgia. Cant wait to play this game. Can anyone tell me if they put a more extensive deck editor in the expacks for this game?

I bought the pc version btw.

  • @childofbodom185

ya it will I have one it it taught me pretty well

  • Nice review

Haven't played MTG in soo long, it's a shame about the lack of a better deck editor but I'll prbly get it anyway

  • Great review, did a complete deck editor come out with one of the expansiens, or is it still the same system as shown in the video?

  • Nice review. One thing though: Mtg Battlegrounds actually looks a lot better than the pixelthing you showed and is a great game for it's time.

Only problem there is that it's not magic. It uses the creatures and some mechanics from magic but you're playing a different game.

  • I've gotta say, the creators of this game really know how to turn people into serial killers.

  • Can u play online PC mode ?

  • Is anyone else stoked about the new tcg coming out called MEGA tcg?

It is the sickest game ever! all the cards are song names like Stairway to heaven, Enter Sandman, etc. plus it is going to have major tournaments all across the US with $10,000 cash prizes for the winners.

They have some pre-release cards for sale already

go to google and type in:

    enter sandman trading card

should be the 2nd search result

  • great Review mate!

I thought this game had a hard learning curve but I learned to play it in like 5mins yesterday and I dominated my friend with my other friend's deck (white/blue). I'm thinking of getting this game

I had some yugioh experience of course but this game has quite more freedom though.

  • this is great to learn how to play tihs game. i love it

  • plz plz plz help me i bot this (long tem magic fan) but when i choose my creature to attack i dont know how to sellect it to attack a enemy creature it attomatically chooses to hit the enemy player plz help

  • @xblizkx You cannot target individual creatures with your own creatures, they can only attack the player. It is up to the defending player to decide whether or not to block with his creatures.

  • How do you get cards in the game, do you have to have the card in real life?

  • Are they going to be making a version for macs? If so, anyone know how soon

  • It actually sucks, Card limitations, no good sets, decks come preconstructed animation is cheesy at best,. Im sticking with the Magic Online for card choice, Shandalar for Effects and role play, and Battlemage for PS1 for all out battle Graphics,. This was the worst version of magic they could have released and im very disappointed in wizards,.

  • Hello, do people still play this online? ive been playing magic for a while now and this seems like a pretty cool game to play once in a while, only thing still keeping me from buying is the limited dec customisation, and well, online play, if its stil active?

    Thanks,

    Nivek

  • Nice review. I was hoping for a full deck editor with the game but too bad. Tried MTGO and it was cool, but hate buying virtual cards with real money...

  • I dont like how this game uses set decks. They should let you construct your own deck. 90% of the fun/strategy is in creating your own deck and using the right cards, while with preset decks you simply do with what the devs give you, and often while playing online you will run into someone with the exact same setup as you. Gets boring after a while.

  • the deck editor is a joke and it degrades the game into nothing more than a beuitful game of yatzee.

  • "I'm not gonna Giant Growth it. I promise."

haha, spending mana for card disadvantage and damage to oneself isn't a good idea indeed, even if they give you 30 seconds to think about it.

  • ye im gonna wait for a game with an actual deck editor... thats what i enjoy most about magic cards making the decks and try 'em out.

  • The music in this game is pretty fucking horrible. Straight from a porn flick.

  • On the pc can u tweak with the console commands? and that is stupid how u cannot edit the deck better

  • I noted you state "unlocking cards adds more land cards"...i think. I started unlocking mass cards once I got some wins. But now sometimes I'll go eight turns and get nothing but mana/land. Its really annoying. Usually ends up with a rage "return to windows"

  • is this game on ps3?

  • Love MtG, but complete fail fail fail without a proper deck editor, making decks are half the fun! Being forced to use huge decks, no one would use that in real life, just sucks. Hope they fix it soon.

  • @nofreedomofspeech probably not as that would mean this game would take business away from their MTG:O game.

  • Just brought this game for PC :)

  • Are there any planeswalker card in the game?

  • Cant his game be played online against other people? Or only single player?

  • I was a huge fun of Magic and i havent play the last 5 years!! I am sooo happy that i have preorder it from Steam :)

2 more days and it's time to draw cards once more ^^

    Thanks for the review!

  • give me deck editor :O

  • Ahahahah I have purchace de game in steam but I can play only on 15/06/10...

  • That old PC game is the shit. Don't knock it unless you've played it. And if you've played, feel free to knock it.

  • Nice review, I am definitely going to be getting this on the pc. (Only two more days!)

For someone who has been playing Magic for a few years now, is it still fun? I could see it getting boring with the same decks.

  • @ATacticalWaffle, I'd say it retains its fun pretty well. The first time I played through I used the green deck and unlocked all the cards for that. I stopped playing for a bit, but when I came back there were all of the other decks to try out. And with the expansions, you won't get bored of this game too quick.

  • @stevwillz311 and then there's multiplayer

  • Nice review :)

  • how many different cards are in the game? only the 10th edition?

  • GREAT vid. You are answering all questions a potential buyer can have in 6 minutes :D

  • asshat. :)

  • If you can't edit the decks, then the game is worthless. Thank you for the review; it saved me ten dollars.

  • Great review... you convinced me!

  • Pre-ordering on pc also gets you a free promo real life foil nissa revane. You get the code when the game actually releases.

  • @hanslee1000 REALLY?!? Hate to use this over used internet phrase. But link or it didn't happen. I found nothing about getting a Foil Nissa.

  • @ATacticalWaffle Again, from Elaine Chase:

    Quote:

For clarity: Buy DotP during the presale period from Steam PRIOR to the launch on June 15 and you will be eligable for the promo card. #mtg

So, it's on sale June 15th.

    EDIT:

    And the followup:

    Quote:

...But you won't get your code until you actually get the game on June 15! #mtg

    Post on MTG Salvation forums.

  • Hey, just wanted to say thanks to anybody who watched the review and anybody who left comments. You've inspired me to get back into reviewing. Look out later this month for my next one. Thanks again!

  • very nice review I just pre-ordered this game on steam but wasnt sure whether the game would measure up to expectations set by the card game itself. Thanks a bunch now I just have to be patient:P

  • is there a big variety in the cards from the game into this?

  • This review just made me want this game so much my only problem is the deck editor that could be game breaking for me since the 1st thing i do when i get a new deck is toss out some cards and changing it to suit my play style hope fully the pc version will have a full editor. Great review by the way

  • 80 card deck, fail. Would have been perfect if you could make your own deck.

  • lmao about the halo reference and being called an asshat. That made me chuckle. :D

  • Very good review...keep the good work mate.

  • Good video, much information and now I think we may see each other ingame :-)

  • What? you can't remove cards from a deck and make ya own custom one? thats not cool. And tbh I think MTG 3 is better in that respect despite its less graphical effect.

  • Can't wait till this comes to Steam , for PC =)

  • @razno212

    agree ^^

  • @razno212 its there for 9.99 jsut not out yest, its called a preorder. you get it and the first expansion comes free if you get it now
