i would like to make a correction, 4219 is still a GP40PH-2A, numbering doesnt have anything to do with it. On the cab it clearly says GP40PH-2, but 4200-4218 is says GP40PH-2B. And also there are only 4 in NJT + 5 in Metro North 4138, 4139, 4141, 4142, and all of MNRRs 4900-4905
I have learned a lot since this video was put up, and when this was made, I will honestly admit, I was STUPID! But, you are right, 4219 does say "GP40PH-2" under the cab, but, wasn't it sent to CR for rebuild? I know there are only 9 GP40FH-2's left, on NJT, remember, AMT has some too...
If you look at the video I took, the video was taken on 11-12-07 before they were sold or scrapped. I wish they sold these to MBTA. They would've looked great in that paint scheme. :( Still, nice tribute. :)
I have seen 4142, the primier GP40FH-2 on the NJCL. I have only been to the NJCL once, so I have no clue what you're line is like, maybe some CAT's grace your rails.
By the way, I just wanted to let you know that I can't stop watching this video! How the heck did this get a 4.5* rating? I mean, it should be promoted in some way. The least would be to get a 5* rating. Anyway, SUPERB VIDEO!!!!!!!! LONG LIVE THE GEEPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To fleecejackets: I'm almost 100% sure you'll get a geep. It will probably be a GP40PH-2B, but you also might get an F40, or if you're lucky, a GP40PH-2A. We almost never get a P40 over here. Happy Birthday by the way. I hope you get a geep.
Thanks! Just guessing a "mud-missle" is a PL42AC. Thanks for the comment! I rode behind/in front of GP40PH-2A 4149 on Saturday, that engine can push/pull! Probably much better than the "mud-missle" ever will! Thanks!
No problem! Well I think mud-missile is supposed to be for GE Genesis series... but I'm actually not sure. Nevermind my last comment...
New One:
Death to the Pig40s! EMD will live on!
lol
And seriously?! Dang you're lucky. I haven't been able to get on a train with one of them on it yet. Hahah yes I am sure !!!!
I'm going to the NJT Atlantic city line for my birthday.... I hope I get a Geep. I told my Dad if the train shows up with a P40 or a PL42AC we're waiting until we can board a geep one!
Dude, Geeps pull/push all the trains on this line. The P40's only do the ACES service. PL42AC? Here? Never had one (YES!!!!) though one would be a change. GP40PH-2B's are our workhorses, a GP40PH-2A is what I call "rare." Also, we had our first visitor in several years, an F40PH-2CAT (# 4124). You can't get a GP40PH-2A easily because there are only 5 (well, 4 (4219/4148 crashed & was rebuilt)) that exist!!!! What day is your birthday?
My God. By far one of the best videos on YouTube. Way to go. This will be favorited, rated, and posted on my channel right away. Like you said, long live the geeps. 5*.
I also liked the facts about the locos. I didn't know about some of them. I was wondering how many FH's were left, so thanks a lot.
Unfortunetly only 4 FH's are left. 4138, 4139 (Broken HEP), 4141, & 4142. Thanks! I wanted to make this educational and emotional at the same time while paying respect to four great locos! (well, 6 if you count the GP40PH-2M & FH-2M). Thanks!
4139 is in service, it has a broken HEP, so it's used to pull the "aqua train" which sprays solvents on the rails in the fall to clean the oils produced by falling leaves
In the film "Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen" starring Lindsay Lohan, there's a scene where she and her friend go on board a NJ Transit train (sorry, no shots of the engines) on their trip to New York City.
Well, if I had the money (which I proably never will) I would buy one example of every NJT geep! LONG LIVE THE GP40FH-2 and GP40PH-2!! ...Hold on, the CNJ was part of the B&O when the GP40P's were delivered so that means that one of the GP40PH-2's should go to the B&O museum in Baltimore. -Brandon
Oh yeah, the B&O also controled the Reading. Speaking of the B&O, I saw B&O 50 at St. Louis museum of trasportaion yeasterday, which is why I haven't been on Youtube all week.
Here we go.... Thanks! I will surely miss the GP40's I want to see a GP40PH-2 before they're retired, though, if you look closely, under 4210's cab, it says GP40PH-2, not PH-2B. Thanks! Long Live the NJT GP40's!
After the geeps leave, sadly, the F40's are next :(

They no longer use these locomotives on the Raritan Valley Line anymore right?
Skynetdefensesystems 1 year ago
Unfortunetly, yes. I do believe they keep a Geep or an F40 on as backup in case a "supercomputer" fails though.
amtrak60 1 year ago
How many are still in service you think?
sgprailfan 1 year ago
Well, GP40PH-2B: 20/20
GP40PH-2A:4/4
GP40FH-2:8/23 (excluding AMT's lease),
GP40PH-2: 12/12
That just about sums it up.

Yeah, AMT's got a few of these. Leased. NJT's storing all theirs, for now.

Cool!!! I caught GP40FH-2 #4143 on the Montclair track cleaning train!!!

Intresting, 4143 is in Quebec. Are you sure it wasn't 4142? 4141? 4139? Or 4138?

The F40 is more rare then the P40. A GP40PH-2A, well, 4145 & 4149 are here, as well as alot of GP40PH-2B's. Nothing else.

You saw GP40PH-2B's! I see them every time I go railfanning, those units still have some life left in them, mainly tht FH's & PH-2's are in danger.

One of these diesels was in the movie "Be Kind Rewind".

RS3-Check
RS2-We're working on it, I got an M420 today, (photo for the book) as well as a, I believe, a Harriman Car.
