They were also opposed to having any kind of oversight or regulation of Fannie/Freddie, causing this entire financial collapse, all so EVERYONE can be a homeowner even when they can't afford it or put no money down. Amendment 2 does one thing and one thig alone. It defines marriage. It does not prohibit the government or private companies form extending benefits to whoever they wish. The Florida Supreme Court ruled that Amendment 2 concerns the single suject of marriage and simply takes the existing state marriage law and and places it into the constitution having similar effect. See. Opinion to the attorny general, 926 So.2d.1229 (2006). Amendment 2 does nothing new.

The Defense of Marriage Act passed on 9/29/96 Its provisions are codified at 1 U.S.C. § 7 and 28 U.S.C. § 1738C with two effects:

No state (or other political subdivision within the United States) need treat a relationship between persons of the same sex as a marriage, even if the relationship is considered a marriage in another state.

The Federal Government may not treat same-sex relationships as marriages for any purpose, even if concluded or recognized by one of the states.

Sorry, gonna have to correct "rightdemocrat." The amendment says:

'"Inasmuch as marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman, no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized."'

By referring to legal unions that are treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent, that's a direct attack on Domestic Partnerships, Civil Unions, Holy Unions, and any other term that different States and denominations might use.

I am a Democrat and strongly support Amendment 2. Family values are not a partisan issue with grassroots voters. The vast majority of Florida residents oppose same sex marriage. A recent poll shows that 45 percent of registered Democrats in Florida support Amendment 2.

The amendment have no impact on domestic partnerships. Amendment 2 isn't about restricting rights but rather preserving the traditional family which is the basic building block of our society. Vote yes on 2 !

See, you've been lied to buddy, and this amendment has NOTHING to do with same sex marriage. Same sex marriage has been illegal in FL since the 70's.

This amendment DOES have an impact on domestic partnerships... and anything that isn't "marriage" but is treated as such (like civil unions and domestic partnerships- straight or gay).
