@Whateverintheworld yeah one of the best 1st 5/8ths in Rugby used too be a saying" Going ,Going >gone" if your from Utah my guess maybe your LDS( I think he was a RM his family are very active LDS
@VIV292 Yeah, I am LDS/Mormon. His name came up in a talk during General Conference of the Priesthood. Pretty cool. I went to New Zealand in August 2010. That country (New Zealand) is awesome. I look forward to returning. I only saw the north island though.
@Whateverintheworld General conference hahahah its been a while since I attended Church conference priesthood yeah some of his family lives in Australia in fact one of his sons married a member from my old ward years ago
fantastic try, Brian Williams. In the wet. Good try 4:59. . fantastic try from a Welsh boot, unbelievable! If tries were scored lole that today, np !!. But scores like that are either offside, too-prethought, or "kiwi". "Kiwi" is the notion that is given to tries which have been exclusively forward passes, or via foul play. God bless them they cannot play any other way,
yes, grant battys intercept in the waning moments of the 77 lions tour, 1st test in wellington. i was at the opposite side of the tryline when we on the stands just went nuts when we saw him run away....andy irvine, irish fullback, almost caught up with him though, but that intercept saved the test as it was very close and it looked like the lions were going to score a try to win the match...go batty go, those short legs saved the blacks...blacks won 3 of 4 on that Lions tour of 1977.great vid
You were there? I was at the northern end of the ground, too, and saw Batty's number 11 getting smaller as he ran away to score at the other end. After half time, we expected a lot of action at our end of the ground, but it never happened. Someone said afterwards that the game was played by two bad teams having an off day. Things got better in the remaining Tests.
you are correct and I knew that too but had it typed wrong...our rugby teams at that time all tried to emulate those great lions players, especially Phil bennet and ofcourse andy Irvine...he was always the most dangerous fullback when he joined the line ... my firstever allblacks game and it was against a great Lions team, although they lost 3 tests and one provincial game I think. and then also lost to Fiji on their way home...
Sid Going was my hero growing up and even today it's still easy to see why he was such a superb halfback. So strong on his feet, he simply played in the wrong era. Today's game would have suited him so much more or even rugby league for that matter.
i was at that final test in Auckland '71. Good game, but suddenly we weren't invincible any longer. The 71 Lions were just amazing though, and kiwi kids were imitating Barry John's kicking style in every school playground up and down the country.
I never ever saw non-all black rugby players get that kind of idolatry in NZ before, or since.
brian williams. all legends of the game.

Ian Kirkpatricks try against the lions is my fave non-welsh try of all time. Gotta love the All Blacks, mad bastards every single one of them!
