  • I am glad you are alive, it's your alieron rudder cordination that raised my eyebrows, but hell my great grandpa learned to fly by himself so if you can do it thats awesome, flying is a great gift only mastered by man for a short time.

    '

  • YAAAY.... I'm STILL ALIVE.... YAY - motherfuckers - eat THAT!

  • Did you knock over some ice fishing rods?

  • @toutnu Umm no.

  • ytou lack some basic flying skills and would be surpriseed if you are still alive

  • @4thgenpilot

I think for being the first time ever off of the ground I did okay..

When I watch this vid now I can clearly see some obvious mistakes.

What are some of the issues you see?

  • LOL @ The ending. I would have done the same. MOTHER F*CKER!!! WoOOOO

  • paul your a crazy ass dude.

  • unbe-fucking-lievable

  • "mother FUCKER!" hahaahah

  • Chain saw with wings...

  • The guy who said its not an ultralight because it has a 2 cylender motor has no clue..I own 5 aircraft, 3 FAR 103 legal ultralights all under 254 pounds all with 2 cylender motors..One has a Rotax 503 on it..I also own a Himax and a minimax..The minimax is right at 103 status the himax is an LSA and is such as its too heavy(320 pounds with a Rotax 503) and they carry more than 5 gal of fuel and the top speed is above the 103 limit..research b4 u post...WTG on the flight..

  • Like they say "Any landing you can walk away from is a good one"

  • one of my fav vids of all time you are the bomb

  • Cool video. + I LOLd at the end.. funny!!

  • Well, here is my 2 cents. This guy is like all of the young juviniles who ride those "crotch rocket motor bikes (do we really call them motorcycles?). First of all, the plane is not an "Ultralight"; the 2 cylinder engine takes it out of that category. (it would definitely be over 254 lbs empty). Secondly, is only a single ignition engine (not good), and last: I'll bet his parents are really proud of him; especially watching the video and hearing motherf%$#@r, two or three times - nice!

  • @mmichaeldonavon FAA regulation CFR §103.1 says on powered ultralights:

    (1) Weighs less than 254 pounds empty weight, excluding floats and safety devices which are intended for deployment in a potentially catastrophic situation;

    (2) Has a fuel capacity not exceeding 5 U.S. gallons;

    (3) Is not capable of more than 55 knots calibrated airspeed at full power in level flight; and

    (4) Has a power-off stall speed which does not exceed 24 knots calibrated airspeed.

    -Nada about # of cylinders

  • give him credit for some skills if he never flew anything else ,,,, but ,,,, how about wind ,,, power out ,,, a real runway ,,,, he should have had instruction ,, could have hurt or killed someone ,,,,

  • u got BALLS

  • As pilot myself, I find this very ard to believe...

  • ya i jus crow hopped before my first flyghts lol did some readin of the manul first tho lol :)

  • Wanna go fly then go fly, its how i learned how, studied the books flew the simulators and a flight with an instrucor in a 172. After that i went and got my own ultralight hopped in and bobs your uncle. people have a hard time finding me on the ground after that Wright brothers did it the same way, they had no clue what they were doing untill it happened. In todays modern age we have boundarys and laws set by americas nazi government that forbid everything and anything that lets people be free.

  • Some people have a good feel for flight, others need hours and hours of training and still couldn't fly as good as this guy. Don't be mad because you suck at flying. You probably can't drive your mini-van either! lol

  • Hah! Thanks for the ride Cap'n...

  • I bet thats exactly how Wright Brothers reacted to their first flight...with profanities and shit like that....Awesome!!!

  • Wow, you experience mirrors my own, except I never got the feeling "I don't belong up here". I also taught myself because the local instructor in Vegas was a fear-mongering moron that badmouthed everything he did not sell. I also learned to fly RC's first, which is WAY harder than flying the real thing. Then bought a CGS Hawk and taught myself to fly it. It was WAY easier than flying a model. Like you, I sold it to a "trained" moron, and he crashed it, totaling it, and lucky to be alive.

  • Dude... You kicked ass. congrats! Don't Tread! :)

  • Good landing, especially in a taildragger with no previous experience. Cool.

  • Though I most definately think it was smart to fly without training, I have to smile at the pure joy this guy felt on a pretty damn good landing. Hope he got training and is flying safely now. Fly safely my friend.

  • @rmv4285

Wow .... I'm missing a critical word in my post. Should have said it was most definately NOT smart to fly without training.

  • ok i understand where all you guys are coming from but you have to cut the guy a break. if the title did not say first time without training would you really be able to tell that he did not have training. looks to me like a had a pretty good handle of the aircraft.if they were so hard to fly then you would need a pilots license. thats just my 2 cents

  • how much does one of the hi max cost

  • Haha... Ah the ecstasty of flying as can be heard from 8:53 on.

  • I don't get it, 4,341 views and nobody comments on the fact that he flew through a flock of seagulls at minute 8:35 to 8:45.. seriously. You got a whole frozen lake and you head for the only flock of birds on the lake. Wow! you got lucky on that one. And we know what birds can do to a airplane.

  • He was already flaring or close to it and would have had to go around which is asking for a lot of situational awareness and aeronautical decision making for someone who had no idea what he was doing.

  • Most of us drive cars. When in a car, driving towards the birds is the only option.

  • Shit you have got balls man!

  • Fine its your right, but it impacts us all when such stunts go wrong. Thats the problem! Glad you survived !

  • its stupid stunts like flying without instruction that has hurt the ultralight industry so badly!

    Way to go numbskull!!

  • I understood the risks and exercised my right as an American citizen to do it.

    DONT TREAD ON ME!!

Seriously though I did it the one time and realized at 2500 feet I didnt belong there...

I sold the plane which turned out to be the worst thing I could have done to the industry... The people I sold it to are the numbskulls in this story...

  • So what's the max altitude on these things? I want to skydive.

  • 10,000 feet give or take.

problem is if you jump from it it wont land itself...

  • @paulvolio You are a numskull Bamasbulldogs was right, typical american better than the world, you had a great flight but next time when somthing goes wrong you wont have a fucken clue what to do. I fly RC planes and ultralights with 300plus hours and RC planes are nothing like the real ones toss pot. I just hope when not if you crash you dont hurt anyone on the ground or is that your right as an american citizen aswell. I wont tread on you but people at your grave might

  • @blacls Some of the all-time greatest pilots in the history of aviation flew their first flight(s) with no lessons... Bruce Bohannon set the World Record for fastest climb to 47,000ft in class C-1.b in his custom-built plane "The Flying Tiger" that he made with no college or engineering lessons. He started flying crop dusters at 15 with no flying experience or lessons. Some people just have aviation in their bones... Stop bashing the "Naturals".

  • @DPGuitarman I flew unassisted after 20mins on my first flight and the instructor only demonstrated from there on but I did the responsible thing and had someone with experience there in the case of trouble. Yes there are naturals who can fly, I will admit it theres actually nothing difficult about flying its knowing what to do when somthing goes wrong and noone is a natural at that, even test pilots crash. So I stick by my comment he is a numscull he is the reason why re avition gets bad reps

  • @blacls You're last statement is wrong... He is the reason why aviation gets good rep because he shows everyone how easy it is for basic flight. On the other hand; if he were to crash, then he would be the reason aviation gets bad rep. Everyone loves to see people who can solo with no lessons but not the ones who can't.

Ex) 1. If you solo with no lessons; You're a natural. 2. If you solo with no lessons and crash; You're a DUMB***.

Society holds everything to a double-standard

  • @DPGuitarman i agree with both you and blacis ,,, there is a lot of grey inbetween though ,,,, he has some skills ,,, whether he would have become a natural world class aviator is unknown ,,, there are a lot more stories of beginners not having enough instruction with dire results ,,,,

  • @paulvolio : The funny thing about this is, I actually agree with both of you!

However, I sure wish you'd kept your plane, hired an instructor and continue to enjoy it rather than sell it off. I used to own a Cherokee, got the training and all, got my license, but then met my then-to-be wife and that was the end of flying.

Eighteen years later, I wished I'd kept the plane and stayed single. Flying is a lot more fun than a now hostile wife. Flying is cheaper and less dangerous too!

  • @paulvolio

What's the epilouge on the mom that crashed? Did she survive? Why didn't she hold a course that took her out into the open?

  • @AugustusLarch

I called the next morning after the crash. I was told she got her shoe caught in the rudder pedals causing full deflection. I am guessing she concentrated too much on freeing her foot and not enough on flying the aircraft.

  • @paulvolio

That is horrifying. She is lucky she didn't die. Our instructors told us we had to wear shoes with laces actually laced up in flight school. I saw it as almost nitpicking back in the day. Now I see the value in it. It's a heck of a story.

  • He's just sad because he spent thousands on training and hates that you didnt have to. Congrats man and I hope your still flying. *****

  • oh, hmmm....... I dont like the fact that people doing such foolish things have caused major problems for the rest of us. And by the way, you can get training for around $1000 to fly ultralights. And I had a friend teach me for free...........

  • Sure u did.

  • aparently u dont know much about the cost or time it takes to train.

  • Anybody that teaches themself to fly has an idiot for an instructor.

  • Not true

An idiot can at least point out which way the wind is blowing...

  • Hang glider training!!? WTF good would that do? 3 axis control powered aircraft vs a weight shift glider!!

  • Please don't do it again. Your life is important and so the ability to walk. Take some hang gliding lessons and learn and feel about the air currents and turbulence. Enjoy!

  • respect ....

  • hello its been 4 months just woundering are still alive keep us posted lol

  • I am still alive I have yet to fly this plane again, but I did go for a trainiung flight in a citabria and the instructor was impressed with my abilities to fly his plane I just dont have the $ right now to do anything with it.

  • Nice!!! I did the same in a fisher 202. Never flew anything didnt have 1000s for training. Just watched and read about alot of flights. Just gotta have tha balls and nerves to try it, commit and go. Did you fell like gumby after you landed? 5 stars!!

  • I did it a month ago-I still feel like gumby!

this was the first time I have ever flown in a plane too!

  • @paulvolio you said this is the first time that you have flown in a plane? what do you mean? do you mean you were never a passenger in a plane either? wow, you have some incredible balls, and you were lucky, and good planning with the big take off and landing area. kept the plane above stall speed or to you it would be take off speed, wow you did a good job. but learning things you do not know will save your life. as to the guys screaming about hurting the industry, ah shut up

  • @Luminaring

'When I was about 8 or 9 years old I was a passenger on a commercial airliner...

That was my only previous aircraft flight.

I taught myself to fly rc planes first and I built a scale plane of my hi-max to get a reasonably close feel of what to expect.

I waited until the largest open area I could find froze over and picked my day. I just kept the airspeed reasonably high, I figured if I came in crossed up the wheels would slide on the ice instead of grab and flip the plane.

  • 1:26 so far watched and im expecting a screaming ghost 2 get me but still nothing yet...

  • Awesome job!!!!
