If we could all read the Spanish subtitles we'd see this was pure satire. The subtitles ask "Have I lost my mind?"

Obama confuses a public purpose with private choice. Speaking languages is a great benefit to the individual, but for public policy we NEED to be able to communicate in the dominant language. In the USA one doesn't NEED to learn Spanish unless one wants to, but we do NEED to learn English to participate as citizens. Mr. Obama knows this, but he's pandering to an Hispanic audience.

Anyone who feels that it is not important for your children to learn a foreign language is a first class idiot. My children will absolutely learn a foreign language in school. In this global economy, in this ever-shrinking world, children better have the resources necessary to communicate. Obama is 100% on the money.

And you do know there are 120 languages spoken in Europe. There are 47 spoken in Asia. So you best stay up late every night and study hard. Don't want you to make us look stupid should you visit another country.

I'm afraid you're the one who has missed the point. Obama said that the children of immigrants need to assimilate and learn English. He followed that up with, "But we should be teaching our kids Spanish, too." In my state, ALL children are taught a foreign language in school. And it is required. Apparently things are a little different where you come from? Do they at least teach English in your state?
