  • I like the idea of the emergent church, it is amissional church. But I will agree that their are a lot of emergent churches which are very liberal in their theology.

Their are evangelical emergant churches, but most seem to be very liberal. It has even come to a point where emergent churches are starting to call themselves the emerging church to remove themselves from the label of emergent, but there are still a few that are not liberal or new age.

  • Having studied and written on this movement, let me translate Gibb's emergentese into plaing English: "We have decided to believe what the present world does and act like they do in order to be liked by them."

  • Does the possibility exist that we may want to meet the world where they are in the current context of our culture, without diluting Christ's message? Most of the church in the west is not very effective in my opinion and just as business must change with the culture or become irrelevant, I say the church must change it's approach. Maybe it is time to change our delivery system not the message.

  • You must not have read much emergent literature. We must always contextualize. All Evangelicals want to do so. Emergents wish to conform to worldly beliefs and standards. That is quite different! Methods must change. The message should not! Shame on emergents for compromising essentials such as salvation by faith, blood atonement, sin, judgment, etc. etc. etc. If anyone wants to defend this censoring of the gospel I refuse to join in.

  • Toowoombus, if you wish to read a non-propaganda,neutral description of this nefarious and deceptive movement read the Wikipedia article about them. There are many Evangelical expose's about on the internet but the Wikipedia article is just a factual account that cuts through the emergent doublespeak.

  • Toowoombus, please read the books and articles in which these heretics spout their denials of sin and salvation. I have read these at length and they are shocking! You sound sophisticated defending a short youtube video that sounds innocent on its own. Believe me. These guys are not advocating the Evangelical contextualization youi speak of. Can the possibility exist that you will inform yourself before speaking on matters you are ignorant of?
