For all of you that think Brandon Curtis(keyboards, backing vocals) is some session musician or hired gun, get your facts straight. He was the head singer of The Secret Machines, a Dallas based group that was AWESOME. Why he joined Interpol, I don't know. This incarnation of Interpol is terrible. Check out the Secret Machines, they're great.
For all of those bitching about the keyboard player and how he doesn't fit with the music... Well don't you think that he is in Interpol now for a reason? Is not like he joined by himself without asking lol... Paul Banks GOT HIM IN the band and he's been told to sing those high notes.. So if you don't like the keyboard player go and tell Paul to kick him out LOL
Maybe the singer had the keyboard player do that, 'cause he din't want/couldn't/didn't feel like hitting those high notes. Nothing against him, but the shades the singer's sporting; maybe he's hung over or something. Just saying at the level of playing on Letterman, nothing is just 'happingstance,' everything's for a reason....please consider that
idk why everyone is bitchin about the keyboardist its not like any of you haters could sound of even have the balls to sing like he did. by the way half o you are fake fucking fans who found interpol either through gutiar hero or some other gay way
Here's a tip for beginners. Don't tune your own guitar. Just ask the guy at the guitar shop after you buy the strings to tune it for you. You can't do it. You don't have the hands to. Nothing to be ashamed about. Just don't ask for a lolly pop.
They say that people who can't do, criticize. I guess that's why there are so many people hating on Brandon Curtis....yet he tours as a stand in with Interpol, has his own band, The Secret Machines, and David Bowie & Bono are close personal friends. Haters, get a life or get a talent instead of sitting around making fun of people who are actually living their dreams. I guess you should be jealous. I'm jealous I haven't met him yet.
I try not to bait the morons who populate this site, but this time I can't resist. To all those bashing the keyboardist: You are all dumb. D-U-M-B. Ya know, like the Ramones song? The keys man is none other than the righteous Brandon Curtis from the Secret Machines. His voice really jibes with Paul's. All those who say nay are truly tone-deaf goons -- no doubt the sort of dopes who ruin Interpol's shows. Toodles, meatheads!
you guys are so fucking gay, if anyone should be called an asshole its the sound guy for putting the keyboardists vocals too loud. now shut the fuck up . pussies.
The keyboardist isnt that bad.. you guys schould stop complaining. Yes, Paul is way better but still. But yeah, i think Daniel is a better vocalist than the keyboardist, atleast from what i heard on PDA, so they schould have used him, but still the keyboardist isnt that bad!
man you guys need to chill... i'm sure paul is more than satisfied with the vocal delivery by the keyboardist, as i am. he's a good addition to the band. when i saw them they did scale him back a bit, which is fine. whatever they wanna do i'm fine with.
@musethemusclemuseum though i love your name(i love muse and that song) your comment is just outrageously ridiculous. I cant believe youre judging a keyboardist because he is sitting, there are PLENTY of keyboardists that sit down. maybe he couldnt bend down, or they didnt have high stands for the keyboard, who knows, but id rethink that comment if i were u
I think the band learned from their mistake (keyboardist vocals), I saw them live last sunday and he totally didn't bother me so they put him back a notch ;)
@17081989 I cried when he left, I was so upset too when he said that he hated playing bass and that it wasn't his instrument of choice. And he was one of the few bassists that inspired me to play. Such a shame :(.
Said keyboardist is Brandon Curtis of The Secret Machines. His voice sounds ok on their studio stuff but if you've ever seen them live you realize the guy can't hold a note. Bad move Paul.
Guys, you don't seem to understand. Let me preface this by saying Interpol is my favorite band and I love them to death. But. Paul Banks is not a great singer. He sounds awesome and fits the music perfectly, but there was no way he was EVER going to hit "Keep us away" live, the same way as on the album. The only way to make it sound comparable was to have a second singer who CAN hit the note, which the keyboard player can. Yes, his voice doesn't mix well, but without it, it would sound worse.
... Interpol fans annoy me. I remember the good ol times of TOTBL before the teenage little girl fandom. Interpol 1 great record 1 one ok record 2 records that i would wipe my ass with.
I think Brandon doing backup vocals adds dimension to the song. Keep up the good work guys. Hey Sam, you look great and are stil the best at beatin those skins.
I love the song, and the guys look cool, except for the keyboardist, idk, i dont like him... and he doesnt sing good... I would like them to change him... :) but still, so good to see them back, with a nice song
@surrealismo0muerte it isn't the keyboardist's fault that Paul can't sind the chorus by himself. The band just needs him to sing that high note that Paul can't seem to reach during live preformances. You guys should give him more credit, he is just doing his part :/
@surrealismo0muerte I understand what you're saying, but this more comes down to a problem with the mixing of the tracks. It would sound a lot better if the engineer just turned down the back up vocals a bit.
Well Mr Pajo is going to add darker music to this guys. I really like this song and lights. Interpol fans don't have to regret that they don't sound like in their old albums, music is about evolution and bands have to have new experiences. I love this band!!
This album leaked and it's much better than Our Love To Admire (which doesn't say much)...but seriously.. WTF happened to these guys? They'll never get close to TOTBL again. Oh, and Banks looks like a real douche here. Sorry, he does.
Ummm... I don't think that keyboardist understands what Interpol is all about, his voice doesn't fit with the music... and by the way Paul shakes his head at 2:51, I'd think he agrees with me.
@DrCommenter I'd rather say he shakes his head 'cause they've been recording such shit for last few years. Interpol's funeral took place right after recording the second album. Just swallow that bitter pill and don't waste your time.
Enlighten us, what is Interpol all about? I expect a really intelligent reply from one as astute as you. Also, tha tis why Paul shakes his head at 2:51, I hope you are being facetious.

Considering hes a sessions player, it would be the guys in interpol that hired him and told him how to do things in rehearsal. He is singing in that high voice as he has been told to do so.
