what if you are not given length to find perimeter, but told that width is 5 times as long as length

Then we could express the dimensions in terms of a variable, like x.

The length would be x and the width would be five times that, or 5x.

Take two times each of those and add them to get the perimeter.

P = 2(x) + 2(5x)

Finally, we could simplify that to get: P = 12x
