  • This shows how great galdiators was Saturdays are so boring now

  • 0:49. she was the best!!! Panther rocked

  • Comment removed

  • @xweetokfairy

    You really dont know.

  • As sad as this was, it was overdue, the show had become boring, predictable and essentially just a big pantomime, and the new events were ridiculous. Gladiators ran it's course and couldn't really complain when it ended.

  • is that eunice @ 1:49?

  • I remember this. I cried when Gladiators finished for good. It was a real shame it had to end. I hope ITV1 brings it back soon. I am missing them all. I wonder what they are all up to now? I wonder what John Anderson and the cheerleaders G-Force are up to these days? I wasn't the only one who cried when this ended my Grandad and my Nanna cried too when this ended. I love Wolf's speech it was so sweet of him to say I would like to say goodbye to all my fans bless him. RIP UK Gladiators.

  • omg, commentator interrupted emotional moment! :O

well the bit after the commentator was truly tear-jerking. The shot of the helmet on the floor and wolf's farewell speech, ending with the lights going out :'(

    AWOOOGA!!!

  • Shame it had to end..

  • I remember I met Wolf once when he turned our local shopping centres Xmas lights on and I stood at the front and asked him a question about his fav drink, he replied blood and then a few minutes later he came back and said it was wine!!! Ha! Ha! He scared the life out of me though when he was there even though I liked him but was a child then so yes he was tall and scary but a gentle man! Mike still remember that!!! Does he I wonder? Still remember his full name Michael van wyk!

  • the clip made me cry. Cant believe it was 10 years ago.

Brings back memories of the original gladiators.

    There was some good memories.

Miss Jet, lightning and the wolfman

  • that end wolf interview makes me soooooo emotional :(

  • Who is that Gladiator who appears at the end?

  • @headphone355 wolf

  • Had a good old cry when I first saw this, 10 years ago now, wow

  • 10 years already, can't believe it

  • it's 10 years today. time just goes by like that!

  • no jeremy gussgot

  • I love the old gladiators. It's a classic. The final montage is awesome. I love it.

  • The classical piece is Cavalleria Rusticana - Intermezzo by Pietro Mascagni.

  • hawoogah!! john really did come up with that on the spot :P

  • wolf and vulcan and lighting were the bests but wolf was the funnyest

  • gladiators was the bestttt.. but it was actually veryy good up to 1996-1997 were there was the original gladiators.. but still the new gladiatorss has already been axed after only 2 years .. SHOCKING!!

  • Why was this axed? Brad

  • "Here we go. This is the end. 8 years, I've been coming to this arena. 8 years, I've been tryin' my best. And now it's all over. Well, I've enjoyed it. It's been a great time. I'd like to say good-bye to all my fans."

    Great closing lines.

  • Wolf's back now though. Great to see he's still earning.

  • what a show! a*

  • it was ashame that it ended but who knew back then that the show would return in 2008 on sky one with new gladiators, new hosts and a new commentator

But the new series isn't the same andI really miss seeing some of the old glads like zodiac and the orignial panther

  • you know their's an upcoming legends episode with all the classics

  • 2:06, i didn't know john anderson was a great dancer.

  • i can't believe gladiators ended, it's the best show on tv. it was really sad watching this again after so long.

  • I wonder what's become of the National Indoor Arena now.

  • Whats That Song called? The song after "I Get Knocked Down"?

  • No idea, but the one you're mentioning is actually chumbawumba: tubthumping.

  • The song after 'I Get Knocked Down' is called 'Real Good Time' by Alda ^^^

  • I really really do miss the old gladiators. Can't even watch the new one since I don't have Sky TV.

  • im telling you,if you watch the new one u feel sik that's how bad it is. This gladiators is just the BEST, NOTHING COULD EVER EVER MATCH UP TO IT. watching this final montage genuinely makes you feel sad.

  • your not missing much, its nothing compared to this one

  • Good.. its shit, the new gladiators have no personality and are major wannabes.

  • the new gladiators has nothing on the good classic one when the gladiators engaged the public and where having a great laugh. I met cobra at my primary school and he was sucha lovely man! I hate the way oblivion is trying to be like wolf its nattt guna happen :P im just watchin it on challenge n enjoying good aul fash awwoooogggaaa! haha

  • the new gladiators will be great if the get the nia next year and production effeorts improve - and the audio. There were some boring episodes of the old glads but yeh on the whole it was better. they need new and some more of the old events like pendulum altaspheres skytrack danger zone suspension bridge swingshot etc put in and a larger hang tough!!!

  • why cant they listen to what everyone is saying lol

  • It was truly the end of an era. I'm glad they brought it back. But it will never have any even close to the original.

  • what is that classic musical piece called

  • That wolf speech at the end was really sad lol

I havn't botherd watching the new one cos it's never gonna be as great as this

I'll stick to challenge and virgin1

  • you should -there are irritating parts about it but its still enjoyable to watch especially towards the end and eliminator - it was ver rushed this series though. If it gets enough ratings and series 2 gets the nia and improvemnts are made i think it could be on a similar level to the old one. Just give a chance for the next 2 series' and then if it doesn't well... yeh u can say it didnt ahve a thing on the old one lol.

  • It just made me cry. I used to watch this show live every week. I was in the Gladiators fanclub and would get to go backstage and my first crush (first love) was Wolf...he even gave me a job walking his dogs whilst he lived in Bham! Mike...I love ya!

Havent watched the new ones yet but have DL's the legends return...just need some time to watch it now!!!

  • Why oh why did they ever stop this show :(...

Booo, the new one isn't a patch on the old one!

  • They stoped it because ratings have dropped.

  • Because of the ratings. THey were so low they decided to cut it.

  • I remebered crying when this was first shown and now still bring a lump to my throat. Glad the new Gladiators is back and yes I watch it but the original can't be beaten.

  • The return wont be as good as the original, I'm mainly just saying that because I have 7 year olds memories of the whole thing, and it was epic.

  • won't be good as it won't have the real gladiators, the original gladiators.

  • The classical piece playing through this reminds me so much of the BGM track "Song of Seperation" from the final episode of Fullmetal Alchemist. It just sounds similar in a few ways...

It was a shame that LWT axed the show, but i'm looking forward to Sky One's revival :D

    Thanks for sharing this clip!

  • Amen to that.

  • Who was Clayton Parker?!

  • the editor of gladiaitors!!

  • "It's not goodnight but farewell"

One of the saddest moments ever. ANd I am almost crying watching this eight years after the event!

  • Its coming back now though so cheer up =D

  • I remember watching this and thinking my saturday night tv has ended for good.

  • bother i have only got sky three

  • Its comin back too the uk, WHOOPA!

  • Its not farewell its "we're going on holiday!"

  • the gladiators is bk but on sky y??????????????? can't ITV bring back som glory 2 r screens i guess not guess its bk 2 watchin people fall over on ice wot great fun but y am i suprised this country is so fuckin shit

  • Because times have changed on ITV.

ITV are now afraid of spending lots of money.

Thats why they have gone thru such cost-cutting measures as shutting down CITV on weekday afternoons

  • In other words ITV are loosing money and need to think of something that will bring them lots of pounds;,;..,., becuase gladiators aint been on for a while, they fear people wont be as bothered just like terminator 3

  • In other words ITV are loosing money and need to think of something that will bring them lots of pounds;,;..,., becuase gladiators aint been on for a while, they fear people wont be as bothered just like terminator 3

  • while i was hoping that you included the bit with wolf at the end. I hadn't scene that bit since it was on tv, remember it though, as soon as it finished i knocked at a mates and played football in the snow with him. Hope wolf has a part in the new series as a host or something.

  • Unfortunately Wolf returning even as a host seems unlikely as apparently he's married with 4 kids in New Zealand and is running an indoor playgroup or daycare or something. Heh. Bit of a change for him from this I guess...

  • Ian Wright is presenting

  • I was replying to someone elses comment about how they wished Wolf would come back...

  • Isn't there rumours that SImon Cowell is bringing a different Gladiators back 2 ITV 1?

  • yes it is true

  • simon cowell is involved???

    FUCK, I HATE THAT PRICK!

  • not to ITV - Sky one instead!

and Simon Cowell is NOT the kind of person to present a show like Gladiators.

  • I didn't say simon would present it, but he would have a hand in the production side.

Simon is a closet homo who takes advantage of immature fools hunger for fame, everything on x factor / american idol is pre-planned and fake. He loves money.

  • I really hate ITV, during the past 10 years they have axed so many great shows. Saturday night entertainment is dead now. No wonder no one stays in on a saturday night now. They axe everything that is good and keep all the crap stuff. This was one of my favourite saturday night shows.

  • CITV used to be where ITV really used to show off their programme-making skills.

Fun House was the best CITV show ever made!

  • I agree

  • What was the reason this great show came to an end anyway? Was there a decline in ratings?

  • yes it was a decline in ratings across all shows in general thanks to the satellite explosion

  • I don't think it was that, remember this is 2000 and so the majority of viewers were still watching the main four (or five in some parts of the country) channels.

I think it may be that Gladiators looked dated by 2000 and so viewers were switching over to BBC1.

The same thing happened for Big Break over on BBC1 - ITVs Pop Idol was placed against it in 2002 and Big Break's ratings just went down and down.

  • i couldnt believe it when this got axed, this show had literally everything!!!some of the shite thats on there now is abysmall. Get this back on!!!!

  • they are havent you seen sky one is lanning to reignite the program with ian wright presenting

  • I love gladiators, with Jet and Vogue being my favourites. However WHY IS GLADIATORS COMING BACK TO SKY AND NOT ITV like it used to be. A lot of people, including myself, dont have sky and therefore can't watch it. This sucks big time!!!!

  • Because ITV don't care about their viewers

  • Because ITV don't care about their viewers and why should they?

They don't recieve a penny from us and so can do whatever the fuck they like.

  • I think itv can,t afford it but id prefer it if it was on itv

  • Yes UK Gladiators is coming back to Sky One!

  • in May I believe !. with the new gladiators revealed in March. One to keep an eye out for.

  • the sun newspaper said its comming back to sky and there goin to have some of the same gladiators agian so its commin back

  • Yeah I just read that! Exciting stuff! I want to go on that show, always wanted to when i was younger! lol

  • 1st January 2000 this was broadcasted - this show ran for 8 years - and today its 1st January 2008 - its now been another 8 years since the show ended.

  • i think there bout to make a revival if its a hit in USA and australia.. i fink its gd that its over water and fires involved..more tense i think.. cus be cheesy but clips luk gd.. if they made it agen in UK i wud imagine they wud do it with water aswell.. no1 noes

  • FTN is no longer on freeview, and aint got sky so cant see it on challenge so I can't watch it any more :-(

  • Gladiators is on virgin 1 which replaced FTN I think its on at weekends at 8am

  • yeah thats right but on freeview virgin one doesnt air till 6pm so no more gladiators :-(

  • I only realised that after i'd posted the comment, sorry. At least American Gladiators and Austrailian Gladiators is coming back so hopefully ITV might bring back Gladiators in the UK.

  • Yeah I remember the American series and it was big but, low ratings and the Galdiators leaving and do other things. I hear they was going do a 8th season but, never did cause of low ratings and other stuff. I think the show might make a come back but who knows at this point.

  • THINK AGAIN! because the 8th season of american gladiators is showing next year on NBC! so is the australian version on Seven Network. But the big question for me is... 'If USA and Australia revived their versions...why didn't ITV revive the UK version too?'

  • Because they don't want to.

They are afraid of making expensive programmes nowadays and their current saturday night lineup always attracts the biggest viewing figures of all the Saturday night programmes on terrestrial TV.

So they won't make it because they are afraid that he revival would have poor ratings.

  • you could really feel the emotion there a classy end to a great show

  • gladiators....10th october 1992-1st january 2000,

r.i.p, this is part of my childhood and i too was proboly blubbing when it finished!!!!

  • wat channel was it shown

  • ITV

  • I loved this show, I grew up watching it.

  • i remember that i cried when it ended the end of an era

  • i cried when it ended, when i was 8

  • this show was too good. thank god for challenge and ftn

  • I want Cobra to do me raw :/

  • I can't believe that was the end of gladiators. A sad time to watch the final montage. I like Mike Myers when he said 'Wolf, give me a five' then he dropped. That was 1992. That was amazing. I love it and it's really cool. Both funny and sad. It comes to the end of it. Absoultely awesome.

  • it is so upsetting

  • That was beautiful, as being a kid at the time it's one of the best thing's that iv'e ever watched today

  • I'm so sad that gladiators has ended!

  • That was beautiful, I about broke down into tears. The concept of Gladiators in general, doesn't matter what country it was, was something that will be remembered for that era. I wish that American Gladiators could've gotten a send-off like that.

  • Wow, thanks. That made me cry when I watched that Final Show back on Jan 1 2000 and still to this day brings a tear to my eye! Gladiators was such a fantastic show for its era and I grew up with it! My favourite clip was seeing the Powerball pitch being rolled up for the last time!

The only shame is that we didn't get more clips from the best years - 1994 and 1995! But how quick this series was thrown together, its most likely that they put the footage in they found first!
