i never caught many rock bass i caught one in the back wash of a lake in pa it was 15 inch long i through it back because i didnt know the avg size of them. i really regret throwing that fish back i wish it was on my wall
Caught my first one of these today in a small lake in Michigan. Had to google search to see what he was. Thought i had caught the first bluegill/bass hybrid. Lol
i just caught a 2 lb 3 ounce rock bass yesterday..i caught a 7lb smallie the same day. it was awesome and i am getting a replica mount of both of them now. i caught them in ontario and i am from mississippi so i figured replicas would be a better route.
I think this video has 9 dislikes not only cuz the fisherman used the word "trophy" to describe his fish, but also because he's black. I'm sure you'll argue it was only cuz he thought he had a trophy fish and the fact he's black had nothing to do with it. Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Bull. Shit.
That is about the regular size we catch up here, but that is nice!!! I caught a 19 incher when we went camping. I couldn't believe my eyes!!!! But, great catch, that is indeed great size!!!!
When I was a boy, rock bass were yellow-ish,with black spots, red eyes with yellow stripes around the pupils. Bu8lt like a bass, but were the size of a large blue gill.
I was fishing a local creek and i was nearly close to the Pennsylvania state record. a few ounces shy. this bass was about a foot long caught on a tender tube
Pretty good Rock bass ,man ,but i've seen bigger . lol The biggest one i caught was in Bluestone River in West Virginia , it was about 12 inches. I did watch an old friend of mine catch a 15 inch Rock bass in Bluestone River and he chopped it up and used it for Catfish bait . That was biggest Rock bass i have ever seen caught out of Bluestone River.
My Biggest Rock Bass came from an abandoned rock quarry in Trotwood, Ohio
it was 14 1/2" inches and weighed 2 1/2 lbs! scales were as big as my thumb nail.
I caught him on a Mepps Aguilla (Squirrel tail) witha brass blade. That was fun because the water was crystal clear and I got to watch him fight the whole time!
man you show so much ohio pride but i have never seen you fishing the maumee river you havent fished in ohio until you have fished the maumee river huge walleye and mass amounts of white bass this time of year i went fishing yesterday and caught about a 100 white bass in under 3 hours
@Fishnwithjoe half a pound at best. i love rock bass and that is a great rock bass ive caught a few like that and a little bigger. they dont get much weight to them cuz they dont get very big.
thats a monster of a rock bass .....damn....but ive cought bigger over here in so cal ....ive caught that was a pound and 1/4 ....it was freaking huge it was about 13 inches long to.....lol and i caught it on a 6 inch robo worm.... a great day
Well rock bass and large mouth bass are in the same family catergorize in the Sunfish Family. They in fact are really not real bass. True bass family includes Stripers and White bass.
Rock bass are one of those kinds of fish that are almost always caught by accident, at least around here. Usually taken while bream or crappie fishing. But once caught one on a Bagley deep diving plug while bass fishing. It was holding deep just off some sheer rock wall. Really aggressive fish are rock bass. And are always a very interesting and appreciated catch.
There are lakes in Minnesota where pound-and-a-half rock bass are fairly prevalent... We don't eat 'em much up here though, they have the stigma of a carp... I personally don't think they taste too bad, and being as they are under fished, they can make for a fun day of catch-and-release...
wow the stigma of a carp?? thats hitting below the belt. carp can be fun to catch though. they are super popluar in europe and are gaining popularity as a game fish in the US.
i caught bout a pound and a half in bayfield ontario i thought he was a small mouth cause thats wat we were cathing but he surprised me , the bigest rockbass i had even seen
I fish on a river about a mile from my home for rock bass. It looks identical to where you are fishing. Red eye are fun!!! Btw im from southeast TN lol
Great rock bass! Olentangy? Scioto? I grew up on the Scioto and really miss all the fishing I did when I was a kid...but now I am taking my 3 all the time and getting the fun back!
true! i cought one about 7 inches long on a 4 inch long lure... dont ask me how it happened cuz i couldnt explain it... i was actually fishing for pike...
Sweet! Yesterday, I went rock bass fishing, and I caught a nice one. It was about the size of the rock bass you caught in this video. Awesome video! 5 stars and favorite.
As a kid I would catch 12-14" rockies all the time in the Mohawk River in upstate NY. Mostly on crankbaits. They seem to have died off, though. Haven't caught a single one in years, regardless of size.
Those things act like bass when they're feeding that's for sure. I once caught a 8" on a huge walleye crankbait (likely bigger than 8") trolling.
an i thought i was the only 1 who loves catching rockbass! glad 2 see there gettin their respect! or as we call them in nj redeyes! 8-10in fish aren't uncommon here.
an i thought i was the only 1 who loves catching rockbass! glad 2 see there gettin their respect! or as we call them in nj redeyes! 8-10in fish aren't uncommon here.
I have a question. I have a black and Chartruse spinner bait. The black has one spinner. Chartrues has two a big and small one. would these be good for dingy water in late spring early fall?
Black is excellent in dark dingy water because the shape of the bait is easier for the fish to see. Black is also good at night. Chartreuse is my favorite color though. Use it in stained water. In clear water try using a crankbait instead.
No offense taken ctford27 but, I'm not in Northern Minnesota this video was done in Central Ohio. Fishing is a little more difficult here, you should be thankful for the beautiful clean waters you have in Northern Minnesota and take into consideration that the fish dont get as big in places where the waters arent always so clean and pristine.
If you ever get a chance to fish southern Missouri in the Big Piney (state record was caught there) or the Gasconade river, 10 inch rockies are not uncommen at all and some up to 13-14. Our state record is 2 pounds 12 ounces. The Missouri Department of Conservation put lenght limits into effect years ago and our rock bass grew huge in some parts. Well worth checking out if you ever make it down here. Love the videos!
Nice fish! I caught one considerably larger but it was in the pristine waters of Michigan. My buddy caught a huge Warmouth that would be unheard of in Ohio as well.
Hey bro, i don't know where u were fishing at, but if u ever get the chance you should try some creeks in Mid. Tennessee. That rock bass would be considered moderate in size. They get huge because no one fishes for them. You'd have a fuggin blast, can't wait till bout June
Thanks for watching Ive been working on a new show thatll be broadcast online beginning in January I fish on public water and then tell the spots where I fish With the support of my fans on the net the new format I'm working on will become the standard in broadcast angling My promise is no private ponds, no mystery locations I hook the fish then show you the spots Look for my new videos in January on many of the producer rewarded video sharing sites by running a search for the term fishnwithjoe
Hey no problem dude. Its actually the land of 10,000 lakes, but close enough. The fishing is pretty good here. I mostly fish rough fish...bullheads and bowfins and such. But I do go bass fishing quite a bit and have caught some nice ones, my biggest bass was about a 7 lb Largemouth. Do you have any good catfish places in Ohio?
Joe sorry about the numbers. I left out alot of lakes please forgive me.
From what I've heard the fishing in Ohio won't compare to Minnesota however, the Ohio River is a pretty good place to catch some big catfish. The Muskingum River in Eastern Ohio is a good place for flathead catfish. I also think the Scioto River fishery is an excellent place for numbers of channel cats.
I fish rockbass alot here in minnesota, and I caught one that was 12.25 inches. But I let it go not knowing that it probably could have beat the minnesota record, which is an even 2 pounds.I catch a lot of them over 10 inches on the river behind my house. Johnson's Silver Minnow with a 3 inch white Mister Twister works great.
Joe you are so blessed to be in the land of a thousand lakes. A 12.25 inch rock bass is enormous in any state. It's a dream of mine to go to your state and enjoy some of the great fishing you have there. A good friend of mine who is in my HD bassin video clip grew up in Minnesota and says the fishing is awesome.

Thank you very much for watching my video.
