I totally agree, another semi-related topic which I also find to be a tip-off of our failing society, many women require a guy who is literally a comedian 24-7 to be happy. I can understand laughs and humor to make a long-term relationship run well, but some women today can't pick a winner to save their lives, literally. Some of the men they pick would make fine court jesters at best, but not necessarily great husbands, and they can't see it. Of course, there are always exceptions.
Why should kids automatically respect their elders just because they are they're elders? You know there are many elders who don't respect children, but you don't often hear people say ' elders don't respect their children'Respect for an individual should not be based on meaningless status symbols such as how old a person is or based on the fact that they belong to a political class or they are some authority figure. It should be based on the fact that the person or group of personsrespected you.
so your saying that nobody should respect anyone - if you don't know someone - you don't know if they respect you so by your logic - you must automatically show them no respect - remember what you said - respect is mutually based - well if you don't know someone you then don't know if they respect you - thats why we are supposed to respect until we are given reason not to respect - if someone is much more powerful- you have to respect there power - they could of course destroy you
I agree with you. Humans do destroy a lot of things because of stupidity and selfishness. The unfortunate thing is is that it takes that to learn that we shouldn't do it again, well sometimes it takes just that. Once again I agree with you in your statements. However, I don't think we have put the government on us that it is now. The rich accomplished that, but we do vote and vote ignorantly a lot.
To make a point clear, I am an avid prepper that's just cowboy wisdom- plan for the worst, work for the best and hope they meet in the middle. If whatever God maybe to you does their part and we do ours, any society cannot help but be better off.
But prepping is just common sense, there are and always will be too many man made or natural problems and the person who doesn't prepare for bad days or maybe bad years is just a fool. I see points of hope in demcads talk, I'd say to follow that hope.

I can admit that the people these days are corrupt, but the government is no higher. As one of the top comments alludes to, we deserve a government that works side to side with us, NOT one that helps us by giving money to the people and then condescends to us by patting on our head and says, "Everything will be fine." That is our job to earn our money, help cycle the currency and earn our happiness. They are not our parents. They are there to protect the homeland.

@slobomotion A society can be evaluated by how it respects and treats its artists. Only about 3% of Americans buy art. Artists are revealers of truth-- and you are a fine artist, slobomotion~! I am an honest craftsman; my craft borders art, but I have heard a lot of lip service over the years by all ranges of people who say-- "Some day, when i am rich, I will have you make me something". The current trend has not favored fine artists.
@carefulcarpenter All I can say man is that I am dang proud of Saint-Denis and France in general for the way it treats arts people and artisans. I live in a Commie town and a big part of our local budget goes to paying them to do stuff and we all get to go see it for free and buy some extra easily. Theirs is not an easy life! I was absolutely thrilled to use my local stained glass guy last year, I bought a buncha stuff off him and he came and hung some art for me, I paid cash! :)

Probably one of the biggest things that we don't think about is that our political parties owe no loyalty to the nation. They are groups of individuals who are loyal first to their members and that actually is how the system was designed-ish. Our founding fathers opposed and warned against the idea of creating and maintaining political parties for just the reasons that we face today. Any permanent party will have these issues. I agree with you Demcad. I have noticed in my short lifetime how society has changed. When I was young, there was a stigma attached to being on welfare or other public assistance when you had the ability to work. Now, people proudly tell everyone they are on food stamps and other assistance. So many people have allowed themselves to become dependent on the government.

I can admit that the people these days are corrupt, but the government is no higher. As one of the top comments alludes to, we deserve a government that works side to side with us, NOT one that helps us by giving money to the people and then condescends to us by patting on our head and says, "Everything will be fine." That is our job to earn our money, help cycle the currency and earn our happiness. They are not our parents. They are there to protect the homeland.

I am an honest craftsman; my craft borders art, but I have heard a lot of lip service over the years by all ranges of people who say-- "Some day, when i am rich, I will have you make me something". The current trend has not favored fine artists.

@carefulcarpenter All I can say man is that I am dang proud of Saint-Denis and France in general for the way it treats arts people and artisans. I live in a Commie town and a big part of our local budget goes to paying them to do stuff and we all get to go see it for free and buy some extra easily. Theirs is not an easy life! I was absolutely thrilled to use my local stained glass guy last year, I bought a buncha stuff off him and he came and hung some art for me, I paid cash! :)

They got their money but they did have to wait and get it paid out in bits. I am so leery of anyone who does not own any original artwork nor any product made by an artisan. Also, those revelations contain common laws (financial, family, social, criminal, etc.) that need to be implemented to have true justice in this world. not that many years ago, I would have encouraged folks to vote. I don't much bother anymore-particularly in local elections where the outcome truly effects my daily life.
And so to our non-voters a big hug and a thank you. my vote is 1/25,000 in my city but when 10,000 don't vote I get a lot more say in my govt. locally at least..
you don't want to vote, great...I am prepared to make those choices for you. and you will live with them and you will do nothing about it .

Whilst I agree with most of the things you said, but the society is too far down the road. The system is broken and it doesn't work any more. In fact it is failing in all fronts - social, values, international, financial, future... Whoever comes to the scene, he can't change much - in that the tide is much bigger than a political system or party can do. I think you might as well click the re-start button and re-boot.

Probably one of the biggest things that we don't think about is that our political parties owe no loyalty to the nation. They are groups of individuals who are loyal first to their members and that actually is how the system was designed-ish. Our founding fathers opposed and warned against the idea of creating and maintaining political parties for just the reasons that we face today. Any permanent party will have these issues. Coalitions anyone?

I agree with you Demcad. I have noticed in my short lifetime how society has changed. When I was young, there was a stigma attached to being on welfare or other public assistance when you had the ability to work. Now, people proudly tell everyone they are on food stamps and other assistance. So many people have allowed themselves to become dependent on the government.
