  • What a wimpy clap stick. D:

  • BASS CLARINET SOLOS!!!! FTW!!!! I LOVED playing this last year. But I stuffed up at the finals for a major competition. XD

  • this made my junior year of high school lol so glad i quit the next year great song to play at my last concert :)

  • Incantation in my Pants!

  • and how is this an honor band!?!?!

  • at least the bass clarinets were ok...god...trombones in this band are a disgrace...:/

  • but i do have to say that the trumpets sounded kinda gnarly....

  • whoa. we're playing this piece in our middle school band right now. im so excited!!!!! we're gonna play it for the spring competition!

  • I cringed. I just played it last year and had to do most of the percussion myself (except for parts that are played at the same time). I could not finish the song. Sorry to the orchestra that played, but the sand blocks not only being off at the beginning but also not being played to the correct rhythm is not acceptable for this piece. The entire work just went downhill from there.

  • 6:07 - Everybody who has played this piece cringed.

  • @dogger5647 BASS CLARINET BUDDIES??? I think so ;D

  • @therealslimshady7953 ME TOO!!!!

  • @therealslimshady7953 Check out my name!!! BASS CLARINET FTW!!!!

  • Well........ This isn't the worst I've heard.

  • Ouch! Tuning.

  • Mine is sooo much better...well i am playing the bass clarinet part...WHICH IS FUN

  • this had to be one of the hardest pieces i have ever played while i was in symphony band

  • My MIddle School is playing this and im proud to say that we sound way better than this, but it is a hard piece, i play templeblocks

  • My Middle School is Playing this and I'm surprised at how well we can play it. Weve got a competition Friday! Hope we play better than this, although it a difficult piece.

  • We played this piece for state in 1978, Iplayed timpini and it was a very hard piece to play, but you are right, the percussion and brass were bad off

  • woahhh my high school do wayy betta dhen dhiis like wtff

  • Trumpets destroyed the melody. I'm disappointed.

  • goddamn those trombones suck

  • this is the high school honor band?!?!at my school theres a symphonic band(top band)and a concert band(2ndband)the concert band is playing this and they are like 69 times better!we arent even through half of our concert season!we sounded like this when we were sight reading this.

  • @bigboydubstep lol, imma call bull shit on that xD

  • SAM??

  • @psp88101 BRYAN??

  • @moneyspent1 this is no where close to "TERRIBLE. playing" I dont know who you are but apparent some perfect musician. You can get the best musicians from around the world, put them in a band together, and it wont be 100% perfect. So you can get out of here with your negativeness. How about you get a band, play this song, then we can see how much better your "perfection" is than this. But untill you do, I cant even believe you have the audacity to critisize them.

But anyway. Good Job Guys :)

  • Im playing this in my middle school band! im in seventh grade and play flute!! :)

  • @BandGeekAJ

i played this for uil im in 8th grade we got straight ones :D

  • my middle school song is playing this!!!!

  • This was the worse thing ive ever heard drums were very off bones were out of tune flute in intro made to many avoidable mistakes if they had just practice

  • the tambourine messed up and that messed up the wood blocks. and the bones came out on there solo to hard, but the woodwind runs sound pretty good

  • I'm playing this with my high school band. I hope it doesn't sound nearly as bad!

  • Got this shit on repeattt

  • the claves came in 2 beats early and that just destroyed everything

  • this is absolutely TERRIBLE. playing, idk who would even put this up on youtube. im sorry, but the percussion was very off, and couldnt play consistently. idk if it was the audio settings or what, but they were very off, and the trombone section, how out of tune were they? granted this is an extremly difficult piece to play. grade 6. better than most ensembles who try to play this though, good job, for getting it for the most part.

  • @moneyspent1 i agree they are pretty off, but it kinda helps me out cause my precussion are kinda horrible and are just as off or worse... not to mention that most of the wind players are off as well =P

  • I think my band played this as a warm-up piece, maybe sight-reading. I can't stand it. Carmina Burana; now that's where it's at. :)

  • nice im playin this for concert band... first really complicated and cool piece we have done that i know of for concert band.... should sound awesome but need more powerful trombones to complete the piece =))

  • Hellz Yeah baritone bitches!!!!!

  • Good job!

  • Very enjoyable - thanks!

  • I played this song in high school. Trombone. It was probably the coolest song we ever played, aside from "Vesuvius" by Frank Ticheli.

  • @LordKellicos Oh, Frank Tichelli. I'm playing a piece by him at Tennesee's Midstate this year. Its called Amen.

  • Slapstick. <3

  • playing this now for our winter concert piece

    im loving it

    the clarinet parts are fantastic

    having first is great!

    the solos are awesome!

  • it sounds like ur playing it a little bit fast.....

  • This is a really difficult piece to play. The runs for clarinet are SO hard. Ugh! I cannot play them to save my life.

  • @rraacchh2 lol your not alone, ive been working on them for about a week and i only half have it down

  • My band director is thinking of letting us do this for concert season gonna be fun

  • what a difficult peice

  • Saxophone's a little too soft at times.

  • nice. :)

however, i feel a lack of... impact maybe? needs better accent i think. but might be the sound quality. nice nonetheless. :)

  • I think this piece would sound better if you took it a tad bit slower. I played this last year in my high school band. It's a hard piece. For the fist few minutes the band just doesn't seem to be together and your all working hard to try and keep up with each other. Sounds good at the end though.

  • What is the time signature of this piece anyway? I counted and always got either 4/4 or 11/8.

  • @Nissim1795

    4/4

  • @Nissim1795 oh it changes a bunch. i theres also a 7/8

  • @Nissim1795 theres also 3/4, 7/8 i think

  • @mutzuz im currently playing it... it starts off 3/4 moves to 4/4 for the remainder of the piece however there are some random 3/4 or 2/4 in the piece for a measure or two here and there

  • Where is the whip part!?! :(

  • @d15k0zach It's there, but it doesn't carry as much as it should. Not much of the intricate percussion parts do. When we played it, I used to put myself on autopilot during rehearsals just to listen to it.

  • hey shrinkman we are 2nd in state but we got ripped off, they even sent us an appology letter.

  • My high school band did this. We are the national champions of 2010! :D

  • @dayrache what band dude? thats awesome

  • @metallover54 Barren County band of Glasgow Kentucky

  • @dayrache sweet thats awesome

  • Comment removed

  • One of the best pieces ever :)

  • Good, but the dance section could have been a tad faster

  • being the only bass clarinet in the band and getting to play this, flippin awesome!

other bass clarinets know what im talkin about!

  • @poweredonlife Amen to that! <3

  • @poweredonlife i totally agree :) i'm the only bass clarinet in my band, and we're working on this at the moment :D

  • @shrinkman200 Such humility! (sarcasm) If your band is so good, let's hear one of your band's performances then! And before you tell me to stop being a hypocrite, there are several videos of my school's band playing. Recent videos include our trip to Spain this year, when we played in Segovia and Madrid. Keywords: WHS Spain. Just those two words.

  • @UndecidedRPGplayer look up the phrase "uil area d" and its the 5th link from the top with "cedar park at uil area d finals" as a subtopic. this is our marching show last year cuz i couldnt find anything else. we placed 1st at area out of the 32 bands that competed and then went on to state where we placed 4th out of the 36 bands that competed. cedar park hs is in austin, tx.

  • I go to play the whip part on this in high school -- damn, it was fun to get out from under that flute! LOL!

  • Thisi music is Karasugawa ongaku syudan in japan.

They have all japan brass contest Gold Medal.

  • the trombones suck

  • @brad2223322 This is a hard piece, and trombones never get good parts. I'm the only trombone in my band and my band is going to play this piece. I promise you I'll play it better.

  • Does anybody else have a contra-bass clarinet in their band? It makes the bass clarinet parts sound so much cooler! Go Allen Highschool Freshmen!

  • @ZimJlp Why yes, yes i am ;-) ima miss it though cuz senior year im going to oboe.....but i just loves the oboe so much!!!!!!

  • this was not a good version. and the trombones sucs.

  • at times it feels like the music is just out there and has nothing to do with the name of the song, no offense to the composer

  • last year i played this song in symphonic at last year's u.i.l. competition..............

everyone's kinda late in their entrances in the begginign and you can hear the trombones rush and the percussion trying to catch up to them

  • trombone ftw!

  • Euphoniums FTW!

  • Lol

  • My middle school band is working on this right now for nat competition. We are trying to go back to back after winning last year with Variations on an Korean Folk Song. (1st chair trumpet)

  • my middle school band did variations last year too and now were doing incantation and dance

  • I played bass clarinet for 8 years and this was by far my favorite to play - nice to get a prominent part in a song!

  • My high school honors band played this my freshman year (waaaaay back in 1991). I played trumpet. It was the hardest thing we ever had to learn, but we did it-- got first place at state competition. Ahhhh the memories! Thanks for posting!

  • temple blocks are off o_o

but the whole band did really good, the blocks just made it seem like they were off-tempo

  • We're learning this in our band right now and our band sucks reaallyyy bad so...

    That's just great... >_>

  • this song made me learn how to play the flute.Peace

    brett

  • Brett from VPK?

  • epic fail

  • wow our 7th grade wind ensemble does better that is sad

  • From the beginning to about 2 min. 20 seconds in it it sounds very good, then the piece loses it's musical flow and doesn't stay together very much...and the performance goes downhill. So yeah I can say overall it's horrible. But the opening flute section and the percussion feature were impressive.

  • I played the bassoon part on the tuba as well as the tuba part, fun as hell. I also had the luxury to march to this in high school

  • my highschool band has gotten straight 1's at every competition we've played in for the last 6 years. and not just our honor band. also our regular advanced band and both jazz bands.

  • Imma need you not to brag about the music u played unless ur high school played Volcano (forgot composer's name)

    Frank Ticheli's Blue Shades

    or

Vox Populi (Voice of the People)

    They tried give them credit!

Oh and btw I love Tempered Steel one of the best songs I played my 10th grade year...soo long ago...

  • Tempered Steel! Oh the memories. From last year. And Volcano, though I wasn't there when our band played it. And add Frank Ticheli and Eric Whitacre, and you've got an all-star cast!

  • That song is amazing. I can't seem to convince my rather stubborn director to fully appreciate it.

  • i played this my freshman year in high school on the bassoon was hard as fuck man, but thats just mean cause double reed intrements arent exatly easy to play but i still did it and i LOVED playing this song!!!

  • I agree with lutari. Without dynamics or without proper emphasis on notes, your just playing it straight. If you play it straight, there is no personality, making even the easiest piece of music sound bad.

  • I like the percussion in this song. =3

  • I love this piece so much. : D

Why is everyone saying it's hard?

    It isn't..

  • because, it is hard. If you think it's easy then your just going through the motions, and aren't playing it with emotions or proper accents or proper anything so it's just gonna sound like garbage. Unless you spend months practicing it, even still it should be a challenge.

  • Or maybe it's just easy because I'm a good player. We've been practicing since August. We're very good. We're the top band at a world famous arts school. We play it amazing. So just shut up, especially when you don't know what I'm talking about.

  • Rofl, some of the comments people post on this video probably take longer to write that watching the actual videos, get a life guys - if you don't like the video then simply move on, alot of these comments I read are just immature kids fishing for compliments, Nobody cares about your band. Kthnx

  • wow you guys are all tools, this is fine and if a band can even get through this piece i give them mad props; there's so many musicians out there that just need to get over themselves...

  • and made state honor band for 2 years

ar 2 woodwind instuctors were both drum majors each 3 years, one of them made the state honor band for 4 years so at least do better next time

BTW are band went to the western international band clinic in seattle on november and to prove it look up WIBC 2008, click, find our school name John foster dulles middle school honar band

lets face it us and many other honorable worthy MIDDLE SCHOOL honor bands are better than this

  • Hahaha.. middle school.

    You make me laugh.

    Grow up. (:

  • im in the dulles middle school honorband and we played this and made second in competition and got straight ones by all judges at uil/ i play bass trombone and im gonna make a bold statement but ur trombones and percussion ar crappy as hell

come to our school if you highschoolers seriously want to know haw to play this

are percussion teacher is an ex-drum corps snare who served on the garfield cadets(drum corps international)

ar brass teacher was 2 time drum major for texas university

  • you make us other trombonists look bad...i have bloody braces on and i can even play better than that

  • wtf no one would play this for marching band ahahah

  • 3:30 was pretty bad....... It is a tough piece and I give you credit for playing it

  • guys cut these people some slack u try playing this peace even looking at it its crazy so dont say they suck u probably suck more than they do who know but dont pick on their sound its hard piece

  • This sounds a mess...

  • our high school symphonic band in wiggins mississippi is doing this song this year we are taking it to the washington D.C. clinic and i hope to post a recording of our variation. I thought that the freanch horn section could put a little more of a contribution into the rythym along with a clearer trombone sound.

  • are you crazy you could never march this peice! the flute part in the beginning would not project at at all and this is not somthing you take out and march. Amazing job playing this though it sounds awesome!

  • There percussion and trombone section makes me want to throw up. So many cracked notes, It seems like every band I listen to does not play this correct. I've only heard one brass section play this right and it was live.

The Tympani player is much to quiet and he isn't muffling the heads of the drums for a crisp sound. It sounds too fuzzy.

  • Nice song, but the band that plays it here sucks!

  • that building up section after the beginning is a train wreck.

  • Heckyes.

This song pwns for percussionists. I played the clave[s?]. <3

I mean, come on. Any song with a whip part in it is epic. ;DDD

The band stuff is good, too. It's...catchy. [still randomly finds herself singing it, sometimes]

  • Agreed on recording quality. I played this song back in the day, and I was a bass clarinet player at the time. I love the song because there is a bass clarinet/bassoon solo and you can't even hear it here. I will look for another one that is a bit better.

  • I love this song, but I have a huge problem with this recording...

  • i'm going to play it in band. its boring man.

  • um...false, its absolutely amazing, especially if ur a percussionist like me

  • yea, me too. i got timbales and bass drum!

    loads of fun.

  • [nodnod]

    Agreed. cx

  • i will try..it has been hard for me to load it though

  • John Barnes Chance was a great composer. His best was Elegy and it literally brought tears to my eyes when I played it at the age of 15 for the first time. I believe Chance had just died a year before. That would make me old! I wish someone would put Elegy out here.

  • my high school band played Elegy for contest, i will try and post it for ya!

  • Please do cuz I would really love to hear it cuz my school's wind ensemble is going to be playing at a conference so I just wanna hear what it sounds like B4 everybody plays it

  • alright i posted it

  • Sweet Jesus. No. No balance whatsoever. And so out of sync and rhythm.

  • It's pretty good!

  • outta tune, m8, i'm sorry to say, but if you post on yt, makes sure its actually, you know, GOOD. :P

  • seriously, J.B.Chance would have been like wth if he wasn't electricuted by a fence in his backyard lol

  • omg I havent heard this for yeeears!!!!

  • I like it!
