This is the same performance Kirsten Flagstad sings Gutrune. It was her role debut and she sang it 3 times that season, but as far as I can tell despite her numerous Wagner performances she never sang it again. How I wish they would have filmed all of it. Thank you for posting.
Siegfried: Max Lorenz,Brunhilde:Frieda Leider,Director: Heinz Tietjen,Set designer: Emil Preetorius,Lighting designer: Paul Eberhard,Artistic director: Winnifried Wagner,conductor: Karl Elmendorff
@amonasro100 "Tempi passati" to be correct, but of course I agree with you. Flagstad did her second season in Bayreuth that year. In 33 she did one of the Walküre sisters and a Rhine maiden, but in 34 she sang Gutrune. She learned a great deal and there is a short clip of her listening to this very rehearsal. As you said, "Nimmer mehr".
It seems unfair not to have any comment on the tenor who was one of the best of his day. Bravo Max you also saved your wife from a concentration camp. Double bravo!
Actually, in her recording of this duet with Fritz Soot, the high C comes out quite thrillingly sustained at the end. I'm inclined to assume that this clip's being a rehearsal is the chief factor here.
She was such an amazing artist. Huge, beautiful voice, under great control. Magnificent! I am grateful for even this short clip of her on film to go with the recordings she made. Thanks for posting.
Thank you so much for posting this. She is such a stupendous singer - her voice was immense, huge, gorgeous! Listen to how she cuts right through the orchestra.

Obwohl -Frieda Leider den letzten Ton abbricht ist das Duett einfach umwerfend gesungen. Wer kann heute noch so singen? Niemand mehr - tempi passato
amonasro100 2 years ago 2
Nein, my dear, sie abbricht nicht den letzen Ton, she is marking, this is a rehearsal.

@VivaRenata
Thank you for correcting me. You are right Tempi passati not tempi passato.
Sorry, my emotions by music made me incorrect.
Still I am looking forward to see the new production of Lohengrin in Bayreuth.
Best regards - and Renata Tebaldi is still one of the very greatest after WW II.

I can't say how I adore her and excuse me for being Beckmesserish, but she didn't real get the final C ...
figliaimpuradibolena 3 years ago
This was a REHEARSAL. Hence her avoiding the high C, she's "marking".

I have recordings with her - and she seemed always to have some problems with her the highest notes (like this high C)...
