  • This song is beautiful and Yoyo and Alison do a most beautiful job performing it. God bless them always.

  • Love it---so pure

  • enchanting

  • The mother is near...

  • When they looked at Alison as she took the stage, they both grinned like they KNEW they were in for a treat.

  • So very lovely it takes my breath.

  • Beautiful.

  • This gave me chills...

  • Best voice since Karen Carpenter

  • The voice of a Angel

  • How can I delete the one of these with a type in the first line?

  • Alison Krauss has a place in my heart -- and this song is the reason. When my husband lay dying from advanced cancer, this song was playing, and I'm sure it gave him comfort.

This son is part of a DVD where Yo Yo Ma teams with Edgar Meyer and Mark O'Connor to play some of the most beautiful instrumentals I've every heard. The addition of Alison and James Taylor made it all perfect. Its name: Appalachian Journey.

  • EXQUISITE...oh my god, exquisite.

  • The best Yo Yo Ma and Alison Krauss song is the Christmas one that I can no longer find on Youtube. Too bad....its hauntingly awesome...

It was called The Wexford Carol.

  • @kllklklklklklklklklk

Type in the google search bar the following: Alison Krauss & Yo Yo Ma The Wexford Carol video

    I just watched it.

  • @295jl .........lol. Thanks. not 5 minutes after I posted that, I found it and added it to my favs....

I guess I should have searched first.

  • Such a gorgeous voice! So pure and perfect. 26 grammies - more than any other female and with no screaming, dirty language or other sherades! We need more music. I am filled with hope when I see the support a video like this receives.

  • @Dirtbikecowboy650 yea, your not gay and i'm roy rodgers

  • in all the songs this one makes you stop and think of loved ones gone xx

  • Don't you see... rather hear? Her voice is pure with no embellishments...barely a vibrato, no endless grace notes, runs, gimmicks. Pitch perfect, timbre matching/blending with whoever/whatever instrument she sings with. She just sings and talent finds talent. Yo Yo Ma? He is humbled to be able to play in her presence. Twenty six freaking Grammys! This woman is amazing. Can you imagine having a job where worked with her? I would probably overdose on the ecstasy!

  • Beautiful voice, what the world neads, just a little more peace! what remarable talent!

  • Stunning!

  • Simply beautiful!

  • Beauty at rest.

  • She is absolutely special. And she's coming to my town soon. I cry just thinking about being near her.

  • Alison Krauss + Yo Yo Ma = Devine music

  • Mark O'Connor on violin and Edgar Meyer on bass, correct?

  • 15 people are idiots

  • so beautiful

  • PEACEFULL !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Alison Krauss is lovely inside and out, and this rendition of Slumber my

Darling is heart breaking. Stephen Foster died in a Bowery slum with

about 39 cents in his pocket. Like so many great artists, he never lived

to see the recognition he deserved.

  • Comment removed

  • @lockmaps You break my heart to tell me how Stephen Foster died. Do you think they get to go to heaven? Do you think they get to see it? (I"m thinking about Vincent Aan Gogh) I'm really hoping that there is a heaven, but I don't know. But, I'm really hoping (and a rainbow bridge too)

  • @Moonchalice I have no doubt that there's a heaven, and those who trust Jesus as their savior will be there. The Bible paints us a beautiful picture of heaven, but it also warns us of the reality of hell. We either take Jesus as our Lord and Savior, or we reject Him. That determines where we spend eternity.

  • @63morgan No doubt? That's quite the presumptive statement. I'm highly anti religious myself but would never make a statement such as, "I'm certain that there is no god" because I would sound like a moron. I don't know any more than any other human being and as far as I can tell no one else can ascertain metaphysical quandaries (therefore neither can you)

  • @ZiPolishHammer Though I realize God has not been proven or dis-proven in a scientific sense, I see great evidence for His existence. At the risk of sounding like a moron, I will again say I have no doubts, though I understand that others do. It is a joy to share my beliefs, but I cannot force them on anyone. God has spoken to me through the scriptures and has given me faith in my heart to know Him, which is proof enough for me.

  • @63morgan

    Rubbish!

  • @yotter58 @63morgan

Yo-Yo plays beautifully and Allison does indeed have a sweet voice which gives a wonderful warm feeling inside. However, you're watching this on a computer, you probably drive a car, use a mobile telephone, and one day you'll go to hospital to be cured of illness. ALL these things are provided by science, technology and engineering using evidence based principles which we now understand from billions of hours of

research. Don't believe in fairy stories, get a science book

  • @yotter58 Are you saying that science and God are incompatible?

  • @63morgan

Not really that, it's just when you write:"God has spoken to me through the scriptures", I get a bit worried. Sorry to cause offence, but these scriptures were devised by bronze age goat herders and have no place in the modern world.

  • @yotter58 Why does my confidence in the scriptures worry you? And on what do you base your statement that they were devised by goat herders? Granted, some of the writers were shepherds; but we also have King David, King Solomon, Luke (a physician), Matthew (tax collector) and Paul (law student & Pharisee, hater and persecutor of Christians who became one himself). More in next post . .

  • @yotter58 As for having no place in the modern world, do we not base much of today's law on the 10 commandments (do not kill, steal, give false testimony, etc.)? Would we not all benefit from Jesus' teachings to love and forgive, help the poor, and treat others as we would like to be treated? Is there no room in the world for those values? Far from being offended, I welcome the opportunity for this exchange with you.

  • @63morgan OK, no amount of me quoting Leviticus 20, Deuteronomy 13 or Exodus 21 v15 will shake your faith in the bible. Nor will the undoubted truth of evolution and other evidence based scientific ideas versus creatonism and superstition. Let's just agree that Allison has a truly fabulous voice and enjoy our short and only life.

  • Just lovely, thanks so much for sharing this.

  • whoa

something ive always loved about her singing is how it resembles her playing

she sounds like a string instrument

  • @theblueangel28

    You are absolutely right!

  • @theblueangel28 as a violin maker i have to agree, good ear. i think the violin trained her voice. also note her early violin and early singing also coincide.

  • Edgar Meyer is the man

  • Kinda seems weird that this composer also wrote "Oh, Suzanna"

  • 癒される唄だな~♪

  • Do you know what year was this.

  • It's funny they point out Yo Yo Ma But not Mark O

connor oe Edgar Meyer, two of the finest musicians around

  • @ChixRChattel idk what u guys r talkin bout but lets try NOT to start the Holocost again?? k thx lol (my class just got done learning about that... it is terrible what happened)

  • I just heard this on an itunes radio station or whatever and i kinda liked it... i didnt hear the whole thing but i guess it is a lullaby or kinda like one idk but i like lullabies lol

  • @ChixRChattel No, let's all work to expose the bigots and racists for what they are; obstructions to the advancement of our civilization!

  • what a great lullaby!

  • excellent, beautiful, great, lovely, etc.... Thanx for posting.

  • @ChixRChattel

If you listen carefully you wiil find that the word is "dews" not "Jews" I made the same mistake at first.

  • @heliodor001

Actually, it is our perception of her lip movement which confirms what we hear. It is an interesting psychological trick our brain plays with us that when the sound, say, 'bah' or 'fah' are recorded and over the top of that sound we are shown a video clip of a mouth forming the syllable ''tah'' then we ''hear'' tah. No matter what the original sound was. It's a strange phenomenon, but actually well know to psychologists. So we can easily be fooled. Even if we know it is being done.

  • for bea and Joshua at school. listen before you go to bed.

  • Yikes - I just got a load of shivers. Beautiful, just beautiful.

  • I hate country music, but this is excellent.

  • @SillySantaHat This isn't country. This is a song from the mid-1800's by Stephen Foster.

  • @mh605 I was just saying that because she is a country singer and there is a hint of country in her voice on this song. I know it isn't in the same vein as Travis Tritt or Brooks and Dunn.

  • This is my latest video addiction. Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Gillian Welch ohhhhh You Tube I love you all - thank you, thank you!!

  • LOL,,

Global news - get him in the mountains when alone - I be going to exshaw,, pick me there, i wont say anything that you control digital divices. - new program = hmm clean what has been said already. hmm what investigation. what secret. LMAO- the secret was always you- oh hey my name is tommy, and hey you can frame me I wont say anything about your hired killers and what the tax money goes too.. ppl wont know.

  • Alison Krauss is the closest thing we have on Earth to an angels voice.

  • @lukeallyn try Art Garfunkel, Jeff Buckley, Ben Harper, Jon Anderson, Eva Cassidy as well more angels.

  • Truly beautiful xxxxxxx

  • wooo goosebumps..

  • @snakestorm123

You can find it on iTunes I believe

  • I love Alison Krauss and add in Yo Yo Ma - perfection

  • Oh my! Never have I heard this Stephan Foster song; to hear it sung like this by the angelic and understated lyrical Allison Krauss...played like this by Yo Yo Ma and others of great gentle subtlety...such genius! THANK You for the post.

  • Where can I get a mp3 of this? It's outstanding, and I'm not normally an Alison Krauss fan, this is hallowed, haunting and eerily beautiful.

  • That Orchestra is beautiful, but the fact i almost forget its there when Alison sings, Is nothing short of amazing

  • i want to be able to do this someday. :)

  • For Sarah Frances! Sleep my darlilng!

  • @Autsom57 Our Mema just passed and this song brings such comfort... her name is Sara Frances. May both of our Sarah Frances slumber in peace.

  • @JRLeROY3 Yes, I send this to my Sarah Frances to have a good sleep as to be refreshed when she gets up to go to work the next morn.

Thank you for you pleasant words. My the Lord comfort you.

  • This is purity!!

  • Sweet long lost music that reminds me of my sweet long lost children...

  • This was very special and awesome...so beautiful...thanks for posting! :)))

  • @MrKingsRow Thank you for sharing this beautiful music with me!

    -----------Ellen

  • Perfect tone.... awesome control..... what a great talent!! ~KK

  • This is beyond mearly being beautiful, it is angelic.

  • This is for my daughter and sons and grandchildren.

    I love o so much.

    Dad & Mom

  • A few days before my husband Tony died, we watched the video with this song. We cried together. Then the day arrived when I knew the end was very near. My sister and nephew were there with us, and Michael played this song softly as my sweet Tony breathed his last. My heart is entwined with beauty and sorrow when I hear this.

  • @SilverBee Tony loves you dearly SilverBee be strong

  • very nice! です.

  • thank you, that's all darling....

  • Yet another example of a talented singer with a beautiful voice who does not pay attention to the fact that the sound of her inhalations has dominated an otherwise sublime 5 minutes of music.

  • I can't wait to sing this to my future children..

  • So very beautiful. I had this played at my twin sister's funeral. Of all the music in the universe this spoke to her heart from mine.

  • @metubegirl01 Such a beautiful memory for your sister. My sympathies. I had twin sisters and one has died. I was not told until two months later and the shock was overwhelming. Listening to this has brought me some peace even though only for several minutes. Her memory is haunting like Mrs. Krauss's voice.

  • Mtbead, I agree with Mr. Paisley, but if heaven if as it's supposed to be, we will all be gladly waiting while Allison cerrinades God. Lilyflower, yes God has given the world a gift in her voice, and thank God, she has done nothing but improve it over time. Not like these lip syncing wastes of oxyegen, i.e. Britney, etc. Allison K., in my opinion, is the greatest female vocalist of all time.

  • This is one of the reasons my cd "appalachian journey" is one of my favorites.

  • Heaven, I'm in heaven.

  • This is the most gentle music I ever heard, thank you for all of you!

  • While he plays the fiddle alison watches his soul....Soulful

  • FANTASTIC!

  • this is soooo wonderfully beautiful!

  • Great arts - proportional balanace: this music and this calm.

  • It's like the instruments themselves reach out to cradle her voice. What a beautiful gift that God has given us in Alison! A beautiful angel!

  • Fascinating how four billion years of evolutionary ladder climbing can conjour tonsil ticklers to tantalize the sensitive souls scattered amongst us.

  • @lilyflower245 Amen!

  • @lilyflower245

I doubt Stephen Foster realized just how beautiful a song he'd written. Too bad he never heard her sing it. She is pitch perfect every time...stunning.

  • @lilyflower245 And don't forget Yo Yo and the other two. Well, they are not named here, so I guess we have to forget them.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • So beautiful!

  • Mark O'Connor et al aren't bad either!

  • seems like a skip at about 2:20?

  • more like 2:16

  • Let this be a prayer for Kate McGarrigle

...one of the lanterns of our time.

  • Thank you! So well said!

    R.I.P. Kate McGarrigle

  • Your unbelievable gal!! The guys are pretty good too!!! LOL

  • My God. Her voice is so beautiful. Almost makes me cry.

  • Alison sings with Yo Yo on three of his albums (at least), and, of course, I have all three! This has to be the most moving of the three, especially realizing that her child was about a year old when she recorded the song. Turns me into jelly every time I hear it, especially at the line, "Thou, thou art the world to me/in thine innocent charms." If there's a sweeter lullaby in the English language, I don't know of it.

  • SHIRT!!!this is gonna make me bear a tear.Trgeit carry on.

  • Thank you for posting this. It is beyond lovely. What a wonderful combination. I will play it often, I know.

  • This was so soothing and beautiful. Thank you for posting this.

  • Beautiful! Now I'm off to buy the album -- Appalachian Journey. (See there record companies... folks uploading your artists' music isn't necessarily a "bad" thing.) :)

  • @hoodatwhatzit I have the CD myself, and it is worth every penny and then some..my own personal fav on it is James Taylor doing "Hard Times Come Again No More"....tied with this one, of course, lol.

  • @hoodatwhatzit Exactly, my dad told me about Alison Krauss and Robert Plant right after I bought the sountrack of Get Low, having loved AK's closing titles song. I had a look at AK and RP on youtube and then I went straight to Amazon to buy the cd... There you go! (and I wish there were more record stores, they are now a dying species).

  • Wow! I think that if there is just one singing angel in heaven, she has to sound like Alison Krauss.

  • I hope so!!

  • Wow... That was absolutely breath-taking. Her soft, sweet voice fading in and out with the violin is such a flawless combination. :3

  • xXAniMexCoOkiEsXx- I couldn't have said it any better! Bravo!!!

  • Rest in Peace, Stephen Foster. His most beautiful song.

  • If you have children squeeze them tight tonight and every night.. My 3 year old neice was hit by a car 3 weeks ago. She's dead :(

  • Myusic909head-I'm sorry for your loss.

  • heartbreaking...sympathies R.I.P

  • Myusic909head- So sorry to hear that... Music is a good meditation for a broken heart, 5 years ago, I lost my father, who was a music teacher in a small town, music helped me went through my hardest time. Crying in music, I made my decision to be a musician. Love is all!

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine losing any of my nieces and nephews. I love them all so much. Nieces and nephews are supposed to lose their aunts and uncles, not the other way around, and no parent should ever have to bury a child.

  • What a combination - World class artists performing the work of a world class songwriter!

If you ever get the chance to see AKUS live, do so!!

  • I concur! Well said and absolutely so!

  • I sing this song of my less.

It is a very diffucult number!

    But it is beatifeaul!!!

  • I've already commented on this already, but I'm gonna again ... this song just leaves me blubbering with emotion. This is the human heart laid bare. It makes me think of when my children were born, 20 years ago now. As every new parent knows, there are no words in any language to describe that feeling. But songs like this come close ....

  • ...angels song

  • Snuggle up with your baby while she goes to sleep in your arms while listening to this song. It is a pathway to God!! Beautiful can't describe this song!

  • Comment removed

  • wonderfuly done by all of them! it's amazing that they can can do what they love doing most as a career...

  • Simply beautiful.

  • Oh yeah!!!

  • sweet voice!

  • this is just incredible. I can't wait to play this for my 4 year old niece. she loves lullabies.

  • I agree with Keeper. Ghost in this House is one of my absolute favorites. Alison does have the voice of an angel!

  • wow her voice makes me feel like cryin its so beautiful

  • Oh my god. There are moments in time where a window is opened directly into the human heart. This is one of them.

  • Not to deminish the talent of the others but Alison does this with everything she sings. My favorite is her version of Ghost in this house.

  • Esto es una cancion de cuna escocesa no es cierto.? Muy bella

  • Her voice is so angelic..

  • That was beautiful, i had shivers down my spine the entire time I was listening to it.

  • I LOVE Alison Krauss...... So beautiful... Such an angelic voice......

  • no matter how many times i hear her singing this the goose bumps ALWAYS arrive,

she has the most special voice..
