I have a question. Say someone was on the treadmill with rollerblades while it was off and then the treadmill was turned on. The person wouldn't fall because the wheels on the rollerblades would just roll in the opposite direction to counter the momentum, right?
So, that being said, how would skating at 40km be different from skating at 10km? You'd figure the only difference would be the speed of the wheels and the machine, or am I wrong?
To add some context here, my prior comment was in response to, "(What would happen if the treadmill stopped)?" if we wan't to be technical the skater wouldn't naturally be able to immediately stop his stride & would accelerate towards the skatemill's front barrier, though without much acceleration.
In any case. I shouldn't bother referencing general knowledge more accurately explained by wikipedia.
@DMxNemesis In this video you see a test version of the treadmill, tested by a few speedskaters. No safety cord was available in this case which required a limited operating speed and resulted in hardly pushing during skating.
I don't agree that's useless because in the commercial version it's possible to a increase the speed, add a huge fan, tilt the threadmill or use a resistance cable around your hibs. You make it as tough as you want!
If you are not pushing forward, you will slide backward. If you have used a treadmill, you will know what I mean. Certainly you are not fighting against air drag, but I am sure the device will be just as effective as the real, especially if it can incline. You will then have to fight the gravity, instead of air drag.
@ThrashXXXDisciple The commerical treadmill will be supplied with a safety cord and beld. When you fall down, the treadmill will stop immediately based on a controlled system. In this video you see a test version of the treadmill, tested by a few speedskaters. In this case the speed was limited up to approximately 30km/h.
does anyone realize that he's not actually working that hard.... he's on wheels... if the mill was going to fast it would matter becasue he's on wheels.
He needs to fight the moving floor, or he will move back. If you are moving at constant speed or standing still, there is no change in momentum. In other words, unless you are changing speed, a skater applies force only to fight the air drag, skate/ground drag, etc. Note that along the direction of travel,
force = mass* change of velocity + drag = change of momentum + drag. The only thing missing on the treadmill is the air drag.
Wow !! it is the coolest treadmill, I ever seen . I would love to have one of those treadmill, but of course it won't fit were I live and I can't afford it.
This one was limited up to 30 km/h because we were not wearing a safety cord. Actually, the company who made this Skatemill can upgrade it till more then 40/45 km/h...if you want.

as long as he stopped pushing i'm pretty sure nothing would happen since he has no momentum.
