@ 4:01 he said this would provide us with a "long term supply of sustainable energy". Although I'm no expert, but no matter how you look at it, oil which could only be converted into energy through combustion cannot possibly be sustainable. Reducing CO2 emissions does not make it sustainable. It's like saying we're not harming the environment as much as we would before, therefore we're helping to restore it. No! you're merely damaging it slower, which doesn't solve the problem at all.
This propaganda film brought to you buy Stephen Harper, the Alberta government, China, Exxon Mobil, BP, Japan, United States of America, South Korea, France, and every other country or corporation invested in the "business as usual" profit driven oil industry.
@imN0Ttheone My house is heated from a combination of electricity from hydroelectric and unfortunately to a greater and greater extent coal. My car runs on oil from the middle east but I wish it didn't. The tar sands are for export mostly to the United States and China. Altogether I think you are missing the point of why the tar sands are unsustainable and a really poorly thought out direction for humanity as a whole.
@GlobalClimateNews So the fossil fuels you use in large quantities to heat your home and run your car you don't want other people to have or sell . You also seem to want countries that support terrorists and don't support human rights to profit from the sale of oil but not countries like Canada . I just wanted to make sure you were as poorly thought out as all the other eco freaks .
There's just no reason to KILL LIVING biodiversity. When corporate interests KILL this, they KILL themselves. One must take care of them self in order to live a long healthy LIFE. Same goes for our great mother Earth. May Gaia unleash her wrath upon us, or cease to support such a pathogen as Humans......
The Canadian government is muting all public funded research that implies damage done by the tarsands. Our conservative government has an agenda and it is to protect their friends in oil.
@Xwowplaya We want to get off oil from countries that treat women as cattle and where the oil money is used for terrorism. Get on the wagon and support your country, stop being a traitor.
@justanoldman1 The big picture is that fossil fuels are destroying our environment and these tar sands expediate that process. Whether the fuel comes from Saudi or here it is still dangerous and contaminate our ground water, heat up the earth and demands dependancy. Alternative energy is the inevitable future.
It is not treason to disagree with government policy, rhetoric like that is usually reserved for people with no other alternative to make a valid point.
@Xwowplaya You have fallen prey to the global warming scam. CO2 is not a polutant, it is needed by plants to grow. Millions of years ago the CO2 levels were much, much higher than what we have now and the earth was covered by rich greenery and very large animals. We have gone through many warming and cooling period and nothing we as human can do the change that. Man made global warming is a scam, now water and air polution is real and we should do something about that.
@justanoldman1 It amazes me that big oil has corrupted so many minds into believing that anthropologic climate change is a hoax. We know its real; in the 70's we eradicated acid rain by implementing regulations on SO2 emissions. Decades later people now think that CO2 isn't a greenhouse gas, next you'll tell me fossil fuel emissions don't contain CO2.
Look up the temperature of Venus and the constituents of its' atmosphere to see what CO2 does with trapped thermal energy.
@Xwowplaya Lets get cities to stop dumping raw sewage into the oceans. Lets start with Victoria. Ottawa dumps raw sewage into the Ottawa river after every large rain storm, why are you not screeming about that?
Lets forget the CO2 phoney polution story and fix the things that really matter. Business can put scrubers on the smokie stacks and we can clean up our rivers and lakes. Lets aim for things that really matter and let our oil flow.
@justanoldman1 You make so many good points but fail to understand fossil fuels. You obviously don't want your water polluted by waste in urban areas yet you fail to regard the fact that the tar sands use 6 litres of oil for every 1 litre of oil produced.
The molecular geometry of CO2 allows radiation past it, but it absorbs thermal energy thus "trapping it in our atmosphere. I did an experiment in grade 11 to prove it. Coupled with massive deforestation I wonder what will soak up the extra?
@Xwowplaya They are recycling the water now so they use very little compared to the past. Our current levels of CO2 are at 285 PPM and during the jurasic period they were over 3000 PPM. Volcanic activity has a lot to do with the levels. I am not worried about CO2 it is a natural eliment in the atmosphere whereas there are lots of other polution you could be worried about. In the mean time, Canada needs the tar sands to be independent of the middle east and thier blood oil.
@justanoldman1 CO2 emissions are putting millions of lives in danger. As the earth warms, the icecaps are melting, raising sea levels and changing weather patterns. Evidence of this is apparent with droughts and floods in Australia, larger hurricanes in the atlantic and countries fighting over the newly thawed arctic. The past saw larger levels of CO2 but was that world suitable for mammals that need considerably larger amounts of O2 for cellular respiration?. Our behaviour is affecting climate.
@Xwowplaya Perhaps it is but there is really nothing we can do, even if we all stopped living, the changes would still go on. There have been several iceages and of course heating in between and I persume the same will continue to happen. If the oceans raise then we will have to move our cities to higher ground, mankind will always find a way.
@justanoldman1 Absolutely wrong and that attitude is the only thing making it difficult. The electric car has already been patented but rebuked from the market by GM who confiscated over 5000 of the cars from the road in 2001. alternatives can be implemented but big oil is lobbying to extinguish them, solar cells on the white house have been removed even though they were already working! When our children write there history books, I wonder who they will speak favourably of?
@Xwowplaya The government of Ontario is paying 80 cents per KW for solar energy and selling it to us at 6 cents. Wind power is almost as bad, they pay 42 cents and again sell it to us at 6.
The green energy is not working, it is just too expensive and not reliable, we still need full backup for when the sun does not shine and the wind does not blow. If you have the back up why waste the money on these more expensive sourses?
We still need the oil and lets make it Canadian oil.
@justanoldman1 Where do these numbers come from? Your ass? The only costs associated with wind and solar is the capitol investment. It is impossible to know the cost/Kwh unless you know the lifespan of the infrastructure which could last 50 years or more, so where do those numbers come from and how is the capitol put into coal not the same? With a large enough grid, there is always wind or sun energy to be captured. Not to mention the power of conservation.
@justanoldman1 You have to substantiate that claim with some evidence. What conglomerate of companies would ever sell electricity at 70% and 35% loss, no industry is that subsidized. Also you have to enlighten me as to how green movement is sending jobs to third world countries. Is it because we don't pollute enough? I find that statement utterly repulsive. Why should our country work backwards? The companies sending jobs over seas in the name of ridiculous bonuses should be held accountable.
@Xwowplaya Where do you live, on mars? Most western countries have tried solar energy and have given up on it as it is just too expensive and unreliable as well.
The figures I quoted are from Ontario Hydo One, llok it up for yourself. The Ontario Government passed what they call the green energy act and spent $7 billion dollars of solar panel and said it would creat 20,000 jobs. So far it has generated 300 jobs, that means if job is worth about 2.5 million dollars.
@justanoldman1 I have tried to find your numbers but they simply aren't there, so if you want to may such bold claims you will have to substantiate them. Government waste is everywhere, if we dismissed what political assholes do with our money, we wouldn't have a country at all. ie.$1 billion on G20 summit which was 2 days long! How much money was wasted when provinces created the first coal plants? I do not want money wasted but rather see it done on infrastructure for the future.
@Xwowplaya If you can not find the numbers you must be to stupid to use your computer. Just contact Ontario Hydro One and look up what they pay for solar and wind power. Then you can look up their hydro rates, looking at my bill, non peak rate is 5.9 cents per kWh. The green energy act allows Hydro One to pay 80 cents for solar and 42 cents for wind powered energy. This is a liberal government that just does not know how to save money, they just increase taxes all the time.
@justanoldman1 I have read the list of prices consumers pay but not the 80 and 42 cents you said. If that is legal for ontario, it doesn't mean that Is what the energy is being produced at. Once again, when the infrastructure is in place there are no additional costs besides maintenance, we do not have to buy fuel also. FYI the national debt has double under Harper, not entirely his fault but the right wing economic policies is what brought the states to their knees, now he's doing the same.
@justanoldman1 I get it now, your a neo-con! All this time I thought I was arguing a GW denier. Take your bat shit ideas and move south with them. Canada is great because of social undertakings and are respected world wide for our human rights record. You sound just like a teabagger! I belong to a union and without the solidarity of working class people to unhinge the complete dominance of the ultra-wealthy, there would be no middle class. Your comments are what is unCanadian!
@Xwowplaya I am a conservative and I see our big unions killing our country and sending our manufactoring to third world countries.
Our government unionized workers earn about 1/3 more that anyone in private industry and they have pensions that no one in the private sector can even come close to.
Our health care is in it's death grip because of unions taking all the money and not giving service in return. The hospitals are dirty and unkept and the cleaner sleep in the lockers.
@justanoldman1 You have a very skewed version of reality. If unions are somehow sending jobs to third world countries (a decision made by corporate management) do you suggest that Canadians give up our standard of living to that equal to these third worlds? What a wonderful direction for our country to go. As for healthcare, I have received wonderful care from our professionals in hospitals, a service I hope you receive also, even with your terrible assessment of them. Your ideas are poison.
@Xwowplaya Blaming the conservatives for the current debt is more then just laughable its dishonest . Are you really that stupid or are you just full of shit ?
@imN0Ttheone I don't see where I have blamed conservatives for our debt, but lets look at their spending record; 1 billion for a weekend with G20 pals, 10 billion on jails, 25 billion on ships and 35 billion on F-35s. This is all during a global recession!
These are all expenditures based on a neo-con philosophy of big military and "tough on crime" overcompensation. Ideas that don't do a country any good. Just look at the states now.
@Xwowplaya Are you really that ill informed or are you just stupid ? Jack Layton and Michael Ignatieff screamed for the conservatives to increase spending by 50% to stimulate the economy after the 2009 financial meltdown . Layton and the NDP all voted for the ships and Ignatief and crew all voted for the F35s . If we are to have a military in Canada we cannot continue to use boats from WW II and jets from the 1960s . Even a simpleton like yourself should be able to understand that .
@imN0Ttheone I said nothing about the stimulus, I agree with how Canada implemented the stimulus by investing in Canada itself by developing infrastructure, not bailing out banks like the U.S. I do have grievances with spending $1,000,000,000,000.00 on a weekend with diplomats while Harper was saying he is fiscally responsible. We have other things to worry about than the military $70,000,000,000,000.00 could buy canada enough infrastructure to get off oil with renewable energy.
@Xwowplaya I don't like the money spent on the G20 either but you know what ever country/ government of the day has these meetings now will have to spend these vast sums . If you believe we would still have a viable military with out spending these monies your wrong . 40 years of liberal governments had left the Canadian military with wwII ships and 1960s aircraft that somebody had to replace . You could argue that we should just abandon our military but most people would be against that .
@imN0Ttheone Excuses for politicians poor spending is enabling their bad decisions, fight for what is right. Furthermore, since when has Canada had a great military you elude to? The reason we have a small military is because we have a wonderful reputation worldwide as a peace loving country (we invented peace keepers). We aren't imperialistic like the states. I never advocated disbanding the military, I said the money would be better spent elsewhere, not compensating for Harpers inadequacies.
@Xwowplaya You fail to relize that who ever is the government of the day will spend on things like the G20 . That does not make it right but it is reality . We had a good military during WWII when my grandfather gave both his legs for this country . Forty years of liberal governments turned Canada's military into a laughing stock . Even peace keepers need planes that don't fall out of the sky and boats that don't sink .
@imN0Ttheone I don't fail to realize anything, I don't make excuses for politicians that misuse our money, I demand accountability as the rest of Canadians should. The reason our military was good during WW2 is because it needed to be. Furthermore, we did not have planes or ships, we had tactics and tenacity. The men who stormed the beaches of Normandy with nothing but a pea shooter are the reason Canada is renowned for it liberation of Europe.
@Xwowplaya Obviously to most people you fail to relize many things . If you think the world is more secure now then it was prior to WWII you are simply a fool . People like you that have no idea what you are taliking about because you have never served this country nor will you ever . By the way asshole my grand father stormed the beach @ Normandy with two machine guns not a pea shooter as you liberals would have mandated .
@imN0Ttheone Holy Fuck, you think there is a bigger threat to peace right now then the German army circa 1949? 50,000,000,000 died because of that! There is no force right now that compares to that threat. Both my Grandfathers stormed Normandy and I am very proud of them, so proud in fact that I would never want to send troops into harms way unless absolutely necessary. My point about peashooters was that it was not state of the art equipment they used compared to today.
@imN0Ttheone FYI if you think "most people you fail to relize many things" it means your on the fringe and are wrong. I still can't believe you think right now is more threatening then before WW2? You are paranoid and delusional. The only threat to peace right now is religious fundamentalists (both christian and muslim) that think a preemptive strike is the best form of diplomacy. See the doctor.
@imN0Ttheone In the grand scheme of things only a marginal number of people have ever died because of nuclear weapons compared to hundreds of millions over the last hundred years that have died through conventional weaponry. I would love to see nuclear proliferation but I am not naive enough to believe that there is a force in the world capable of the death tools the Nazis have claimed. You are only scared of what the right wing media propaganda machine tells you to be afraid of.
@Xwowplaya Comparing the death of about 85,000 people that took place in a a matter of seconds to the events of a time frame of a 100 years is stupidity . I'm not scared of anything but total idiots like you reproducing .
@imN0Ttheone Name calling; what an argument, next your going to tell me that your dad can eat up my dad. The issue is what is a more viable threat. Currently there are ten nations that have nuclear capabilities and the only one to use them have been the States, and that is over a 60 year period. Meanwhile conventional weapons are littered across the planet and people die every second from bullets. If you're scared of nukes, go hide in your bunker and let the rational people decide what is best.
@Xwowplaya Never before in history have we had a country that is on the verge of becoming armed with nuclear weapons that has vowed to wipe another country off the face of the earth . Nor have we ever had a country ruled by religious fanatics with surogates like Hezbala and Hamas that they could hand off nuclear wepons to . Your Neville Chamberlain like perspective and ignorance on this topic is mind numbing .
@imN0Ttheone Iran has never said it would use nuclear weapons on Israel, it doesn't want Israel to exist as with 90% of the other countries in the neighbourhood, which it didn't until it was forcibly made after WW2. The bids for Palestine to enact its own statehood in the UN security counsel failed (the same route Israel took) and all they were fighting for was the original borders so that Israeli settlers don't occupy their land with armed security of the Israeli army.
@imN0Ttheone Pakistan has nukes and it shares many of the same views, where are your war cries against Pakistan? They also harboured Bin Laden while taking money from the states to help them fight the war on terror. As far as countries ruled by religious zealots, there are many; and if the republicans win in the States in November you can add one more to the list. The right wing war propaganda machine has a strong hold over you my friend.
@imN0Ttheone As I said from the start I wish there was complete nuclear proliferation, but that will never happen. I am not naive enough to think that countries like Iraq or Iran will ever pose serious threats to world peace. Regional peace maybe, but our foreign policy should not include intervention until necessary ie. WW1, WW2. Iran will not march across Europe and Asia, even with a nuke. The farthest they will get is to their border before they decide to turn back.
@Xwowplaya "Iran has never said it would use nuclear weapons on Israel" Iran has stated numerous times that it wants to wipe Isreal off the map . They are now on the verge of aquring weapons that will allow then to do just that . You are obviously too ill informed and too stupid to put two and two together , thank god most people are not . You are one stupid cunt .
@imN0Ttheone To fight the war in europe, Canada conscripted. We conscripted men and women along with private ships to move troops and supplies. To think that Canada had a large military just waiting to go fight Germany is absurd. Canada has gotten by just fine in the world arena without having to spend 5% of our GDP on military infrastructure.
Harper is the Canadian G.W.Bush and you'll be saying the same in 4 years when his policies have put us in the same bind the states are in now.

Are you really that stupid or are you just full of shit ?
imN0Ttheone 1 month ago
@imN0Ttheone I don't see where I have blamed conservatives for our debt, but lets look at their spending record; 1 billion for a weekend with G20 pals, 10 billion on jails, 25 billion on ships and 35 billion on F-35s. This is all during a global recession!
These are all expenditures based on a neo-con philosophy of big military and "tough on crime" overcompensation. Ideas that don't do a country any good. Just look at the states now.
Are you really that dumb or just full of shit?

@Xwowplaya Are you really that ill informed or are you just stupid ? Jack Layton and Michael Ignatieff screamed for the conservatives to increase spending by 50% to stimulate the economy after the 2009 financial meltdown . Layton and the NDP all voted for the ships and Ignatief and crew all voted for the F35s . If we are to have a military in Canada we cannot continue to use boats from WW II and jets from the 1960s . Even a simpleton like yourself should be able to understand that .
imN0Ttheone 1 month ago
@imN0Ttheone I said nothing about the stimulus, I agree with how Canada implemented the stimulus by investing in Canada itself by developing infrastructure, not bailing out banks like the U.S. I do have grievances with spending $1,000,000,000,000.00 on a weekend with diplomats while Harper was saying he is fiscally responsible. We have other things to worry about than the military $70,000,000,000,000.00 could buy canada enough infrastructure to get off oil with renewable energy.
Xwowplaya 1 month ago
@Xwowplaya I don't like the money spent on the G20 either but you know what ever country/ government of the day has these meetings now will have to spend these vast sums . If you believe we would still have a viable military with out spending these monies your wrong . 40 years of liberal governments had left the Canadian military with wwII ships and 1960s aircraft that somebody had to replace . You could argue that we should just abandon our military but most people would be against that .
imN0Ttheone 1 month ago
@imN0Ttheone Excuses for politicians poor spending is enabling their bad decisions, fight for what is right. Furthermore, since when has Canada had a great military you elude to? The reason we have a small military is because we have a wonderful reputation worldwide as a peace loving country (we invented peace keepers). We aren't imperialistic like the states. I never advocated disbanding the military, I said the money would be better spent elsewhere, not compensating for Harpers inadequacies.
Xwowplaya 1 month ago
@Xwowplaya You fail to relize that who ever is the government of the day will spend on things like the G20 . That does not make it right but it is reality . We had a good military during WWII when my grandfather gave both his legs for this country . Forty years of liberal governments turned Canada's military into a laughing stock . Even peace keepers need planes that don't fall out of the sky and boats that don't sink .
imN0Ttheone 1 month ago
@imN0Ttheone I don't fail to realize anything, I don't make excuses for politicians that misuse our money, I demand accountability as the rest of Canadians should. The reason our military was good during WW2 is because it needed to be. Furthermore, we did not have planes or ships, we had tactics and tenacity. The men who stormed the beaches of Normandy with nothing but a pea shooter are the reason Canada is renowned for it liberation of Europe.
Xwowplaya 1 month ago
@Xwowplaya Obviously to most people you fail to relize many things . If you think the world is more secure now then it was prior to WWII you are simply a fool . People like you that have no idea what you are taliking about because you have never served this country nor will you ever . By the way asshole my grand father stormed the beach @ Normandy with two machine guns not a pea shooter as you liberals would have mandated .
imN0Ttheone 1 month ago
@imN0Ttheone Holy Fuck, you think there is a bigger threat to peace right now then the German army circa 1949? 50,000,000,000 died because of that! There is no force right now that compares to that threat. Both my Grandfathers stormed Normandy and I am very proud of them, so proud in fact that I would never want to send troops into harms way unless absolutely necessary. My point about peashooters was that it was not state of the art equipment they used compared to today.
Xwowplaya 1 month ago
@imN0Ttheone FYI if you think "most people you fail to relize many things" it means your on the fringe and are wrong. I still can't believe you think right now is more threatening then before WW2? You are paranoid and delusional. The only threat to peace right now is religious fundamentalists (both christian and muslim) that think a preemptive strike is the best form of diplomacy. See the doctor.

@Xwowplaya Germany did not have nukes .
imN0Ttheone 1 month ago
@imN0Ttheone In the grand scheme of things only a marginal number of people have ever died because of nuclear weapons compared to hundreds of millions over the last hundred years that have died through conventional weaponry. I would love to see nuclear proliferation but I am not naive enough to believe that there is a force in the world capable of the death tools the Nazis have claimed. You are only scared of what the right wing media propaganda machine tells you to be afraid of.
Xwowplaya 1 month ago
@Xwowplaya Comparing the death of about 85,000 people that took place in a a matter of seconds to the events of a time frame of a 100 years is stupidity . I'm not scared of anything but total idiots like you reproducing .
imN0Ttheone 1 month ago
@imN0Ttheone Name calling; what an argument, next your going to tell me that your dad can eat up my dad. The issue is what is a more viable threat. Currently there are ten nations that have nuclear capabilities and the only one to use them have been the States, and that is over a 60 year period. Meanwhile conventional weapons are littered across the planet and people die every second from bullets. If you're scared of nukes, go hide in your bunker and let the rational people decide what is best.
Xwowplaya 1 month ago
@Xwowplaya Never before in history have we had a country that is on the verge of becoming armed with nuclear weapons that has vowed to wipe another country off the face of the earth . Nor have we ever had a country ruled by religious fanatics with surogates like Hezbala and Hamas that they could hand off nuclear wepons to . Your Neville Chamberlain like perspective and ignorance on this topic is mind numbing .
imN0Ttheone 1 month ago
@imN0Ttheone Iran has never said it would use nuclear weapons on Israel, it doesn't want Israel to exist as with 90% of the other countries in the neighbourhood, which it didn't until it was forcibly made after WW2. The bids for Palestine to enact its own statehood in the UN security counsel failed (the same route Israel took) and all they were fighting for was the original borders so that Israeli settlers don't occupy their land with armed security of the Israeli army.
Xwowplaya 1 month ago
@imN0Ttheone Pakistan has nukes and it shares many of the same views, where are your war cries against Pakistan? They also harboured Bin Laden while taking money from the states to help them fight the war on terror. As far as countries ruled by religious zealots, there are many; and if the republicans win in the States in November you can add one more to the list. The right wing war propaganda machine has a strong hold over you my friend.
Xwowplaya 1 month ago

You are one stupid cunt .
imN0Ttheone 1 month ago
@imN0Ttheone To fight the war in europe, Canada conscripted. We conscripted men and women along with private ships to move troops and supplies. To think that Canada had a large military just waiting to go fight Germany is absurd. Canada has gotten by just fine in the world arena without having to spend 5% of our GDP on military infrastructure.
Harper is the Canadian G.W.Bush and you'll be saying the same in 4 years when his policies have put us in the same bind the states are in now.

Ok, I have made my mind up on this issue after watching many videos on YouTube.
Someone please show me a legitimate video proving pond leaks, oily birds, and contamination along the pipeline paths?

@benknefelkamp Pipe lines transporting oil from the tar sands are still failing even with new technological developments...
The Exxon pipeline leak in the Yellow Stone river last summer is evidence of your oily birds, and contamination along pipeline paths.

What does it matter if the laws are not enforced? In the States fines are just a part of doing business and can be written off in taxes.
