  • You want a good air purifier that is reasonable and does a good job buy a rabbitair.

  • Nice review as usual you are dead on regarding the blankety blank thing being difficult to open. Probably the Chinese - English translation. The Xl is made in China. btw mine didn't make a "zap noise". It is overpriced. Should have checked with you first but alas I am stuck with Oreck for the time being.

  • Bought one of these.

Is it only me or does anyone else have a problem sliding the plastic cover back in place after cleaning?. Frustrating as hell.

Also.... is there a good way to clean the cell part other than washing in hot water and suds? Thanks.

  • Thanks alot for your advice. this make up my mind.

  • THANK YOU!! for this video!!...i love people like this that make videos like this, you know for helpin out others & stuff....the world would have been a beter place if everyone was like this guy

  • I have had my Orek for 25 days. I've been telling everyone how pleased I am with it. Yesterday I followed the directions "religiously" because I know how touchy these type of "cells' are. When I replaced the cell later in the day, the red light began to blink. This signifies service is needed. Fortunately the retailer I got it from has 30 day return policy. It's kind of expensive so I don"t want to take a chance.

  • It is normal to hear zapping in any electrostatic air cleaner,it zaps when larger particles are attracted to the collection cell ,if it doesn't zap occassinally it isn't working properly. If the collection cell is dirty it will zap even more. There is no electrostatic air purifier that will never make zapping noises. Also notice he has a dog ,and the cleaner is probably drawing in fur and dander which will make it zap, this guy isn't telling all the fact's.

  • @MrRandyaccess First of all, I do not have a dog. I have a cat. The occasional zap is normal but the constant zap is not normal - and that is stated by Oreck themselves. In reality, I gave this product a pretty generous review all things considered.

  • Exceptional review!

Probably one of the very best predict reviews (on anything) I have elver seen. Very knowledgeable.

    Well done.

  • I was thinking about air purifier lately and just saw the Oreck XL infopub. Xaves511 review does not totally blast the Oreck XL, it seems pretty rational (true or not). As for cleaning, we have to weight cleaning time without air purifier and cleaning with it. Also if you have no air purifier, would it help if you run it let's say only 3 days a week versus having none at all? Any suggestion of alternative or why go for Oreck XL would also be appreciated. ;-)

  • In fact, the ozone level would have to be so high you could not occupy the same room or space that the unit was operating in for more then a few minutes before suffering dried out lungs, burning eyes, dry sore throat and headaches. Also the U.S. E.P.A. does not recommend that humans or animals live in any space that is being flooded with ozone levels that will kill bacteria. This is because these higher levels of ozone can be an irritant to the lungs of people with asthma and lung problems

  • Since the XL uses an electronic grid to capture particles, it generates levels of ozone. The newer ProShield models produce even larger amounts of ozone with its ozone producing ultraviolet light system! Ozone can kill bacteria in spaces but only if the ozone level is very high!

  • systems engineer. i tested thousands of products. the Oreck air cleaner has a tiny motor, a bad bearing, a flimsy fan blade that bends if you move it. the ion wires oxidize and break. i charge Oreck and all who profited from this with mass grand theft & conspiracy to distribute defective products.

it was 500$ (equal to 750$ now, times millions).

  • The truth of the matter is many products sold on infomercials don't meet the pitched claims or worth the investment. Do your homework and research the product you are interested in, BEFORE buying. to avoid disappointment. If the product or the "free gifts for you to keep" sound too good to be true ..... they probably are! That been said, there is a sucker born every day, DON't be one of them.

    Good Luck! :)

  • The lid can be a bitch shoving it back closed again. It takes an art. Shameful, good machine otherwise so far - (four month test and counting).

  • the solution with this machine (wow its overpriced !) would be to buy a 2nd truman cell so you could wash one & install a clean one immediately instead of waiting 24hrs to dry . Thsi would make it $60 more @ $560.... The noise level of the high setting absolutelybeyond unacceptable . Notice they doon't play that loud setting on the infomercial . Quite a con job since it costs $45 to make in china...sorry charlie go by an Alive Air for $299 !!!

  • BEWARE of this air purifier. I bought one and it gives off an absolutely naseauating smell of plastic.....more accurate would be that it smells like a Magic Marker. It ABSOLUTELY REEKS of a heavy plastic like industrial smell. It stinks so much that it gives me a headache. My Ionic Breeze (sharper image) never smelled like this

  • @inkey2 I'm amazed at how bad the comments are about this purifier. I walked into a friends house that had 2 of these running and OMG I couldnt believe how clean the air was and i didnt notice any bad smell. It seriously make my day how awesome the air quality was. When i went back outside it felt terrible lol. Anyways.... I decided to go with a different purifier (my first one) so we'll see what happens.

  • @bigpoppa611 reply.......I have comunicated with "many" people on line about this air purifier. They all told me the same thing.......it smells like someone left the top off a magic marker. I bought one and just cannot use it because it smells so bad, In fact if you live near boston, mass....i'll sell you mine for half price. I just want to get rid of the thing. What I think is happening is that the collector plates are designed too close to the plastic case

  • I rather clean that than have dust in my room

  • @aparicioeric1

If you dont want dust you should be getting a HEPA based purifier, not an electrostatic.

This unit is garbage, my mom fell into the trap and bought one, and yeah, pretty much everything he says is right, and you can get way better MULTI STAGE purifiers for way less money

  • getting on on craigslist for $30!!! WHOA!

  • @Arteolike there is a reason these are selling cheap used......read my other postings

  • Good to know

  • I'm a poor student who doesn't like the smell of my room. I'm inspired right now to get a air filter, but I'm not sure what technology/product I should look into. I'm prepared to spend <150$

I have 2 cats, and I dont have the best air circulation.

  • so is this just a different shaped "Ionic Breeze" machine? Like the old sharper image

  • thank you! I was about to buy one at Canadian Tire for $400. I completely change my mind. It's very noisy and I have to buy a new filter every 90 days like a $136. per year. no

  • thank you

i was about to buy one at canadian tire for 400.

  • I am sorry to tell you but this is as close to a legal scam ad you can get. This device does next to nothing. You are better off opening your windows and doors for twenty minutes and vacuuming. This is for the desperately lazy. Go to the source of the problem rather than hoping for a miracle. The only consumer air purifier I would ever recommend is the IQair, because it actually does something, even so it has limitations.

  • if you dont clean it for a long time dirt will stick and you cant just wash it you have to soak it

  • i have one of these and when i run it it stinks so bad i have to turn it off

  • @smw381st same thing with mine....it absolutely stinks of plastic when i run it......gives me a headache. What a waste of money

  • It took mine a month before it started to zap a bit but once cleaned its working great again.

  • I agree with everything he said! Right on! Product not worth it's price, and the air still smells the same!

  • Funny because tests showed that this unit actually produces ozone (O3) which is a respiratory irritant, despite claims that the unit removes the latter.

  • Did you notice this produced a kind of chemical smell in the room? Or is it just cleaned air I am smelling?? :-)

  • Lots of misinformation here, folks, do some actual research and go to an Oreck store to check them out. The review this gentleman posts does not accurately reflect true usage, and it is made clear that his bias towards the Sharper Image products overpowers his ability to objectively review this unit.

  • @rdmerck If I were so partial to the Sharper Image model, why didn't I have it set up side by side? Also, Sharper Image is out of business. And, as of today, I still stand by this review. The unit is mediocre and overpriced and overpitched.

  • @Xaves511 What air purifier/ionic unit would you recommend is the best for the price? Thank you -Bdon

  • @Xaves511 hey sir, i am looking for an air purifier and was almost looking to get the new oreck plus. after watching your review which i think is completey accurate and understandable. i would like to know what you think of the newer version. also i would like to know what air purifier you would reccomend that is pretty small and still good and also removes odors with carbon pre filter. but most importantly should be quiet efficient and smaller on size. thank you very much sir.

  • @rdmerck What misinformation, if anything the reviewer is being modest about how crappy the performance of this unit is. For the money you spend on this unit you could easily buy an Austin Air HM400 which actually works very well or nearly any of the Rabbitair series of purifiers. An air purifier that only claims to handle one recirculation per hour is junk my friend. This thing wont handle 300 square feet let alone 900, junk utter junk.

  • i have an oreck xl professional and for those of you who wants to buy an air purifier do some research to know what best suits your needs. personally i think my oreck is expensive for the use. i now use HF-380 and a HF-280. it has more technologies in it in an affordable price. if i had the researched before buying my oreck i wouldnt have chosen it. anyway, im still using it till it breaks.

  • The Oreck Professional unit is pure crap. The blower uses cheap sleeve bearings, and lasts about two years. Not something you want on a "professional" product. Avoid it! Nothing but problems for me, and certainly not for a device pitched as premium quality.

  • Mine lasted three months before breaking. AFter the hassle of getting it replaced stopped working two months later. I bought it in 2003, perhaps they came a long way but I remember the price being like 300usd

  • just bought an oreck air x 2 and it has helped my lad with asthma straight away

  • What's the name of the opening song? Where can I get it?

  • Not the most accurate review.

I clean mine once the red light indicator is lit (every 2-3 months or so).

I paid $570 for 2 in 2008. He should unplug the unit before opening it (standard operating procedure for electronics). If he gets electrocuted will he blame Oreck?

  • I have a IFD Environizer that works on the same principle. It is very quiet and I have to clean it once a month if used non-stop. I paid only 100$.

  • Do not buy it!!! All three of mine are broke. It makes tooo much noises and it's super expensive.

  • The comercial says it converts ozone into pure oxygen... totally stupid, ozone is pure oxygen, it's a O3 molecule...

  • @Aetrion

Nooo... pure oxygen would be O. O2 is oxygen gas, O3 is ozone.

  • there's also a smaller Holmes $60 air purifier sold at Wal Marts (they have expensive filters, though)

  • i bought the Oreck XL purifier "refurbished" for $230 and used it a short time. It started to zap and i brought it to a new Oreck store a year later, after thinking i was frauded. They cleaned the Truman filter and has since worked great without the zapping noise. Havent cleaned it yet because it hasnt zapped yet.

  • Thanks. I need reviews like this.

Have you reviewed other models other than this and the Sharper Image Hybrid?

I need one that can possibly kill mold spores.

  • I have two Oreck xl in my home....LOVE THEM!!!

I have never had a zap or any noises...I clean the screen every two months or so. I guess I was one of the lucky ones that got the ones checked by quality control ...lol.

    Also, I don't have animals.

  • this looks like just a square version of the ionic breeeze. The ionic breeze is really easy to clean out

  • well i have the sharper image hybrid GP, i think that i works great but, does this air purifier needs to be in a well ventilated area, because of the ozone emissions? o i can put it in a room without windows or something like that?

  • more information about air purifier..

  • I got mine at a yard sale in the box for $20! It only popped once when I first turned it on, and once when I blew smoke into it, but that was a dumb idea :). I think it works great so far. The high fan setting is pretty loud though. Other than that, no complaints!

  • Isnt the 'truman cell' just a fancy name for a HEPA filter?! considering they do the same thing?!

  • been running my oreck xl pro for a month, no popping. :)

  • Have an older Oreck works fine. Bought a new cell, its been running for a week no poping, big difference in my room with the Oreck.

  • go to the paint store and get some dust masks for $2, then re wash them.

You just saved thousands if you consider the time value of money. Buying things off tv is for dumb people who dont know what the term "after tax dollars means"

  • I bought an ionic breeze tower and it has the same problems just sucks at purifying the air more and doesn't get rid of odors at all. I'd rather have an oreck that zaps but does its job than an ionic breeze that zaps and doesn't do anything. Probably gonna pick up the Oreck and try it out

  • I have 4 Oreck Pro Shield Plus purifiers in my home and absolutely love them. We have 2 small children and constantly battled sinus infections and colds. Have not had either since we started using them. Very easy to clean (every 30 to 45 days) and they run silently. I highly recommend them.

  • Bought mine for $300 CA at Costco. I'm happy with it so far. Used it for two months on medium speed 24/7 before it started sparking a lot and needed cleaning. I like the way it makes the air smell when the ionizer is on. Kinda like after a rain storm.

  • Thanks for the details and save me from those insane time and frastration. I suppose I am better off buy a honeywell or bionaire from hardware store. cheaper.

  • excellent video every thing u said is true, and sometime it takes more than two days for the truman cell to get dry .

  • Excellent video!

Unless you could get them on Cr. List for $100.00 or so?

  • I own 2 orecks that run at all times in my home. It is absolutley amazing what kind of dirt/lint/filth that comes out of the re-usable washable t-cell. You cant deny that the oreck doesnt work as advertised because Ive seen the grime that comes out of it after cleaning. My son had severe allergies, which since running the oreck, hes had hardly a problem at all. Not too mention I barely see any dust in the house, and we all rarely ever even get sick with colds anymore. I love it.

  • They work quite well, but they are notorious for having improperly lubricated fan shaft bearings. I lubricated mine with Cooper gear grease #45-9850.

  • if your cleaning stuff out of it... it must be working... your cleaningstuff out of it that came from the air going through it... if it didnt get dirty.. it wouldnt be working...????

  • its "zapps" because your house is full with cats and loaded with dust . i got the same one on e-bay a year ago for $120 .

mine work p-e-r-f-e-c-t , i live in a house that the floor is all tile ,

i dont need to dust the t.v or the end table . this is an excellent machine . ( if your house is clean it will NOT zapp ) .

thanks for wasting 8 minutes of my life .

  • Hi lindoflorida. While I do have 3 cats, my house is not loaded with dust. Plus, the commercial encourages people to buy this who have pets and allergies. If your house is perfectly clean - why get an air purifier? That's my question. The review is accurate and I stand by it. I wish I could say differently but I cannot.

  • hi again

i purchase this item to avoid the dust on the furniture .

makes it easier to clean less .

there is HUGE different without this air purifier in the house , thts why its such a good item .

take care & say hi to your cats .

  • you defended yourself greatly. i think the review was great. you save me $500 dollars

  • Don't even think a bout buying it. i have one and it's noisy and keeps making zapps noise like the video said just imagine u are sleep and in the middle of the night a loud zapping noise , and by the way my apartment is very clean and i don't have any animals.

  • @Xaves511 yo wuts good wit it Xaves wut it do foo? how u been in da scene cracka jack slim?

  • @lindoflorida your so right

  • Got mine 24 hours ago on ebay, a used and original model prior to the design in the video. I could tell how amazing it was from the 1st 5 minutes. I ran it in my front room for 6 hours then moved it to my room overnight and it cleaned the air better than they described on TV and better than I could imagine. I have a 2nd used and original model coming in soon from ebay and that one come with 4 new charcoal filters. Between the 2 units I will have running 24/7 the filters should last 2 years.

  • for cleaning 900 sq ft of air 5 times an hour it is not as loud as you might think and no where near as loud as you over exaggerate about in your video. It is perfectly fine to have it on high all day then turn it to medium when you sleep, the noise will not interfere with anything. Everything you say is so annoying, "I can't open it, I can't clean it" well what can you do? And this "3 days" nonsense takes the cake. Who is actually going to believe the Truman Cell is all used up in 3 days? Nick

  • @ebodusa Nick: I reported what I experienced. Oreck suggest to leave the unit on medium for best results. The loudness of the unit is not nearly the problem as is the ZAPPING noises it makes - almost immediately upon turning it on. And, I was unable to open the cover of the first unit I got. They replaced it for free - but the lid hinges broke. Obviously, a known issue as they gave me no pushback in replacing it.

I stand behind the review given on this video.

  • @lindoflorida While he does not totally praise the unit, Xaves511 is not saying that it does not work at all. Not as bad a review as some of you guys claim it. He might even like the unit to some extend, but voiced that he suggest an alternative as he feels it is better. He says what he likes and what he expects. For me, even if after 3 days it need cleaning, it might be fine. It depends how long it takes cleaning and actually do I need to always have it on? I don't have any actually anyway.

  • i was soo close to buy it thatnk you..

  • Plus, the filters for it should be replaced every two months.

  • Can find them on ebay for lot less then $500, today I found few for $130-155. I had one from sharper image, didn't notice did much and gave away to smoker friend and the thing was zapping like crazy!

  • I have two Oric pro plus..I paid $399 off tv and got second one half price...because they do not have any fine filter they do not work as well as ones with heppa filters...easy to prove..I did it!...creat dust in front of your Oric shake out a floor mat or what ever you have dusty..the dust will go in oric and come right out the rear vents just as dusty..do the same with a cheap walmart one with a filter and no dust comes back out..however you will need a new $30 filter!..

  • Thanks so much.

I have the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze which barely even moves the air so it doesn't clean much. I was thinking about getting the Oreck XL, but now if I do get a new air purifier I'll be sure to get t he Sharper Image Hybrid.

  • yes, i bought one I regret after i received it to see the invoice 838.80 what they say when i talk to them is only 200 plust he 35.20 risk trial which is lie.. i have organized to return my oreck a soon as i can..

  • omg i was about to get one but i see that they hide many things in the comercial like price lmao i mena i didnt know it was 400 on their web page. well staying away from that

  • Truly excellent video, I was going to buy this oreck, but after watching this video, I won't anymore, because how they show on tv, there are hidden stuff, that they don't want you to know.

Thank you for saving my money

  • After trying so many of these crappy machines, I finally ended up with the IQAir HealthPro Plus. Long story short, it's the ONLY way to go!!! No more red eyes, no congestion at night, and nearly no dust on furniture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • for $500, the Orek should have little janitors living in it that clean it 24/7 so that it doesn't have so much down time. Good video.

  • The Oreck is crap...I bought the Aliveair because of the video on youtube about it.

  • very helpful, thanks.

  • be careful w/ this thing people..i used air dust to clean the back fan after about 5 months of dust build-up on it. i unplugged the power and let it sit for about 20min before i turned it back on and it still shot out flames like a fireball, from the air dust. oddly enough the unit still works though. i wont use that to clean it again, but the back fan is such a pain in the ass to clean besides taking the whole thing apart! fan on high is very noisy. other than that no complaints here.

  • Flames?? I hope you dont leave that thing on at night while you're sleeping... you dont want to burn

  • i've had my unit for over two years. i heard the zapping at first, but then it decreased. i would assume that at first (especially if you've never had an air purifier in the room) there is more dust for the machine to collect. a trick i learned from the local oreck store is if you take a small paintbrush or q-tip, lightly (NO PRESSURE) stroke them along the wires. the dirtier they are, the more zapping you here. this actually worked. i only have to clean mine once a month and it's been awesome

  • I have been using Oreck for the past 10 yeas and have enjoyed what it does . it zaps when the level of dust and air flow increases due to a major door being opened and dust from outside gets into the room. I have had no problems with it and the carbon filter does not require to be changed every three days at all and I have yet to change them . If you are using it in a very dirty or poluted environment then you may have this problem in which case you should be using the commercial tower model.

  • I just purchase the table top Orect XL pro and thinking about returning it because the minute I put it on it started zapping and my house is clean very clean no dogs or cats neither.I bought just to purify the air I breathe...but i heard the motor breaks alot and bearings...

  • Mine was the same way when I first got it. It stops after a while. The reason it does this is because your air is so filthy and full of bacteria. I have 2 dogs and 1 cat and I have asthma so this thing stays on 24/7 and it is a lifesaver!

  • If its zapping that soon its not normal. My XL stays on 24/7 and will start to zap after about a month on the medium speed. I let it sit in a sink full of soapy water, rinse it off, let it air dry on the dish rack for an hour and its back in business. I only bought mine because it was a reman on clearance for $100 but its been working like a champ for 2 years now and I just left the charcoal filter out after it stopped doing anything.

  • Thank you very much ^^. This is the information I wanted to hear and to find out the price (that they dont tell on the infomercial). I'm going to hunt around for a more cost friendly and more effective purifier. Thanks again ^.~

  • I enjoyed your review and you have excellent talent in your speaking. I bought an Oreck XL and removed the charcoal filter to see if the unit removes odor without it. It does removes odors without the filter. My XL works very nicely so far. The Truman cell was easy to remove. Only had it for 1 day thus awaiting for the zapping. Would be nice to you post a review of a Sharper Image. You would make an excellent salesman with your straight forward sincere style. Keep well and thanks!

  • Good job on this review Xaves...I am thinking of doing a review for the tower. I do think that Oreck's product are way over priced, especially now they are making them in China as opposed to good old USA. They are selling the tower for $599.99 (actually costs under $100.00 to make). Oreck is coming out with a new Air Purifier, hence why they are pushing current stock with all these promotions. The new machine will be called the "Gemini" and is suppose to be better then the current tabletop.

  • I bought an oreck air purifier and quite frankly i have experienced no issues what so ever. It does what is descriibed well and i think it was well worth the price so far. I dont know how on earth you could think that opening the front hatch would difficult or how you could of broken it. Im not sure why your unit was zapping but I have not experienced that either, and I live in a college dorm so you could imagine how dirty it gets. Also I just cleaned my unit and it dried in about an 1.5 hours

  • Joshua- doesn't really seem like you know what your talking about my man! Never has a Truman cell dried in 1.5 hours- now that is a joke. The table tops are ineffective, overpriced, badly designed and not that effective. I currently have 2 towers and 1 table top (which does not work well).

The table top works great for a couple of days, then the "arching" occurs constantly. The crisp air smell starts to vanish. Basically this machine is an air pusher!!!!

Buy the tower and buy an extra cell!

  • I just returned my oreck. Just like the man said. Worked good for a few days, if that, and then started to zap. cleaned it, waited forever to dry. Started it back up again. Here it goes again, after one day, back to zap, zap, zap. Cleaned it again. Tryed this for 4 weeks. Could not take it anymore. Returned it to the store. Still looking for a good unit. Needs to clean 700 square feet. Thanks

  • Buy the Oreck tower- I have two if them- for 1100 sq ft works amazing- I probably could use just one, but since I have a cat, I feel that one on each side of the room helps the flow!!! I would recommend buying an extra Truman cell so when you clean one the other is ready to go. I find the towers work amazing- the tabletop not so good. I promise I do not work for Oreck, but have been buying them for years. I know right now if you buy a tower- you get the table top for free- hope this helps.

  • dude... dont bad talk me man.... I wash it shake it to get the excess water off and let it dry on a towel... Just did it today... couple hours and dry...

  • Josh,

Not bad talking you man...I wouldn't recommend putting it on a towel- it can rust that way. I would recommend however to put the cover on the table top and let the collector cell dry over that. Just make sure you shake it out- like you mentioned. I always have a back-up so I can switch and let the just cleaned cell sit for 2-3 weeks before I use it again- I use t put it on a towel, but noticed they were rusting, so I would do it the way I mentioned above or put it on a dish rack.

  • I just got my Oreck XL Air purifier at Canadian Tire the other day, for under 160.tax included.I bought it for my sons room...who has asthma and exzema... We dont have house pets or nor do we smoke....but right away I noticed a difference...his room smells so much fresher and his exzema is disappearing.I fell asleep in his room the other night and I slept like a baby. I havent heard the zapping that Xaves discribes, but this coming from a smoke free pet free home :)

  • I purchased mine today at Canadian Tire for $139.00!

  • No amount of Ground level Ozone makes the air healthier. The Ionic Breeze and the Oreck both produce Ozone. The Ozone guard grill is s gimmick. The Ionic Breeze still has a strong smell of Ozone coming out of it. I never used an Oreck, but if you can smell a bleach smell from it, then Ozone gas is still being produced. Read the EPA's website concerning Ozone producing air cleaners. Stick with HEPA filter air cleaners.

  • You do not need to wash the units every 3 days! I wash mine once a month when the red light is on. I only paid $300...and the charcoal is replaced once a year for $50....some serious miss information here! I love mine and have noticed a huge difference. I don't even take my allergy medication anymore! The people who sold me the unit even took a half hour to make sure I knew just how to operate it:) I'm so glad I found this unit I'm going to bye another one for my bedroom.

  • I stand by my review. Regarding changes in price and whatever else Oreck may have chosen to reword, as of the date of this review, June 7th, 2007 - those were the facts. Price may have come down by now but the product is still the same.

  • the zapping noises is probably from your cat..... cat fur floating around....then getting pulled in by the electrical force that the oreck is putting out and then "ZAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" cat fur zapage dude

  • Just got a cat two weeks ago and have had my towers over two years...and let me tell you, I have always heard the zapping. The towers are not as bad as the tabletops, but still obvious.

  • ur lucky, I've always wanted one, but too poor to buy one, especially now.

  • You must live in a bubble...the machine will zap after 3-5 days no matter what!!! I have 2 towers and a table top and I clean it every 2 weeks without a doubt. This is a good review on the product. The charcoal should be replaced every 6 months (even if you are not smoking by the machine- I am not a smoker). And as for the red light- that rarely ever comes on and if it does- your machine was most definitely zapping!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on- lets be real with these reviews, must work for Oreck.

  • I saw the infomercial tonight and they got me. Tough resisting them. They are masters at what they do. I did have the sense to check reviews first and am glad I came upon your video. Saved me lots of money. Thanks.

  • I did a particle test on these "Boat Anchors", that's all they're good for. The room had a particle content of 1280 ppm (microns), when the sensor was placed near the air flow opening the meter shot up to ocer 2000!!! JUNK!!

  • LOL it is amazing how the add makes this seem like a great breakthrough that is a must have!

Thank you for the informative review. I am steering away from this one.

  • These units SUCK I own 2 and wish i never bought them.

  • I was dumb enough to buy 2 of these units and let me tell ya they are noisy, hard to clean and one is starting to squeal (sounds like bad bearings).

Customer Service is a joke, even with invoice IN HAND they could not FIND me as a customer, after messing around via email and phone I gave up after many frustrated attempts to deal with the company.

Wish I never would have bought them the more I read online, GOD I hope I run into David Oreck oneday somewhere...

  • Thanks for the detailed review. I was almost ready to order one, but will continue my searching.

  • I've tried S.I and oreck models,I wasn't impressed with any, plus I found returning the sharper image one was harder,Oreck took it back no questions asked, the rep at Sharper image charged me return shipping.Good review but you should have compared it next the sharper image model, and showed how much dust each model picked up.

  • the zapping sound means that the collecor plates are doing their job and need to be cleaned. The more dirty the air the sooner they start zapping. These only start zapping when they need cleaning. This is why I like the "IONIC BREEZE" It has just two large collector plates and you can take a damp paper towel to them. I'm sure the company is just covering themselves about letting it dry a day because there is always some idiot that will put it back in "soaking wet". I never wait, just put it in

  • This guy is 100% no nonsense and a "tell-it-like-it-is" person.

Imagine what the world would be like if everyone was "no nonsense" and "tell-it-like-it-is." The world would be a lot better, but then unfortunately crooks like David Oreck would not be able to make any money.

    LOL

  • Your video was amazing and very big help! But if only i saw this video before i purchased TWO orecks. well at least i can make better decisions in the future! =)

  • This video was Very helpful, i bought 2 Ionic Pro Turbo's. Which work very well and is very similar to the Ionic Breeze. They are extremely silent and get the job done. Not the best in Air Purification, but it's effective and alot cheaper.

  • Isn't it a good thing that you have to clean it often (collects lots of dust and cat hairs)? You will get a lot of cat hairs in your purifier so it doesn't surprise me. You should also vacuum frequently if you have cats.

  • The Ionic Breeze Hybrid you mention.......any additional charcoal or other costly filters that need frequent replacement? I too have several cats & a family member has asthma & allergies so I'm looking for a product that may alleviate some of the allergens in the air in my home.

  • I'm actually looking at this right now and thought it sounded great 'till I saw your video. I have a few questions. First off, this must be an older model as it is selling right now for $179 and looks a little different. Second, do you think with "a few cats" maybe it needed to be cleaned so quickly for the first few times, as it was cleaning the backlog of dirty air (if you know what I mean) or R U still having to do that? @$179 it seems like a great deal. What R your thoughts?

  • thanks for the important information I'm going to sharper image!

  • I was very close to buying this filter until I watched this review. Thank you.

I am looking at this Blue Air filter right now.

  • First of all the filter costs 49.99. You would have to be pretty dumb to think that the cell would not need to be dry before puting it in. It is an electric cell (Water and electricity do not mix) If you have to clean yours every 3 days, you must live in a nasty house. And Price? I guess Orecks not for poor people!?

  • rbunns: prices have changed since the making of this video. Are still high. It's not a matter of being dumb with regards to the electric cell - it's that the advertising is misleading. For uninterrupted air purification, you'd have to buy a seperate cell. They NEVER mention that. My household is average. I have a few cats. If this product can't handle that, why on Earth would anybody have any need for it? If I had a perfectly clean home and air quality, I would not have purchased it.

  • Awesome, I live in hawaii so the air isn't so bad but my grandparents room is pretty dusty so we just hot an ionic breeze hybrid and it is totally awesome. We have 4 ionic breeze pro GPs and 2 hybrids and like you said here, they are WAY BETTER than this like u said.

  • The guy spoke too highly of this piece of crap. I had to clean the one I received after just 3 hours. Even after cleaning it, it still zapped about every minute. Returned. Take a look at RabbitAir. I'm looking at that next. I expected Oreck's aircleaner to be an awesome product. It was a POS!

  • I got mine for $199 (refurbished but good as new) and it works great. The lid slides on and off easily. I clean the filter about every two weeks (I don't have pets). The filter only takes a few hours to dry in a warm house. The odor absorber does not need to be replaced ever 3 months as indicated in the video (at least on my unit). A nice purifier at a great price.

  • the "odor absorber plus" filter is $49 for the xl pro table top unit. the 3 in 1 "pdpr absorber" for the xl pro purifier costs $45. the xl tabletop purifier costs $350, with a get the 2nd one half off deal. also, i have read many complaints on the xl air purifier.

  • wow im so glad i didnt buy this! I was going too because the commericial looked really good but never mind!

  • I've been suckered into just about everything Oreck and it's all cheap junk. Dave O has made a fortune marketing.. if you pay more it must be good. Had the XL Pro and the zapping and cleaning wore me out. Cleaning the grid is a nightmare being careful not to break the wires. Used the dishwasher but the black gunk still sticks. You can buy a special cleaner for it of course. CR rates it very poorly as do all the sites reviewing air purifiers. Hepa and charcoal seem to be the best way to go.

  • thx for that comment, i was almost about to get one. ya i ended up getting the ionicpro with the blade easy to clean. i think they all work the same, i just hate to buy filters

  • I have the Oreck XL Pro. Got this same model reviewed. After three weeks I am doing no dusting and the air is noticeably fresher. There is no popping or zapping as described, before or after my first cleaning. Happy with the XL myself. Respectful, but skeptical about this review.

  • I think your unit is not working if its not zapping it suppose to do that when dust passes through.I just receive mine and its zapping but once in a while

  • Why dont u build an Professional Air Purifier mask fir the troops that are breathing in dust everday?????????

  • Hi, I just want to know, what is the best, Ultimate purificator if the Oreck one is not?

Is the Sharper Image Hybrid is just a contentment?

  • The odor asorber has to be changed once a year. The unit cost $349 and buy one get one half off. I love mine I clean it about every three weeks. Hardly ever zaps. If your house is dirty then it zaps alot. Oreck sells quality product and I support them cause it is made in Cookeville, TN. They are not taking our jobs over seas. My air cleaner helped my allergies ALOT!! I dont agree totally with what you said. Is your house clean of dust? Or do you let it just sit on your tables?

  • Thanks for posting, bdenise710. I vacuum and clean on a weekly basis. I have to because I have 4 cats. However, this product is marketed for this type of environment and simply does not deliver. Oreck does make good products. Vacuum cleaners. That's about it. And even they, in my opinion, are overpriced. Also, I paid close to $500 for my unit at the time I purchased it. It's been reduced in price now - by quite a bit. Makes you wonder how they can do that?

  • This is so rigt!!!. I have two and I have to clean them to much. The zapping sound are terrible!! I even have put a washable filter in front Hoping the would help to catch the big paricle and that would help with the zapping. Has worked longer on one but the other one starts to zap in two days. Should of check things out before. I got sucked in.

  • Electro-static air purifiers suck. Put a particle scanner to the output of the Oreck filter and it would fail miserably. Hyper hepa is the ONLY WAY. Search on YouTube; IQAir. Watch the particle scanner video and the results speak for themselves.

  • We also purchased the Oreck and it zapps all the time and drives you crazy. I've cleaned it and cleaned it and still zaps. Also beware of the electrik broom (free gift). I told my husband if I ever buy anything off an info commercial again, just hit me over the head. Good bye Oreck...

  • Got a question, you ever heard of the Fresh Air Machine?

  • I'm sorry. I can't say that I have ever heard of the Fresh Air Machine.

  • DAmn Thanks for the info man! I always thought this thing would work, i Guess it's a Lie. $500!!! Damn that way over price.

  • It's not 500. It's about $330 and that's tax included. Plus, you get a free refrigerator purifier and a vacuum cleaner. You can also return it within 60 days, doesn't have to cost you anything. I just bought one so I'm just gonna see how it's like, if not, yay free gifts.

  • You are correct. It is NOW selling for about $350. Big drop from when I purchased mine. Makes one think of how much lower it can go and how much it actually costs them to make these things. I can honestly say that the refrigerator purifier does virtually nothing. I threw it away already. And the free vacuum lasted me about 2 months and then the motor went out on it. In the garbage as well. I have a stand, upright Oreck vacuum that I love and have had for years. But the free one? Junk.

  • Really? Yeah, I'm kind of regretting it. Well, at least I get a full refund. I should have researched before jumping the gun. The evil of infomercials I tell you. Just that ever since I got this cat, my allergies are killing me...esp. when it lives in room since my parents hate it. So I guess I'm just desperate. Thanks. Yeah I have a Oreck vacuum and it's good. So I assumed this would be too.

  • They give you 30 day not 60 I just got through talking to them to send mine back..

  • Like stated above go by an oreck store and try one for yourself before you Believe everything you hear on the Internet.. I got mine on a 60 day trial.. Yes you pay up front but if you dont like it they will fork up a full refund..

  • Wow, 2 posts and 2 videos watched? Lmao, Oreck rep eh?

  • Sharper Image tried to sue consumer reports because they put a bad report on the ionic breeze.. Well Sharper image lost the lawsuit because It was indeed emmiting too much ozone.. Everyone tried to drag oreck into this because they do use simular techonology but where unsucsessfull..

  • The product review I gave is sincere and reflected my opinion. The biggest issue I have with Oreck's unit is the loud "zapping" noise it makes. You cannot deny that. Sharper Image's Hybrid unit does not.

  • hows the oreck vacum i want to get one for my mother

  • Very Honest
