  • All guys sound the same in old musicals

  • He is not singingbut synching - look Wikipedia re Carmen Jones. Therefore NOT A MODEL for diaphragmatic breathing.

  • Yeh, we worked that one out below OperaFan. Harry Belafonte can sing though!

  • The voice is quite good for me but the technic of breath is incorrect as the chest and the breast are moving together.

  • I though just fat people could sing like that

  • Is this why he can hardly talk today?

  • Wow.

    He is onnnnneee shiny man!!

  • what movie is this from?

  • Carmen Jones

  • No he doesn't. He shows how to breath into the back using the ribcage muscles! As a matter of fact, he squeezes his entire chest when he starts his sound, which is in grave error. Nothing against his wonderful tone, though.

  • Surely you know there are many schools of thought on breath support? There are no 'errors'.

  • Nice tan

  • great voice--too bad he sided with chavez against the country that made him rich and famous

  • Chavez v a country? Bizarre.

  • :( no one sings like that anymore

  • Yeah Mr Belafonte can sing.

  • Man u gotta watch his stomach everytime he starts a new phrase his stomach tightens up i didnt know why i was lookin at harry belafonte sing either then i thought about the title how to use your diaphragm and i was like oh ok and i just looked at how his stomach moved everytime he sung a new phrase

  • that was a total waste, he just sings, theres no "how to" in it. . . .

  • @MsRandomness14 Breath in low to up push ur stomahc out a bit well ur doing it ! not too much then from there ur gonnah look fat lol then simply move ur stomach in a bit that loosens ur diaphragm and sing away .. if ur doing it right ur stomach will start moving in ...make sure after you take the breathe you push ur stomach in just micro seconds before you start to sing ... ive been everywhere learning about singing from the diaphram and no one tells you the right away but this is a proven way

  • @Chaos2285 they always go on about this and that ... hey once you take that breathe and push in ur stomach a lil bit and i mean a lil bit you wanna think of a leak in a ballon and then it's going to deflate .. then just sing and dont tighten ur stomach or nothing because then you will just constrict what air is coming out for you to sing with have a good time singing

  • Killer voice, and i listen to Death metal.

  • gay

  • lmao this is funny

  • watch his stomach noobs its showing you better than you can see

  • I dont why but the first time i watched this i was like ok its a guy singing and you can see hows he doing it and learn now i seen it and broke out laughing hahaha

  • ahahahaha.. puro oil!!!!

  • whoh, severe sunburn

  • very nice

  • Too Bad... It's not Belafonte's voice!!!!!

  • So glad you shared that. I snickered and decided not to. Happy New Year

  • @clkrealtor THANK YOU!!!

  • can you now scream?

  • I'm sorry... i gave you a thumbs down because I don't like screaming... it hurts your voice, i have to be careful with my voice because i am thinking on going on american idol next month. :) sorry about the comment though. :(

  • @Catituie23

    It's okeay :D

  • It is not hurting your voice,if your using your diaphragm...the first tries at Screaming will take your voice away a little time,so that your vocal chords will get used to screaming, and your throat to that huge amount of vibrations...then,no problem with it,it won't hurt,it won't damage and it will sound cool....If your signing from your throat, you will cause SEVERE damages to yourself..

  • wtf he only sings i still have know idea how to use my diafghrm yai know i spelled that wrong who cares.

  • flower song from carmen

english version but seriously can't take lessons from a black guy they seem to have their own blessing from god as it matters in singing issues

    give me a break :(

  • watch how he breaths stupsV

    V

    Vl ol

  • That's one mighty big 'all' though!

  • whwere is the helping part i still dont get how t sing with the diaprham

  • lol he's shiny

    really helpful video btw :D

  • ROFL helpful tho

  • i still dont get how though how do i do that im confused

  • Stand with your heels two inches from a wall with both bottom and shoulder blades touching it. Tuck in your tail as in the Psoas favourite to flatten your whole spine against the wall. Feel the pulling tension a few inches below your navel. Take a small step away from the wall, still feeling the tension. Woof like the dog barking favourite and feel the tension below the navel expand throughout your whole pelvis (notice it happening in the dog's pelvis).

  • Once you've got it, only hold your tail in by 1 millimeter.Feel a constant expansion throughout your pelvis as you sustain a woof - as in woooooooooooooooooof.

  • Make sure the woof is from your lowest notes i.e. from the chest.

  • Thank you! :)

  • lol! this is so funny, but SO VERY helpful :)

  • Ok, this tells me how to sing with my diaphragm, how? He's singing, not explaining

  • You've never heard, a song is worth a thousand words?

  • Look at his stomach, He is clearing showing how to breath :) Just imitate his breathing.

  • young version of the rock?

  • lmfaoo nice omfg my lungs

  • wtf i dont get it im 11 and i need to learn how to sing with my diaphragm i NEED TO I HAVE TO I HAVE TO I HAVE TO NO VIDEO HELPS I DONT GETTT IT HEELLP ME PLEASE!

  • Maybe you should start by not being 11.

  • yea a lotta ppl say i sing thru my nose...i dnt kno wut that means and i dnt kno how to not sing thru my nose

  • A lot of pop singers do. You really need a one-to-one teacher. Realize that when you talk/sing about 10% of the sound is emitted from your nose. Singing is about playing with that balance. Don't do it consciously though, it's about knowing a beautiful sound when you hear it.

  • thank you =]

  • In my singing class they told me the same thing, that I sing nasaly. They told me to sing from the back of my throat. I just pictured it and did it. It does sound different.

  • omg so beautiful!!!!!!!! almost bropught tears to my eyes :.)

  • i agree it so powerful

  • I got it............loud and clear thanks to the video by the way

  • now that just changes everything...... :P

  • nice!.. now when does the lesson start!?!?!

  • I think you missed it!

  • LMFAO

  • Remember people. YOu don't sing from Diaphram but sing with the diaphram. because diaphram can not make a sound but your vocal chords do.

  • It's not a science it's an art. You actually sing from your toes.

  • nice. well put.

  • LeVern Hutcherson was the singer, according to IMDB.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for the research. That's fascinating.

  • Sadly, according to my research, Harry Belafonte's voice wasn't good enough, so this was dubbed over by an Opera singer. Still a good illustration of the diaphragm, but not actually him singing as far as I know.

  • lmfao nicely done

  • he is usin it

  • oh mercy...this is my new inspiration.alongside Vandross..

  • well he IS using his diaphragm.

  • why so shiny?

  • lol lol baby oil?

  • brilliant illustration of how to use the diaphagm, ive seen so many videos of teachers with their hands on their bellys trying to explain how do this, and you´ve given us a real shiny bronze artist in action... well thats cleared that mystery up once and for all

  • Check out the dog barking for lesson 2.
