  • remember when we use to race there.....wow...

  • I remember this. i use to pass those tanks on the way to school in green point an was always amazed by them, i was sad when they imploded them. also how weird is it that you could see the twins towers after the tanks were imploded an just exactly 2 months after the tanks went down that beautiful skyline in manhattan was taken down to, what a shame

  • This is so surreal to watch especially when you take into account what would happen 2 months later that year

  • My father took me to see the tanks implode mad early in da morning. Hey nwcchinalake, I also grew up in ridgewood, queens I lived on 69th AV.

  • Who was using Super 8 Film in 2001? lol

  • When those two towers came down the Brooklyn landscape changed forever.

  • I agree. I remember always seeing those tanks from a distance when I was a kid. I used to love them and used to call them the 'Twin Tanks'.

  • Wow, I didn't think 2001 was THAT long ago :P

  • Sorry guys, this is NOT an implosion, just destroiment :-)

  • east coast west coast brookyln i grew u in ridgewood and i saw it on the news and i knew excatly what they were. i left there at 7 moved to astoria

  • I Grew up with those tanks! Another piece of NYC gone, but not forgotten.

  • same here. i wonder what they did to that space 8 years later

  • I miss them! I used to love them! They should have left them up!

  • I love how people comment about Maspeth. It was just called the Maspeth Holder Tanks because they were situated on Maspeth Av. & Vandervoot in GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN. Not maspeth...

  • A park across the street from the projects. Sounds great.

  • It's going to be a park there now. They are in the process of it right now.

  • i live in maspeth too

no theres going to be a park ..

  • so do i the last thing this town needs is another park or school

  • haha i live in maspeth

  • there's going to be a museum where those tankers are.

  • I remember these, and the Elmhurst gas tanks on Grand ave. too

  • Ahhh good old maspeth.

  • I left Maspeth in 1997, and missed that...but I heard about it. How cool that I could finally see that. They were the markers I always told people I live by "Then you drive on the LIE, I live near the gas tanks."
