the engine is a modified chrysler 2.2L(later modified and used in the dodge neon) used in dodge aries and plymouth reliant power output stock base 2.2 was 100hp i believe or 90hp and 100lbs of tourque,this engine in the spirit R/T is the same 2.2 but Turbocharged Intercooled DOHC 16Valve modified 2.2L and makes 224hp stock and 217 lbs of tourque (more than any crappy honda back then and today and bmw!)
@Captainbob25202000 no. The base 2.2l put out 84hp/111lbs in it's first year when it was a carb. When it was fitted with TBI, then is was 93hp/123lbs. (in most applications. Some have a different setup with 99hp/121lbs)

these cars are AWSOME..... 1991 motorweek got 15.1 @ 97 right outa the box,,,WTF???? thats smokin for an early 90s car,, especially a compact commuter , lol,, i want one
@IRONSEAN7 buddy owned one, said it was NOT awesome. Horrible torque-steer, suspension and brakes couldn't keep up w/performance, and engine came unglued at 71k.

I don't want to dismiss the spirit RT dohc I know that those cars were very fast with lotus engine parts and getrag and aftermarket parts like boostcontrol installed and bigger turbos but that l BMW looks like a 328 coupe sport e36 not an M3 maybe Im wrong but seems to be that.

the Dodge Spirit is truly a shitty car with no cornering ability and awful brakes.
well dude its a fucking family sedan, of course it wont handle as well as that beamer, its not in the same class,like the taurus sho, but at least you can seat five and still leave a beamer in the dust
Yeah but definitely not fast enough to make up for THAT difference... anyways, the US m3 has a lower geared diff for faster acceleration making up for a lot of the HP difference
