were does it mount on the quad? because on my TRX250r i dont have the bar going acrost the handal bars. so if it mounts there im kinda S.O.L....so..........?
i was thinking about getting one of these kits for a homemade buggy im building. Does it come with everything you need to hook up and go? I saw on some other comments that you need to buy a voltage regulator so you dont fry it??? I dont know much about electronics. Any help is appreciated. Also, I'm using engine from 2001 Buell Blast 500cc due to its simplicity but am not so sure about electrics! It most likely has a voltage regulator already on it that i can hook up vapor to??
@200EliteBlaster No it's not.. when it warms up it idles at a perfect factory rated 1400rpm. All 400ex's are cold blooded. Doesn't matter anyway, I sold the bike a long while back.
The TrailTech? I got mine off motosport. com it was $108 with free express shipping.
Or you can order it directly from trail tech or rocky mountain, but motosport usually has better prices and will meet or beat a price if you find it cheaper elsewhere.
Yes. It goes from the unit and it's just a wire. You take the wire and wrap it around the coil wire that connects to the spark plug like 4 or 5 times, then tape/ziptie the cable so it doesn't move.
Yes. It has a built in battery thats replaceable. It's still fully functional but doesn't have a bright backlight like this one. So you can't see the screen at night.
But other than that its perfectly fine with the built in battery
very helpful video & comments!! I am seriously considering a vapor, but how does it handle mud/water?? would it do fine with offroading/mud? would I have to take it off before I clean my ATV???
Thanks! I've basically covered it with mud and dust before.. and I never had a problem. When I washed my quad, I shot the hose directly at it by accident and it didn't do anything. It stayed on and wasn't affected.
So all in all, a very weather resistant unit! Put about 190 miles on it since it was installed and still functioning 100%
I love it! Its awesome. No problems whatsoever so far. The lights beside "vapor" are shift lights. The first one is the actual shift light, the red one on the right is the where the limiter is. You program them yourself. Right now, I have one set for 6800 and one at 8500. Crusing and shifting. Im gonna change them though, so the red is 9100 for the rev limiter.
Any more questions shoot me a message. id be glad to help.
where do all of the hook ups go? does it light up so u can read it at night? does it ever freeze for a second or anything cuz i have heard a couple of problems with freezing unless they just got some shitty ones!! Thanks!
Well, one hookup goes to the battery. This powers the unit and backlight. The backlight stays on the whole time you ride if its connected to the battery. Really bright. Then the tach wire wraps around the ignition wire a couple times. Right above the part that slides onto the spark plug. Usually about 5 wraps is good then tape it with electrical tape or zip tie. The speedo takes a little more work. Will continue in another comment so I have more room.
You have to drill a hole in the caliper to mount the pickup on the speedometer. It comes supplied with a self tapping screw, you just need to drill it the correct size so it follows a path. Then you replace one of the bolts on the rotor with the one they supply. It;s magnetic so the pickup can read it. then run it up to the handlebars. You need to set the correct tire size. The book will help explain that they provide.
how does the vapor work i want one to check the speeds of my quad and mabey hook it to my budduies and test theres but every1 says if they evn get the slightest bit wit they break :/
For the tachometer, the wire just wraps around the spark plug wire. The heat senson replaces the crush washer on the spark plug, but I don't trust that set-up because it's air-cooled.

how doese it read ur temp.? mine just has the dots like that all the time. any info would be great... thanks
worktildeath 1 year ago
@worktildeath the dots means it has to be reset, it will detect all the sensors and get rid of the dots
Kartmofo 1 year ago
so if i got one of them trail tech things all u have to do is mount it and wrap a wire around a coil wire? and it tells the rpms and mph>?
yamaha1owner 1 year ago
@yamaha1owner MPH reads off of a sensor connected to the front wheel, rpm reads off of the coil wire
Kartmofo 1 year ago
How does it know how hi you rpm is? Like how does it read it
brandon184839 1 year ago
@brandon184839 It takes a wire that wraps around the coil wire, and senses the pulses of electricity the CDI sends to the spark plug.

yanlapanic 3 years ago
Yeah. i bought the kit from Motosport for $108 with free 3-day express shipping. It came with everything you need and a set of directions.
RideRed5505 3 years ago
turn your idle up a little bit. also how much was the vapor? :D
suzuki400boi 3 years ago
Idle is where it should be. I used the vapor to get correct rpm. The vapor was like $108 shipped with 3 day express shipping.
RideRed5505 3 years ago
if the idle is where it should be it wouldn't be stalling. vapor's sweet tho
suzuki400boi 3 years ago
It's because its cold.
This was before I jetted it and the 400ex's are very cold blooded. Since I jetted it, it starts and idles fine.

nahh, the stock idle is supposed to be 1400rpm. When she's warmed up it does that exactly.
