You're right, we would NOT be better off with Russia/China as the lone top dogs in the world. But I am merely pointing out that what works for one country does not work for others.

Technically, Russia was 'free-er' and had more personal liberties in the 90's under Yeltsin. The result was a total mess-- corruption, crime rates through the roof, and economic hardship. They were not good times. Russia under Putin has seen a resurgence in national pride, stronger economy, and less crime.

@bobshenix You are right, I would just correct you slightly: Putin isnt really a nationalist, hes a patriot, even though nationalism isnt neccesary bad, originally that word meant "love for your nation", while patriotism meant "love for your country(patria)... It changed meanings during dark communist times, so now people usually say "nationalist" as if it was a bad thing.

But other then that, Im really happy that there are people in USA that think like you, that means theres hope after all!

That's a good point you make. An unfortunate consequence of WW2 was that, although Hitler took nationalism to the absolute extreme and needed to be defeated, with the end of the Third Reich came the virtual outlawing of any kind of nationalism in the West. Non-politically correct politicians who are even slightly nationalist are immediately discredited and slandered as "xenophobic racists"... it is created a very counter-productive political scene for many countries.

Take your panties out of a bunch and understand that many media outlets (newspaper, television etc) in the UK have their own biased slant which of course happens to correspond with the attitudes/agendas of the liberal elite and British governing bodies.

Berlusconi has always been involved and had his stakes in Italian media long before starting his political career. There was no insidious coup or conspiracy to seize all media control once taking office, nor has a personality cult been fostered.

Funny, your own opinion is undoubtedly influenced by the strongly anti-Berlusconi media in the UK. Same w/ Putin, most of the propaganda in the UK sways people to dislike and distrust both of them. There are two sides to every story-- i respect Putin and his no-nonsense style.

@bobshenix I haven't heard anything on the news about Berlusconi. It's my own opinion based on facts that I've read. He seized a monopoly on the private sector TV channels in Italy during the 1980s. He also owned a large portion of the press, which he used to launch an election campaign that got him into power. Just shows how fickle people are, right? I'm not saying Putin isn't good for Russia, but he's not democratic. He uses the public broadcast media to get votes, similiar to Berlusconi

The public broadcast network ( BBC ) has a committee preserving it's impartiality.
