Props to SJS. Im gettin through UCSC and also was blessed with the 7D. Good Vid. Depth and Saturation are crisp. Working on my festival submission. Only issue is smoking near equipment.
I was talking about winners to Best Drama, you guys were actually going for Best Picture? Wow. Did you see the best drama from Berkeley? Amazingly enough, they have the same concept with the victim getting loose! Wha? What are the chances? Like I was saying, crime is always the favorite of amateurs afraid to write anything that won't have flashy action scenes where they can compensate for their lack of a good story.
While this film has some beautiful shots, there needs to be more to it than just that. Crime stories are always very popular with amateur film students for some reason. I'm glad that this year CMF looked for a good story and originality above just some good camera work when picking the winners, and I think you guys need to deflate your heads a little bit. Try coming up with an original story more so than just trying to show off your rented camera.
Wow, you sure do know a lot about OUR production. I'm sure you could tell me the model/type camera we "rented". And of course you're going to attack the story; only because you didn't think of it. List some movies with the same situation.
"I dare you, I double dog dare you!" -Samuel Jackson "Pulp Fiction"
And I wonder what you're talking about with 'good story'. Yeah, stop motion. The greatest thing to come out in the last decade, won because of their 'story'. I'm sure eating pudding took much brainstorm and consideration.
Thanks! To be honest its probably our parents telling everyone they know. Either that or myself just checking up on it so many times. Definitely one of the two, actually both.
Jjuntado - you're doing nothing wrong, chief. It's obvious that CMF needs to do a little soul searching; if the idea behind it all is that the best films get shown the most, then the system (at least for judging at SJSU) is quite obviously broken. For films like yours, Vigorade, Truthbreakers, and (humbly) Complete aren't even being nominated then you have to wonder what the judges were told to look for.
Inman- Oh I know that the system is fatally flawed, and I can tell by the other filmmakers' comments, including yourself, are very upset. Sorry to say that this is no longer is a 'film' contest any more.
I hope that some way all the films that we believe deserve those spots are given a chance to go to regionals. It's sad that it seems that only one wild card will make it.
Btw I was rooting for Complete (and Vigorade) for the Best Picture award.
so agree with everything nes3 said. none of the other films showen last friday night compared in quality. makes me wonder what the judges were looking for. hmmmm...
wow, not that expressionless was bad (one my favorites last year story-wise), but the jump in quality between the two videos is mind blowing. good job.
We are a group of friends who love making films. I wrote and directed "Ill Will" as well as last year's "Expressionless" and I had a blast working on both films. No credits because of the time restriction.
Although, immediately after the results of the finale last night, I asked myself:
"What are we (the filmmakers) doing wrong?"
So on that note, congrats to all of the filmmakers who were shown last night. Jobs well done SJSU!
Rawr the actor playing the crazy criminal was awesome, i couldnt help but see a little hint of Gene Wilder in his performance, good stuff.
i have a question for the DP, well several.
What camera did you use to shoot this ?
what Lens did you use?
oo0oo0o0 and did you use any filters, for teh lens?
Once again, nice piece of film making, I'm assuming it was a small, tight nit crew. thumbs up.
