Win 7 slows down after months just like the previous Windows versions. Boot-up difference between XP, Vista SP2 and 7 is minimal (if any) - all of them are very quick after a fresh install, all of them slow down greatly after installing aplications, codecs etc.

Pointless comparison really. What matters is what windows 7 does most of the time, for most people. And that is, it boots faster and is ready faster than XP. I also do the same tests, and 7 boots and is ready to use in 10 seconds. XP takes about 11 seconds and is ready to use in about 16. Yes, it's a fast system. But on slower system, I've seen 7 take like 20 seconds, while XP took around 22, but then it waited like another 15 seconds. 7 is superior.

I think I know why Win7 boots up slower than XP: more utilities to run at startup and that Aero interface which requires some memory.

I've had my Windows 7 running for 2 months on a really powerful rig. It boots up quite fast, even with its 500 or so GB of junk.

Mac users seldom can break 20 seconds because in reality, apple hardware is slower, and cheaper core2duo, with a lousy bus and they use cheap hard drives. Only the latest videos where they use SSD do better and get closer to 10 seconds, but it's far less frequent.. Anyway, it's not like you need a mac to get that 10 seconds. Mine boots in 9. Not trying to be funny, it's 9.

My brother got a computer for christmas with Vista and he think it goes very slow and have a lot of problems with a lot of games. 7 feels like xp with better appearance. Its just 1 sec difference according to the video. For me, 7 is 3x better than xp and 10000000x better than vista. I run Windows XP sp3 (nLited) with 2 GB of DDR2 RAM in a 32GB (R=120mbps/W=80mbps) Solid State Disk Drive and it boots up to desktop in 8 seconds. Back then I tried running Windows Vista on this same exact configuration and it took more than 50 seconds to boot and Windows 7 takes close to 20 seconds to boot. Yeah I still like XP a lot better. Even though I tweaked the little 7 it does start up a lot faster now.. it takes my little 7 about 30 - 40 seconds of start up time. Before this it took it like 2 minutes but that was only because I had some external HDDs hooked up to it and they were on instead of off. lol that would be all though. 3-5 min for what? for start up? just tweak the little 7 and it will be fine.. mine used to take about 2 - 3 to start up and I tweaked it and now it only takes about 30 - 40 seconds. No I didn't.. I always clean my registry and I even use sandboxie. Another thing I always check msconfig under startup. and I don't anything starting other than windows and my antivirus program. Nothing running in the backround. Under the boot tab its just the bootscreen it says current default OS. he little 7 works and better than vista a lot better than vista. But I still thing XP pro is better. Maybe the little 7 needs to feed and get stronger. Are there any tweak programs for 7? Thank you.

Good news man. My OS is now running faster than what it was. I optimized my OS and it is now faster than the computers at my school. LOL It looks like when I built the system I messed up in the options and the bios.. So, I fixed it and then optimized it... it is now running great. rock the little seven. That is a bad ass number.

no I didn't. Now it doesn't take 3 minutes.. Now it only takes almost 2 minutes to boot up. My windows vista loads up a lot faster! lol That's 4 sure though, that the little 7 runs a lot faster when it's logged on and boot up. so yes my os 7 runs fast when it's on.. the only problem lies in booting to the welcome screen. once it hits the welcome screen is home free. Do you think it might be something in the BIOS?

No it's not a virus. If it had been a virus I would have lost everything. I just have to tweak the start up. I already did it. and it takes only 30 - 40 seconds to come to the welcome screen. Besides I had my external HDDs on instead of off and that was causing it to take too long to start up. lol. Got it working the way I want it though. I think the little 7 is growing stronger everyday.
