Back in 2001 I used to listen to a song that our neihgbours from the Ukraine used to play, and the song was kind of harsh rap with guitars, and one of the songs, if I remember correctly, was New Day [Novyj Den], at least that was what i could catch. Anybody can help with whether it was Ukrainian or Russian band, or what the band could be? Or mission impossible?

@Solky - oops my bad let me spell it correctly for you : Віктор Андрійович Ющенко. Sorry but IMO any person that kills their own countrymen is a traitor. To kill your fellow countrymen, child, or women and claim you are doing it for your country makes you a traitor. Also, let's not forget that Nationalist ( Poland, Ukraine, etc) sided with the losing party in the war.....ie the Nazi Party. BTW what did the current president of Ukraine say about these nationalists?

Please explain the difference in sound/instruments, etc between classic Russian folk and Ukrainian folk during this historical time period ( minus the language). I don't understand why west Ukraine is so hard pressed to distance themselves from Russia after thousands of years of history. I think that after Yurenshenko loses his next election we will see if Ukranians that worked with the Nazis in WW2 are still seen as national heros and not traitors.
@tzx1mv it's quite simple. Kingdom of Poland conquer part of western Ukraine in XIV century and iin 200 years conquer a whole Ukraine. In 1667 after Polish-Russian War Poland give half of Ukraine to Russia. Border was on Dnieprus River. That was for 100 years and then Ryussia, Austria and Pruss did a Partition of Poland, and big part of Ukraine was inside Tsardom of Russia and small part (Lviv, Tarnopol and Ivano-Frankowsk then Stanisławów) called Galicia was in Austria-Hungary.
@juzew69 Aftwr WWI in 1918 Poland once again conquer western Ukraine. In 1939 USSR take it and incorporate into Ukrainian Soviet Republc. So As you see for 600 years western Ukraine was on strong polish influence. I'm Polish and i'm also learning ukrainian and i have to say that very big part of words are almost the same in polish and ukrainian. When You look at language map of Ukraine. It's clear that in language and historical view Ukraine is consistet of two parts.
@juzew69 Also big part of Ukrainians in eastern Ukraine was resetteld by Stalin in 1930's and about 7 milion died becouse his orders to take all food from Ukraine in 1932/33. It's called now Big Hunger. After that many russians setteld in Ukraine, specially in Donbas area where You hav a lot of heavy industry, that's why Ukraine is divided on two parts.
If i write something wrong correct me please. Of course i did not wirte whole about Ukraine.
@tzx1mv Ukrainians who worked with nazis is complicated case. In majority they were not nazis. They just want to have their own state, independed from Russia and Poland. Their only way to gain it was helping germans. Some of them was killing Poles (about 100'000-150'000 killed Poles on Wołyń), some were helping germans, some joined to SS. Anyway after things that Stalin done in Ukraine i'm not suprised. Anyway Poland isn't holy too. Of coures Polish goverment weren't killing Ukrainians...
@juzew69 ...in 1920-1939 but it treat them like citizens of second category. For example from 1925 all schools have to learn in polish not ukrainian. Nothing can explain killing people but Ukrainians didn't work with germans becouse they were nazis, but to create a free state (under german protectorate of course), and in that point of view they are national heroes becouse they were fighting for freedom.
@juzew69 My grandmother was ukrainian descent and she saw a lot of things during WWII in Ukraine, nerby Lviv. It was hell like all wars. One more thing Ukraine i love you!
@tzx1mv Who the fuck is Юреншенко? I'm from Halychyna, and I like all Russians except the dickish ones like you who can't accept the Halych-Volynia (Ukraine) has been different to Vladimir-Suzdal (Russia) for centuries. We can celebrate our differences whilst still being allies, in fact our similarities should be what binds us together as friends, not the cause for one culture to dominate another. Ukraine and Russia are different but equal, end of.

who did not?
Soviet Union - did. Moreover, SU and fascist Germany commongly started WWII.
France collaborated, anc civial cervant of Vichy's regime later on became a President of France.
Meanwhile, top representants of OUN-UPA spent several years as prisoners in nazi'c camps.
More questions to be answered?
