  • barry ,do find that a white sign in a green hedge startles horses as they trot along ?

  • @coolacutta Any horse can shy or look at things - however its not necessarily the colour of the sign compared to the hedge, sometimes it is the fact it is different to what they expect. Some horses shy at red signs, others don't like yellow lines on the road etc. However with the right training these things shouldn't startle them; this is why we train young horses to cope with the different hazards, so although it may be out of the ordinary i.e. a new sign, they do not bother as they go past.

  • On our videos, we may do things that are "unconventional" like driving them under flapping ribbons, over metal ramps etc, but we believe that work pays off when they are then taken out on the road. Everything we do in the arena has a purpose; they are all things they might experience out on the roads and we think horses should be confident with things like plastic bags in hedges, signs, bikes, umbrellas etc as well as all sorts of traffic.

  • where re you guys located and do you train other peoples horses?

  • @cowgirlup268 Yes we break other people's horses to harness (this is what we do for a living - if you visit our Youtube channel and go to our website you can find more information there). Our Youtube videos all show clients' horses that we have broken to drive or re-schooled/trained. We are based near Andover in Hampshire (UK) but we do have horses sent to us for training from all over the UK and overseas.

  • @Thowsmom If you send me an email at horsedrawnpro@hotmail.com I will send you a copy of our Services leaflet which shows the prices involved, or call Barry or myself to discuss your requirements in more detail.

  • nice work, but seems like your soundtrack on this one is ahead of the video...

  • deffo alot of time and dedication involved but how do you stop the horses from jumping ie drums etc

i did alot of this work with my old mare but she wouldnt go through things she felt she had to try and jump them

  • How long would it take to train a horse that has never done this before?

  • It takes us about 6 weeks to train an unhandled horse up to the standard shown in our videos (driving through heavy traffic, water, arena hazards etc). Horses that people have attempted to break beforehand, or who have had a mishap (i.e. bolted, kicked) can sometimes take longer because we have to deal with that problem as well as training them to go confidently in the carriage.

  • I am really impressed with your method to desensitize driving horses. I suggest that you make a video and sell it...a "how to-step by step". I know that I would buy it. Also, it seems that no-one tells about the mishaps, and what to do about it when it happens. I am in the US and cant come there!

  • What kind of vehicle is it that the grey horse is being driven to? The wheels are quite substantial - are they made for a carriage or are they something like motorcycle wheels?

  • hi you realy seem to know what your doing when it comes to driving horses an ponies :) could u sugest any ideas that would solv a pony who is jumpy with shafts as i have a 13.3hh mare that has real potental in driving she listens well n dont have any problems with blinkers or harness and she dont mind pulling things but as soon as she feels the shafts on her she bolts ??? all sugestions would be appreshiated

    x THANKS! x

  • I think what you're referring to are either side reins (to help the horse develop his head carriage) which we use whilst lungeing or long-reining, or maybe a cow collar (a leather strap around the horse's neck). We sometimes use this instead of a headcollar to prevent the buckles from rubbing the horse's face when he is in a stall. But it is separate from the bridle and the harness and is only there so we can tie the horse up when he is being taken out of harness.

  • I'm not sure what it's called, but do you have to have the leather that hooks from the bridle to the harness? I noticed on one of your other movies that the horse didnt have it. What is the reason for it? Do I have to have it?

  • You have done a tremendous job in bomb-proofing these horses.

  • are you uk based ??

  • Yes we are - near Andover in Hampshire.
