Boss doesn't factor in to the playthrough time so as long as you reach level 16 in 10 minutes, it's all good. Lots of bombs is quicker and safer though.

The time you spend fighting the final boss is counted in your play time; you need to do all 16 levels, including the final boss, in under 10 minutes.
