OMG!! I was there in this video when it was made. All the the schools attended that day and i still remember it now. Happy memories from when i was a kid growing up in Milton Keynes. Still love the place now. :)
@dan1981dan1981 I know you're not trying to upset anyone it's a free country :) I'm almost 30 myself and I do a lot of work all over MK and I recognise what you're saying about those areas; but it still remains that most people in those areas are decent people when you talk to them, it's a vocal minority that make themselves known above everyone else that makes it appear the whole place is 'infested'. However in day to day dealings with people who live on these estates, they are good people.
Milton Keynes is a bit of a dump now in most places face it. I've lived there for almost 30 years and have watched it consistantly go down hill. It is full of chav rat, wannabe gangsters who talk in that pathetic put on giggaboo voice and call each other blud and breadwin! lol
@dan1981dan1981 I'm sorry but that is just not true, sure what happened in Fishermead, Conniburrow, Netherfield and so forth is pretty criminal but every place has its problems and sadly its a sign of a place maturing. When you look at the bigger picture, MK is very far from being a dump in most places when you actually talk to the people in the various grids, even the places where most people think are bad. I'm not sure where you hang out but very few people talk in that accent in MK.
Milton Keynes is the best place i have ever lived, and if it was not for this place always providing me with all my opurtunities than i would never be where i am now today. When people say its a concrete city (town to others) its less concrete than places like London, Birmingham, Manchester etc.etc. it has lots of green spaces!
Milton Keynes is the best place i have ever lived, and if it was not for this place always providing me with all my opurtunities than i would never be what it is today. When people say its a concrete city (town to others) its less concrete than places like London, Birmingham, Manchester etc.etc. it has lots of green spaces!
Everywhere has a section of it where people say should avoid and everyone always focuses on the negative when they talk about places . MK is still a nice place , it has chavs but no more than anywhere else. Sure I would never go though the underpasses at night but i wouldn't anywhere. Cut MK some slack it still has merit. Stony Stratford is still a quaint market town, Bletchley Park is still the historic place where the nazi's code was cracked and Great Linford is still beautiful in the summer.
'Wouldn't it be nice if all cities were like Milton Keynes?' - No ethnic minorities, no alternative lifestyles, no disabled people. Who made this advert - Goebbels?
It ain't a city yet is it? (as stated in the clip). That's false advertising innit? When it does become a city your car and house insurances will increase!! I lived there 1978-1987. Found the council to be completely incompetent.
@stenny76 i don't know what youre on about. Ok, I dont remember this MK, as i wasn't born yet, but I still am proud of the place which i live. MK is great
In defense it not full of Chav Scum, its becoming full of those jumping the housing queue, getting payouts without a history of contributing to the welfare state or the tax system with the excuse of diversity. Lets go back to when you came to live in Milton Keynes because you had something to contribute not because you want to take.
The memories. I was brought up there, more specifically Bletchley. I emigrated to New Zealand 5 years ago now, but I visited MK last year again and still hold fond memories of my childhood there.
That's my Dad looking through the bike shop window! I remember the day he came home from work with all the stage makeup still on - never quite got over it!!
Leeford2 Milton Keynes is bigger and better than them days.. nothing bad to say about this place atall.. i've lived here pretty much all my life so do me a favour.. don't insult my home. Thanks.
I think the advert was made in 1984. I was in the 2nd year of Knowles Middle School at the time. Most of the school went and my strongest memory of the day, like has been said by someone else, is of being bored out of my mind!
I was there at the bowl I was either 82 or 83. I rememeber standing there for ages, massively bored. Some kids from other schools starting kicking off with eachother. The shape of things to come...
Thanks! I was looking for this ad for ages. I was a young nipper when this was originally on. It was sad but beautiful- the boy looks a bit lonely. What year was it broadcast?
Good question! It was 1982-4 sometime. I was a primary school teacher at the time and all the older children in the city were invited (10,000 I think) so it was a busy day out!
Jesus, I feel old for remembering this.
