Ah the memories! This was my favorite song when I was 6 yrs old. My high school aged baby sitter made me a cassette because I loved it so much. Still have it to this day! Now where's that tape player...
HAHAHA- I remember being 12 years old, watching MTV, and thinking, "Wow - she almost didn't get in the video at all." Something tells me she would have gotten a lot more face time if she'd been, more, ... well, you know...
@CartoonsAndGameShows You are so right. I remember thinking this song was kick ass. I start up the video and was like wtf is up with the Go-Go's intro that is also peppered in the song here and there. THIS ISN"T WHAT I REMEMBERED OR THOUGHT I HEARD 28 YEARS AGO! It's amazing what sounds like what that wasn't apparent at the time. Ah the 80's. We were the best groomed generation of all time. I said groomed, not dressed. It's been downhill since. Thumbs up for HAWT GIRLZ WITH BIG HAIR!
For this video, MTV had a contest to be in the video. See the winner at about 12 seconds, which lasts about 1 second!!! And know she is not one of the HOT chicks!!
80's MUSIC ROCKED!!!!!!!! Robert Hazard and The Hero's, Romeo Void, The Hooters, The Club's here in The Wildwood's, NJ, were always packed and lines to get in every club too. And there was at least 30 to 40 club's on this island
Whenever I listen to this song, I can taste that first taste of chewing tobacco I tried in my high school parking lot with my buddies. We used to play this song over and over again on the boom box! Someone PLEEEEEASE take me back to the 80s!!!! I don't belong the here and now!! : (
@TiramisuHappy thats so fkn funny! lol im a 90s' kid, its funny when u go and check out vids on here from the 90s' u see comments from kids saying 'man i wish i lived in the 90s' they actually had good music back then' lol
According to Readers Digest June 1983...Mike Reno saved an old woman from drowning at a Holiday Inn hotel. She died 3 weeks later after being run over by a Judas Priest tour bus.
@MATHERIK7 - I remember that. Similar publicity gimmicks like this could be seen every so often during the MTV age. I always liked to think the poor girl was not given enough time at the gym to get herself in shape for a proper 15 minutes of fame. Or, at worst, she went the 'take me as I am' route. I hardly think that was the case and in all probability sitting at a control panel turning a dial was the best she was going to get anyway.

Just one questions and I am serious and sincere about this. Where are those women now. In my college days when this came out, I;ll just say the lead woman was a video companion I would stay up all night watch Night Tracks on TBS to look for. Plus it was a awesome song. What is she doing now? My guess? Soccer moms? Hoping to vote for Palin in 2012? Church volunteers? Running businesses?
This vid is 27 years old. Doubt they are soccer moms. Could be a few grandmas by now. Probably more like burnt out coke heads that never got their claim to fame.
This song was written for a movie that Loverboy was to star in originally and when the deal feel apart the band had said to be very saddebn by the news

@soopertrucker2004 The drummer for LB is one of the most overlooked musicians in the 80's. If you listen to some of the other songs by LB and you can hear how good he really is!
@crowgirl420 Agreed. Deborah "Solid gold dancer" Jenssen was one of my favourites. I especially like her work on Rod Stewarts "Tonight I'm yours" video. So sexy in a bikini.

Dios mio!!!
I agree imichelle98... Paul Dean IS my #2 favorite guitargod of all time, Rock music wise... next to my #1, Neal Schon from Journey... SO SO TALENTED! <<<< she bows down LOL
Paul Dean is WAAAAYY underrated. Im am not a huge guitar fan, but just saw them live, and was the first time I was blown away by guitar!!! These guys are still great live
I was 20 yrs. old in 1983, this is my favorite song & video by Loverboy. I can't, right now, remember the lead singer's name but I always thought he looked alot like Emilio Estevez. Remember, there is an old saying, something good, always come back, I hate the 70's clothing right now, I wish it go away but 80's clothing, please, come back & the music.
This video had heavy rotation in the early days of MTV. It was a staple because there still wasn't a ton of choices. One of my favorites back in the day even though it might be a little cheesy. Great components in the song though. Paul Dean rocks this song and Matt Frenette was hot on the drums.
@elizabethlee2008 Yes there are!!! I was lucky enough to know people here in Nashville. When they would come thru, I was there hangin with them. Nice freakin guys. I was only 14 or so but I was older than I looked . GOD the chicks and things I got to see. LOL. LB will always be the best to me.
I was the costume designer on this video--we shot it in Red Rock Canyon in California--I can't believe it's here! Directed by Martin Kahan, DP was Tony Mitchell.
Good job! Loverboy and so many other bands of that era are awesome. I grew up in the 80's, back when rock 'n roll was fun, powerful, melodic. Love it!
Yeah, sorry. I couldn't believe it when the band asked the producers if they could keep the costumes (technically, they belonged to the production company, not the band, since the former paid for the video). They wanted the costumes to be their new "look" as a bad--little did they know how I'd ripped them to shreds with kitchen tools and rubbed them underfoot in the dirt to make them look post-apocalyptic
that girl at 0:16 won an MTV contest for the right to be in this video. i remember whey they showed her with the band, in a 20 second clip. they were trying to be nice and she was very shy. shes in this video for 1 second. i guess she was too heavy and that just wasnt cool .
Such a good band, I love their first three releases..."Loverboy", "Get Lucky", and "Keep It Up"...after that, they just weren't as good and I think most of their fans agree. That's why at thier concerts they mostly play songs off the first three...they were all so good and catchy! I will always love this band, hope they come around here again real soon, I've seen them twice so far. :)
They say that in most cases and artists best work is the first three albums. They had their whole lives to prepare for those. Then you start trying to give people what they want and it all goes to shit. Great band though....they really kicked ass live too!
I entered that contest and was bummed when I didn't win. I wanted to be the Loverboy Video Girl... The poor girl really didn't get a whole lotta air time...wow, flip a switch. Now look at Mike Reno... I saw him on that show a couple of years ago about old rock stars and he still sounds great, but boy did he lose his looks...
This is so funny! The ugly fat chick in front of the monitors in the beginning of the video was the winner of the "Be the next Loverboy video girl contest". Does anyone remember that?
I imagine they thought they'd score some kind of Tawny Kitaen, or something. Oops. Think she felt more than a little gypped?
I remember it, MTV had a special about the making of it and showed the video, me and my brothers and my cousin Carrie watched it and all thought "that's it?", yeah, I'd say she felt gypped!! I remember her name was Bridgette, god, I'm old!!
Love this song. My brother and his son actually met Mike Reno last summer and he has changed. And I used to have a mad crush on Mike during the 1980s, but if you saw what he looked like now, well...! LOL. Still love these guys. They were part of the great decade of great music and videos!
I remember seeing Mike Reno on TV several years ago- He seemed real pissed at Grunge Rock which was popular at that time, especially at the fact that his music was no longer in vogue. Man, if there is something I cannot stand, it is old, washed up rockers who bitch and whine about about being old and washed up.
This song my mother dedicated to me because it reminds her of me <3 lmao !!

Kind of reminds me of Petty's video "you got lucky" just a bit as wel, except... this one has hot chicks

Good job! Loverboy and so many other bands of that era are awesome. I grew up in the 80's, back when rock 'n roll was fun, powerful, melodic. Love it!
hwgatw68 2 years ago 2
So it's your darn fault I wore that red bandana even to my basketball games? gosh.
EnigmaInPr 2 years ago
Yeah, sorry. I couldn't believe it when the band asked the producers if they could keep the costumes (technically, they belonged to the production company, not the band, since the former paid for the video). They wanted the costumes to be their new "look" as a bad--little did they know how I'd ripped them to shreds with kitchen tools and rubbed them underfoot in the dirt to make them look post-apocalyptic

did you have to go to the tent factory to make the outfit for the fat girl?????

ah, i see from the comments that some people DO remember that. anyway, "get lucky" was good, but everything after that sucked. this song is lousy.

that girl at 0:16 won an MTV contest for the right to be in this video. i remember whey they showed her with the band, in a 20 second clip. they were trying to be nice and she was very shy. shes in this video for 1 second. i guess she was too heavy and that just wasnt cool .
jas22 2 years ago
i feel bad she was heavy and got like 1 second, but she just didnt fit (no pun intended) with the video
mornay77 2 years ago
Such a good band, I love their first three releases..."Loverboy", "Get Lucky", and "Keep It Up"...after that, they just weren't as good and I think most of their fans agree. That's why at thier concerts they mostly play songs off the first three...they were all so good and catchy! I will always love this band, hope they come around here again real soon, I've seen them twice so far. :)
TheLivingDeadBoy 2 years ago
They say that in most cases and artists best work is the first three albums. They had their whole lives to prepare for those. Then you start trying to give people what they want and it all goes to shit. Great band though....they really kicked ass live too!

I entered that contest and was bummed when I didn't win. I wanted to be the Loverboy Video Girl... The poor girl really didn't get a whole lotta air time...wow, flip a switch. Now look at Mike Reno... I saw him on that show a couple of years ago about old rock stars and he still sounds great, but boy did he lose his looks...
Mogoamerica 2 years ago
This is so funny! The ugly fat chick in front of the monitors in the beginning of the video was the winner of the "Be the next Loverboy video girl contest". Does anyone remember that?
I imagine they thought they'd score some kind of Tawny Kitaen, or something. Oops. Think she felt more than a little gypped?
tinkles30 3 years ago
I remember it, MTV had a special about the making of it and showed the video, me and my brothers and my cousin Carrie watched it and all thought "that's it?", yeah, I'd say she felt gypped!! I remember her name was Bridgette, god, I'm old!!
nnaw 3 years ago
Love this song. My brother and his son actually met Mike Reno last summer and he has changed. And I used to have a mad crush on Mike during the 1980s, but if you saw what he looked like now, well...! LOL. Still love these guys. They were part of the great decade of great music and videos!
PaulieDi 3 years ago
I remember seeing Mike Reno on TV several years ago- He seemed real pissed at Grunge Rock which was popular at that time, especially at the fact that his music was no longer in vogue. Man, if there is something I cannot stand, it is old, washed up rockers who bitch and whine about about being old and washed up.
rayjr62 2 years ago
That's funny because grunge rock is all washed up now and Loverboy still rocks..
