please give me technical spec of powerful telescope, I am going to buy it. I want to see Jupiter, Mars and other planets very clearly. Also is it possible to take videos and photos of it?
Some really cool views here. I'm a complete noob to this but I have been looking around for a decent starter scope, but I don't want to shell out big bucks to begin with.
Is the Astromaster 114 a good scope to start things off with?
Awesome- thx for sharing! I just got an Astromaster 114 but haven't had but one chance to use it because of all the dreadful clouds.... I did get to c the moon one night and can't wait to get another look :) thx again!
can anyone tell me what stars look like with this telescope and is it true if point into a dark patch of sky you will see stars , i need help getting around scope .
saturn is the most amazing thing to see through a telescope to me, even though jupiter is bigger it doesnt make it as cool to see, p.s. when ur looking through ur telescope do you ever think something is just going to pop up in front of what ur seeing, u know like a pale face or something sick, cuz when im focusing on something trying to see it i get a little scurred sometimes yah meen
Something is not right. I've gotten sharper pictures from my 80mm refractor (Celestron branded Vixen) viewed from San Francisco using a simple adapter and old 2.5MP Olympus 2500L. And my setup cost me a lot less than $500. Astronomy is great fun and good equipment is important (resolution and not magnification)
@MrJordanflys There is absolutely nothing wrong with my collimation...And the eye pieces i use are really great. I appologize if my $500s worth of telescope equipment offends a high roller like yourself. Get a life.
@4theloveofdill. Your collimation isn't off but I'd recommend the use of a light pollution filter (they are great if you're in a built up / lit neighborhood. And a red or blue filter 'cause these filters will let you see a lot more detail on Jupiter, Mars' polar caps and Saturn's rings.
114EQ is a great scope. For anyone interested in astronomy, it's the lenses that provide the magnification....the 114 refers to the primary mirror which is the light gatherer. It's not unusual to point the scope to a "blank" part of the sky to discover it crowded with stars, which is the primary mirrors' function.
I don't get it. the 130eq is a model up, has a bigger lens, but has a waaay smaller focal length and zoom. Is a slightly bigger lens really worth the smaller focal length and magnification.
were these pictures taken with any other accessories that ypou bought for the telescope or is it literally just "out of the box" equipment (apart from the webcam). And have you bought any accessories for this telescope that has hlped to see planets better?
@TheAshCoops I bought a filter kit and a plossl lense kit. With these items and a barlow, i can make out with detail, many aspects of the planet surfaces and the moon.
@TheAshCoops Its amazing what you can see with a small scope, look for Budget astronomy on youtube you will see many people with 70mm scopes producing images of equal detail (some even better)
hey great video, i just got this telescope and its great, you obviously know what you are doing and i'm wondering if you could help me, I am trying to get used to it, i was able to see Jupiter pretty well along with the moons but my main goal is to see Mars, when can you see Mars? i have looked all over for the answer and i cant find anything, Please message me back, it would help out so much!! Great video please help me out:)
I have an astromaster 114 eq also, but my dad and I are still only able to see the moon at ease. Can you give us some tips on how to locate these planets? We're really helpless!
@4theloveofdill Hey, next month I am getting a SkyWatcher Skyline 150p 6" reflecter. Will I be able to see things like this? I am not sure how powerful it is compared to others, as its my first scope.
@4theloveofdill Hey man. This may sound like a dumb question. But i cant find Jupiter and Saturn Or any for that matter in the sky. Are they by a certian star or close to the moon.? Where are they.?
@catandAk47 jupiter is really high in the sky lately its glowing yellow and sets in nort west saturn rises from the east at midnight and is up high in the sky at about 4am its right next to the star spica wich shines bright and saturn is to the left of it its yellow
@catandAk47 Look where the moon rises and sets. There you will also find the planets moving across the sky. The planets have a steady brightness and usually do not flicker unless low on the horizon. Jupiter is fading alot compared with the summer. Venus is setting in the western sky for a few hours after the sunset and Saturn rises from the east after 11pm and is high in the sky at about 3 or 4 am.
Dude is that a Air Craft hovering a bit above the moon on :33 top right of the shot!!!!!!!!!!! seriously loook at that shit...............what do you think??????????
so it looks like its right below ur heading where it says through, follow the t down into pick an youll see what looks to be a round craft or mountain than to the right an a little down there is a shadow/ canyon or crater looks like a craft just thought no one would say its possible. @4theloveofdill
Amazing stuff ive alredy got a telescope n now i am going to get a celestron astromaster 114 eq motor drive with 1000 mm focal length is tht any gud ??
@Loogal2506 it takes a little getting used to. Of course the best way o figure it out is by setting it up and uselessly looking at things through it. All of a sudden, you will be focusing and such without any assistance. I taught myself. You can do it. The moon is an easy object to get used to the telescope with. It is also very important to know north and south and such...buy a compass.
The amazing thing is that the Earth has one Moon but Jupiter has at least 63 known moons and Saturn has possibly 62 or more than 60 known moons. Also Saturn is mroe massive compared to the Earth than the Earth is to the Moon.
@skiffy08 you need filters to make out some of the planet surface features..you only need a moon filter on a full moon when it is bright.
The different coloured filters will abandon some of the colour light from the sun shining off of the surface, and will make you able to see more. The shots of jupiter were without a filter, and therefore it looked like a large star rather than a planet a filter would show bands..Get yourself a lense filter kit and you'll be rockin.
I keep seeing all these fuzzy, out of focus shots of the planets and moon, and I wonder what is the point of having a telescope if you can't get a good, sharp, clear image of what you're looking at! Why can't a telescope be focused to get a sharp, clear image?
Nice shots, Saturn was my favourite :D. I have been puzzled what filters where used for until now. Thanks for uploading the video, I really enjoyed it.
great shots! I've been using my celestron 114 and picked up great shots of Jupiter and Venus. Looking forward to seeing Saturn early Spring after the shots you got.
I really must know how you adapted a camera to the eyepiece.
Well you did convince me to buy this haha It just came the other day ive gotten some really clear shots of the moon but the finderscope its pretty bad so Im ordering a set of lenses and a new finderscope, also a motor drive. I have one question though sorry if its a dumb one Im still new to this but do you need any kind of special attachment to record video or take pictures? I know how to use the piggyback mount but im unsure if you have to use a special filter or something to take photos
Bad photos to be honest, and this thing looks like it's really out of collimation. Plus, too much chromatic abbration. Also, Uranus and Neptune are also visible, as is Pluto, but they are very faint. Still, for starting out with a ~$250 telescope, these are good pictures. Surprised at the detail you got with Saturn with this thing.
Might want to collimate your primary though, maybe get a better focuser.

how did you get such good shots? I also use a celestron astromaster 114 eq (1000mm focal) with a 32mm eyepiece, 2x barlow lens, and sometimes filters. HOW DID YOU DO IT? especially venus and saturn.
@Amatoposters You have to be patient and get the planets on a good clear cold night. Alot of the shots are winter shots. Venus was easy...I did use some filters to get the rings of Saturn and to see the bands on jupiter. Jupiter is so bright, you see nothing but a bright ball without a filter. Same as Mars. Mars shot was not so good. I took a couple pics when i first got it. I had to zoom quite a bit using a webcam and my laptop..I used clarity programs to clear the pics up a bit.
@TheDisneyEpisodes You can get it on Telescopes(dot)com for $120 I belive, or get a full pack (tracking motor, eyepices with 2x barlow, and filters) for $210 [it's a good price] It's really good.
@OfficialSMILO with this telescope you could see more than the moon, like mars, jupite, saturn, venus, and millions of deep sky objects, like m42 nebulae, or m31, try it out
I used a 2X barlow lense....i purchased a kit with 5 lenses going down to a 4mm, a bunch of filters and the barlow lense for about 150 dollars. Barlow can get blurry, but is good for seeing more distant things..the smaller the lense mm, the more magnified it is...To view planets, you will need filters on the lense to make out any surface detail, because they are bright(ie the pics of jupiter) and even when you do see things, they look black and white in the eye piece. Good Luck

@4theloveofdill where do you get the filters from too?
and do they have certain filters for certain objects, like a saturn filter, jupiter filter and so on?

@OfficialSMILO with this telescope you could see more than the moon, like mars, jupite, saturn, venus, and millions of deep sky objects, like m42 nebulae, or m31, try it out

p.s, what barlow did you use? im not sure which one i should get (il soon have a 114), also do you use any filters?
MethedoneKitty 1 year ago
I used a 2X barlow lense....i purchased a kit with 5 lenses going down to a 4mm, a bunch of filters and the barlow lense for about 150 dollars. Barlow can get blurry, but is good for seeing more distant things..the smaller the lense mm, the more magnified it is...To view planets, you will need filters on the lense to make out any surface detail, because they are bright(ie the pics of jupiter) and even when you do see things, they look black and white in the eye piece. Good Luck

yeah..my friend Luke wrote the tracks, i loved em.

would looking at the moon with binoculars work?
OfficialSMILO 1 year ago
You will only make out a bit more detail than the naked eye..With this telescope you can make out the many craters and such.

Nice! Recently got this telescope, looking forward to getting it connected to the camera.
How did you mount the webcam to the eyepiece?

cheers...I actually created a piece that holds the camera in place...try to use a digital camera over a pc one..you get much better shots.
