Gas prices affect the whole economy. Years ago when the price of gas shot up the cost of food and other products went up with it. While I, and others, may not have felt the burden, some that were low income, living from pay check to pay check, really suffered. The burden of high priced gas can be devastating to low income families.
Well, if we don't increase gas tax, people would buy gas like candy and drives like there's no tomorrow. If our country imported 1 week worth of oil supply and our population used that supply in 1 day? What would happen for the remaining 6 days? Everything in our country will stop. That's why government "regulate" gas so that we conserve it and use only what we required.

Bloomberg is right to want to hike taxes on gas. Taxing gas is a different story than tobacco because demand for petroleum so greatly exceeds domestic production capabilities. Thus OPEC enjoys too much pricing power, which contributes to the commodity's price volatility and, further down the line, a weaker dollar. Furthermore, NYC should absolutely discourage automobile use. Public transit makes far more sense. They shouldn't be taxing cigarettes like they do. It's bad for small business.

Around where I live gas prices are going down by $0.50. It's still $4 a gallon, but it wasn't $4.40 - $4.50, like it was two weeks ago. Something is happening.
what's happening is your gas prices may go down....for nor now....but you have spent so much of your taxes on it that it is like spending 20 dollars a gallon. and once you and the rest of your country go broke, the inflation will increase and within a couple of years the gas prices will be like hundreds if not thousands of dollars a gallon.

canadian money is more valuable than the usa for over a year. our money is 35% more valuable in that the prices are cheaper. if it were in american dollars, you would only be paying like 50 cents.
i am very much serious. currently it is a dollar a litre. where as americans are paying a few dollars a gallon and a gallon is smaller than a litre. it is only high right now because the americans collapsed, but we will bring the gas prices back down because we are building more oil fields in the atlantic right now. a few months ago are gas prices was only 75 cents per litre. a few months before that it was only 50 cents a litre.

Around where I live gas prices are going down by $0.50. It's still $4 a gallon, but it wasn't $4.40 - $4.50, like it was two weeks ago. Something is happening.

what's happening is your gas prices may go down....for nor now....but you have spent so much of your taxes on it that it is like spending 20 dollars a gallon. and once you and the rest of your country go broke, the inflation will increase and within a couple of years the gas prices will be like hundreds if not thousands of dollars a gallon.
in other words, i'd enjoy what little time you have left of your freedom on earth.

i am very much serious. currently it is a dollar a litre. where as americans are paying a few dollars a gallon and a gallon is smaller than a litre. it is only high right now because the americans collapsed, but we will bring the gas prices back down because we are building more oil fields in the atlantic right now. a few months ago are gas prices was only 75 cents per litre. a few months before that it was only 50 cents a litre.

If you're in Canada, then you're talking about 70 cents per LITRE, right?
3.785 liters = 1 gallon
That means gas costs 2.65 per gallon in Canada, compared to the 3 dollar average in the US, and after adjusting for international currency exchange, you've got about the same exact thing. Sorry, kid.

gallons is very tricky. i saw your comment and i went to go see for myself and some say there are 2 litres in a gallon, others say 4.5 and you got it at 3.785. just as tons can vary depending on who is doing it.

Americans are starting to find out that at some point you will have to pay your bills - mortgage, credit cards etc. The Government is about to find out what it means to lose economic power. If China and Saudi Arabia decide to pull their money out of the US then it is the beginning of the end for us.
As much as I enjoyed my tax cut, I knew this day would come. Our Oil imports have given foreigners huge reserves - to buy American companies or even lend us money to cover our deficit.

I'm not too familiar with NY politics but wasn't Bloomberg a Democrat for a long time before changing parties. I do know now Bloomberg is an Independent because of the coverage of him being a 3rd party candidate for the PotUS. Looks like to me, he jumped the ship (Democrats) to get elected then jumped ship again (Republicans) when he got elected again. I didn't think Giuliani had that much of a lasting impact on NYC if the Republicans could carry that city for the following 2 elections.

Like I said I'm not familiar with NY politics and I don't really understand the circumstances in why he changed parties but his bio on different websites including Wikipedia says he was a lifelong Democrat who turned Republican in 2001 then reregistered to Independent after 2007 - hindsight 20/20 - it seems Bloomberg switched to the Republican party to win his first nomination then left the party after he won the second nomination.

This freedom grabbing shit is getting WAY out of hand by these self-serving politicians who sell us out, sell out our freedom for their own benefit. What's it going to take? to really change things.
