  • Man, stars back then were so good at everything - acting, dancing, singing and c'mon, Gene Kelly tap dancing in roller skates?!! True talent right here. Why can't we highlight this kind of pure goodness today?...

  • Gene Kelly, I don't even understand how you were human. All I know is that you should come back to life and woo me

  • no doubt about it, Gene Kelly just rocks my freaking socks

  • This is fantastic! I can't believe he was 43 in this! Wow!

    Gene Kelly is amazing :]

  • A show stupendous skating skills sullied by a siilly song. Gene's genious. RIP

  • Wow. That was amazing, to say the least. I wonder how long it took to shoot that scene.

  • my goodness! this man was amazing! why don't we have stars like this anymore?

  • oww we have, its just those nostaglic people claims we havent ^^

  • @musicalmeg89, we DO have people who can dance this well, but it's not that simple. All the stars of the silver screen era had the studio system developing them when they were young, poor, but very talented. That system no longer exists. They have to pay that money themselves. Also, there was Broadway, which is where Kelly was before movies. And, there was vaudeville, where Fred came from.

  • You got your audience feedback immediately, with rotten fruit if your work was bad. All of that was a slow pressure cooker. The talented people with stamina rose to the top.

  • And another thing, Kelly was a VERY HARD taskmaster to dance for and with. Ask Debbie Reynolds. She didn't start out as a dancer in Singin' In The Rain, but she was by the end of it. Kelly made her rehearse until her feet BLED and then she had to keep rehearsing. But the results were gold.

  • Ya gotta love the sign to the left of the doors where Kelly first enters; "Unlimited skating a 3 month quarterly pass $10.00". It costs $45.00 just for one event at some competitions now!

  • Gene Kelly is one of the best dancers who ever lived. Between him and Fred, Gene takes the cake. You do not see Fred Astaire dancing with roller skates, or dancing with Jerry Mouse. I love Gene.

  • I also prefer Gene. Though you DO see Fred dancing with roller skates... And he has done sillier things than dancing with Jerry the mouse, he has danced with shoes without a body, or on drums... No doubt they were the bests.

  • True they are both talented. But they only did one movie together and no more because they were that good.. lol

  • Gene Kelly has gotta be a contender for "the coolest person ever to have lived". I think Singin' in the Rain is brilliant. This is just amazing.

  • It's amazing to think he was in his forties when this was made. What a man!

  • Dancing with roller skates! Only Gene Kelly could think of it. Very creative.

  • yeah. I'm pretty sure he's the only person who could think of that. I'm amazed any of us could comprehend it.

  • You might want to look up Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in "Shall We Dance" and the roller skating duet in the park. It was

filmed in 1937. This one is 1955. Not to take away from Mr. Kelly who is brilliant in whatever he does.

  • True. But no offense, they both (while extremely graceful when dancing) spend most of that dance sequence over balancing backwards and fighting to not fall over.) This has taken it to another level.

  • what can i say?!

a man of talent and creativity whose acting and dancing abilities are legendary

    WHAT A GUY!

    but...

i think it would be cool if the video was high quality :/

HOLD UP! i think i know how to do that lol

try typing "&fmt=18" at the end of the web address and voila!

i mean come on... Gene Kelly's work was meant to be in high quality ;)

  • I am simply blown away every time I watch this. Amazing.

  • This never fails to put a smile on my face!

  • Is there anything this man can not do!!! He's a freaking legend!!!!

  • in our lifetime there are people who come along once in a lifetime and touch us forever with their magic and gene kelly was one of those people.

  • anyone know where you can buy some kool skates like these?

  • I'd like to see some of the new actors do that, sing, act, dance and skate at the same time. Sadly that is not ever going to happen again. Even if it does no one will want to see it....

  • i, too, would love to see some new actors attempt this! haha! but i wouldnt say that this wont ever happen again - sure, this was entertainment at its best, but there's still hope! and i know many people who would appreciate being able to see this today

  • That may be true, but sadly people as a whole are not the same. It seems like everything impossible is what the massed want, take a look at the last Diehard movie. The guy jumps on an airplane.............. The closest the wold will get to a great movie like this is J-lo singing and dancing in a made for Nickelodeon movie.

  • FABULOUS!!!!!!!

  • i love this song I wish I could have done it to how did he do that?

  • Simply wonderful. An example of Gene Kelly at his best.

Do you have Cyd Charisse's stunning "Baby You Knock Me Out" number from the same film?

  • Thank you so much for putting this up here. Absolutely incredible! It shouldn't be possible to do this, which is why we need proof readily available!

  • Who says white people can't dance? LOL

  • Amazing. Very thankful he was able to share his talent with us on the silver screen.

  • Okay, this makes me sick! Gene Kelly, I officially hate you. Can any performer do that today, I don't think so.

  • quite possibly the sickest thing I've ever seen. He's infectious!

  • One of my all-time fave Gene Kelly numbers. He is mind-boggling! The years of ice hockey make his performance effortless.

  • The first time I saw this, I think I had an orgasm. Performers today don't even compare to the genius of Gene Kelly, Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire or Danny Kaye.

Oh Gene. How I love thee. Let me count the ways.

  • That's the first time I've seen anybody tap dance on roller skates...I guess there wasn't much Gene Kelly couldn't do.

  • the guy was born on skates

  • I adored Gene Kelly and this was my absolute favorite scene in any of his movies! I used to roller skate like crazy as a teenager, and I always wished I could make it look as easy as he did! (alas, I was a klutz)

  • Gene, we miss you like you wouldn't believe. How do you tap dance on roller skates without breaking your neck?!

  • How in the name of hell...?!!! what a legend :]

  • i think of Leon when i see this.

  • me too, i've been lookin' for this song for a long time and couldn't find anywhere for free but youtube.

  • haha...lucky for leon...

  • Gold! Purely, simply gold!

  • I heard this song from a cd (The Best of Gene Kelly) & I've wanted to see the song on film. Thanks

  • this man rocks my world!! he was a genius there will never be someone like Gene Kelly. Too bad people don't appreciate him anymore, his movies are the best ever

  • I love gene kelly, I'm taking tap dancing and he is my hero

  • Wonderful!!!Wonderful!!!!

  • i feel so bad that no 1 really watches musicals anymore gene kelly was and is the best i am so sorry he's dead no one can compare, come on skate TAPPING OMG

  • Oh my GOODNESS!! I have never seen this before! Why don't people sing and dance anymore? Because Gene Kelly CONTINUES to put the world to shame! BRAVO!

  • The French subtitles seems appropriate to me, since it was "Leon" that made me wanna look for this song.

However, this must be a PAL-source, 'cause it sounded a bit higher (compared to what I saw in that Luc Besson film).

  • I think Leon was supposed to be Italian

  • Leon is also the title of the film (at least outside the U.S./Canada market; in America, it's called "The Proffesional").

  • YAY!!! been wanting to see this song, thanks for posting!

  • WOW! Wonderful!!!

    Thanks for sharing ;)

  • Yay, thanks for posting.
