@seankinsellasean Deirdre Ryan is the 6th best high jumper in the world and Ciaran is in the top 10 milers in the world with a best of 3:51. they will be two to watch for london 2012. Both have made huge sacrifices to be where they are now. Deirdre trains in Germany and Ciaran trains in Florida. GAA players are good but they can't compare to them. When they train 12 times a week they can start talking. Athletics here does not get the recognition it deserves but that is athletics ireland's fault

@JohnnyMarr85 they only get funding if they are in the top 12 in the world and they are only a few irish athletes in athletics that get that. this funding is only 20k, not exactly breaking the bank. they a look at some of the elite distance runners in this country and you'll'll see they run up to 100 miles a week, no GAA player does that equivalent in training and "most" of these elite runners have day-jobs
