  • What worked for me was cerium oxide — a powder used for rock polishing. Get a flat disk that attaches to your drill and a Scotch-Brite scouring pad. Mix water with powder to make a paste. Put the pad on the disk, add paste and polish away all the scum and lime and iron stains. It takes time but it leaves a really smooth, like-new surface. myrockhound(dot)com $14 for 4 oz did 4 glass doors and lots still leftover.
