I do this exact same things with an old microwave in my basement! I almost blew my hand off 3 times. My explosions were much more violent and usually took anywhere from 60-90 seconds. I thought I was going to die the first time one went off.
hats off... i guess your a pro at this... but you might wanna check out "microvaving a sealed water bottle" from tesla500... seeing your reflection right in front of the door glass had me cringing and thinking of superheated steam-induced third degree burns...
Microwave guy, are you that guy that was on that Swedish humor show a while back? Philip and Fredrik visited america looking for the most interesting people. It must be you?! Kenny! :) Ur great!
cool. They say that pure water will superheat, before it boils. Does sterile, pure water make a difference in how fast it will turn to steam? Have you ever super heated water and had it explode when it was disturbed later? I hear it can explode in your face, very dangerous. hmmmm
thanks for the insight. You're quite right, i had forgotten to consider the container's melting point. How about in open glass containers? Does sterile water have a better chance of superheating and retaining its composure than tap water? Check out superheating on google. I'm talking about open containers, such as coffee cups, which is how superheating became well known.
Distilled water (water with almost no impurities) in a perfectly clean glass jar has a 100% chance of superheating as long as it is not disturbed, It's because there are no nucleation sites for water vapor bubbles to form. The hotter it gets though, the more likely the water isn't pure enough for it to remain superheated at that temperature and concentration of impurities. As impurities increase the likelyhood of it superheating decreases. Most tap water has too many impurities to superheat.
It's the same principle with supercooling. It happens to me every day. The old fridge in my dorm room is slightly over freezing so whenever I pull out my ice mountain drinking bottles they come out liquid, but the slightest tap and they freeze instantly. I would bet that if I put that water in a perfectly clean glass jar, it would superheat as well.

It wouldn't superheat in a plastic bottle, the plastic melting would cause water bubles to precipitate before it could overheat.
