Because it's a personal list. The Beatles, like any band have many forgotten classics and songs that never got any recognition, for some reason. I have listened to all of their albums, and I think that many of their songs are better than Hey Jude.

I think I agree with the 'it's a matter of opinion' thing just because every beatles fan is different from each other, every one has a different Beatle favorite era, so if your's is the Studio era this list is definitely the most apropiate for you... That's funny. I had listened to all of their songs, but there are some old songs that today I think should be on the list, but also some of the newer ones.

And I could really care less about what songs were the most successful. In My Life is to me the weakest song on Rubber Soul. It's one of the few "succesful" songs that I never really considered on the list. It's just too boring to me. And my favorite album is a tie between Abbey Road and Magical Mystery Tour(!).

I just love the sound of Birthday. It's a personal favorite of mine. Day Tripper is probably the most easily recognizeable rock n roll song. It's so basic, but so good. Pure John Lennon genius.

Both Hey Jude and Here Comes the Sun were around #20, and that's pretty high up I say. It's not like those two songs are untouchable or anything.

I tend to prefer Harrison over the others too. He wasn't a song writing machine like John and Paul, but what he did write is some of the best work of The Beatles. Especially the two on Abbey Road and While My Guitar Gently Weeps on White Album.
