i noticed that some videos are NOT flv format but window media player CAN read them (somtime they are actually MP4 or WMV or others format, so if the media player CAN read them then just change for mp4/wmv instead of flv ... most "free" flv players are not as easy and stable as window media player is)
Awesome. I use a download tool for my flv files but this worked for swf files, which I could not do before. Only thing was the file I wanted was not listed in the default/cache folder(which is listed in the disk cache device as the cache directory), but was in the temp/cache folder. But that could be because of mozilla updates or whatever.
i have a question, before the mozilla firefox 3.6 update, this way to donwload videos worked fine, but now i can't find the folder anymore :/ pls help me,thx in advance
Yet another great way to look at the video download issue. Theres got to be a million approaches to downloading Youtube! But, I still tend to favor the 1-2-3 way of doing it.
Copy the URL, download in flv format, and play it with a free flv player. Short, simple and to-the-point.
I even have a tutorial built showing this process. Click on my username (top of this comment) to see how I do it.
Damn, I am so sorry dude but I just got Windows 7 and I now just use software to download vids now, But i think it is the same mehod in 7 as in vista and i did it the other day so I will PM you on the instrutions
CACHE FOLDER lS GONE IN NEWER FIREFOX VERSIONS. l HAVE MOZILLA FIREFOX 5.0 AND ONLY SEE "OFFLINE "CACHE" , "URLCASSIFIER3.SQLITE" , "XPC.MFL" , AND "XUL.MFL". lM THINKING ABOUT UPGRADING TO 4.0 SINCE l CAN DO MORE WITH IT OR RATHER WHATS IMPORTANT AND WHAT I WANT AS OPPOSED TO 5.0 SINCE THERES NO SETTING TO GET FIREFOX BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS BEFORE.

Hi! You can't download myspace music using this way, because in myspace, the music doesn't save in your cache, it uses a different method, called Streaming (google it).
The only way to save myspace music is recording it with a software while it is reproducing (I´ve done it, with good results). Also, there are some softwares to save streaming archives, but I think that it doesn't worth.
Thanks tutorxyz, your way works much better. I can VERY QUICKLY sort all them files by size and it QUICKLY becomes obvious which are my flv's. And, in case you haven't covered it. I copied pasted them into folder on desktop. Highlight them all... and then.. hold down the shift key and right click on any one of them, and add the *.flv to the end of that file.. it will rename them all to flv's. Thanks again.
"about:cache" is the pro way of saving vids down, but this video is showing you the long way, you can just type in "about:cache" and copy the Cache Directory underneath the 2nd heading "Disk cache device" into the windows address bar.
Also, does anyone know the reason why some files which are taken from cache don't work? E.g. I rename it ".flv", yeah, then when I try to open it with MPC, it says something about "codec..." and when I try open it with vlc it plays the bar with no sound/media?
you sound a bit haughty about it. it works, about cache thing. but DAMN who's got time to READ all that crap. humble yourself, and thank the poster here. your way sux
it's easy with firefox Download Helper plug in you can download from firefox site and come to youtube watch any video you want then click on the icon next to the address bar selec the video you watched then download video in one second no matter what size of the video is and also sort the video in any folder you want like normal downloding :)))
typing in about:cache is the way to do that quickly in firefox and chrome. In ie7 it is tools-settings-veiw files. The bad thing about downloading videos through the cache is that you need an flv converter if you want to put it on a dvd or edit it in movie maker.
Can i just somehow keep videos i want in cache so that it plays in the browser later with no streaming?

How to get the video streamed files from the latest firefox 8 cuz the cache is arranged some what like Apple file design....
merdox007 2 months ago
firefox 8 splitted the cache folder in thousands, so you can't sort it by size anymore (was the easiest way to save a video). And now?

I used to be able to do it, but now Im trying on a particular page and cant find the damn video file

EcstaticELYZSA 11 months ago
1. Win 7 Firefox cache path
C:\Users\praveen\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\7ygao0td.default\Cache
2. Sort by date & time or size
3. Copy file to own location
4. Rename the file with “filename.flv”
5. Play with vlc or flv player

Yes thats how it works!
To find the location of the cache folder type in the adres bar of firefox: " about:cache " .
When you find the folder, make a dektop shortcut of it.
Set the folder properties to "details", and sorting by date.
The file you want is the last big file in the list.
You can copy and past the title from youtube and rename the file, and add .flv behind it.
Play the file to check it, and move it to where you want it.

yes ftw!
AndreasDornerfan 2 years ago
Good method
Better way since you're much less likely to download a virus.
All videos that buffer are saved as a cache.
Only streams are not.
