Like a fine wine, they've all matured nicely and their musicianship still rocks. So refreshing they weren't 'here today gone tomorrow' like so much of todays musicians. This particular live version has so much energy. Loved the percussion. Bang on.
Such range even after all these yrs of relentless touring geddy lee still obtains that amazing voice of his. He's either inhuman or jus the greatest vocalist who ever lived. He's almost 60 and been at the mic for over 30 yrs any other singer would lose their range by now but no geddy lee keeps his. Thats jus pure heart right there.
Rush and their washing machines...i guess they dont have time to wash their clothes in between tours because they never stop writing material! thats nno problem tho cuz its epic! rock on Rush!!!!!!!
well, i saw it pretty much racially. Like the African-Americans fought for their rights because they were sick of oppression and stuff. but i guess it could reppresent any minority or group that has fought oppression, i.e. women's rights, gay rights, etc.
the song can be seen a couple different ways. either the maples are any minority group, and the oaks the majority, or the maples can be like koolstrike said, french canadians and the oaks as non french canadians. its your choice.
I know that, but there are a bunch of songs that are already on almost every Rush live album (e.g, Tom Sawyer, YYZ, The Spirit of Radio, Closer to the Heart, Working Man, etc.)
What's the point of removing songs from one album if it wasn't done before?
yeah, he doesn't use amps, since he rarely uses effects on his bass, he just runs it through the direct audio output and puts random things in their place.
Geddy Lee had his bass cabinets moved to underneath the stage, so he could feel the booming vibration from them. As a joke, he added washers and dryers on stage behind him to the spot where the bass cabinets were.
but for snakes and arrows tour 2007/2008 tour, they don't use washing machines, they use like some sort of rotisery thingy that cooks chicken. its just not orginal without those washing machines.
Love the acoustic guitar, and Alex playing the Telecaster - ah heaven! Great song - Geddy's voice isn't quite what it used to be I guess but God bless 'em.
I've been trying to find a video of this song for so long! "The Trees" has such an unusual subject... but hey, it just goes to show how creative Rush is.
Only Rush can write a song about trees and still fucking OWN!

I love the dryers in the background. Brilliant!
I used to listen to this song while driving through the Redwood Forest near Redding, CA.
georgemasiello 3 years ago 2
haha what are they for, just for looks, or what?
budwayz 2 years ago
they plug straight into the PA any chance they get. so the lack of halfstacks behind them are replaced with dryers to keep it from looking so empty
IepsyI 2 years ago
Geddy Has a small Amp, So he put the Washer and dryer of there to not look so small compared to alex's stacks.

Pretty obvious metaphor - it's always been a case of the "rich vs. the poor - the have's and have-not's and the small guy vs. the Corporation".

I also have to add that it's cool that Alex threw in those Beatles riffs at the end.
GrayLeader2184 3 years ago 2
This song should have been on the DVD.
I think it's really pointless that they cut about 10 songs off of it.
GrayLeader2184 3 years ago
That's because all those songs were already on the Rush in Rio DVD...redundancy etc.
Peatman 3 years ago

Cause the Rush in Rio and R30 tours and DVD's happened pretty much back to back.

There is always a washing machine i dont know y but this is the shit.

they're dryers. He wants a "warm crisp" sound to his bass. I saw them last week and he had rotisserie chicken ovens. lol

yea i saw them in denver and i was wondering where his amps were. thats hilarious. the videos had chicken in them too.

yeah, he doesn't use amps, since he rarely uses effects on his bass, he just runs it through the direct audio output and puts random things in their place.

he doesnt use amps at all anymore, he just plugs directly into the speakers
