  • well, we know birds came from Dinosaurs, the question is, what group. Theropods gave rise to birds, yet all dinosaurs aree related in their own way. Dromeosaurs seem to have lots more in common, visual wise, than Troodontids. If I remember, Troodontids came from dromeosaurids. So I'd have to agree with Dromeosaurids being the closest relatives

  • Btw, a set of teeth of Cretaceous birds like Hesperornis compared with crocodilens and Troodontids had something in common and that is constriction between the root and the tooth. This feature enabled a better interlocking grip onto the prey. Furthermore, other pelotologists also described the metatarsals in both Troodontids are pinched tightly and eventually fused in birds. So now I'm still struggling on these possibilities if Troodontids would had passed on these genes on to the Aves. ^_^

  • I agree with Kelvin on this one, but we're still far from letting this rest. I wish I could be of any help, but (mos to) maniraptorians in general, are not my subject.

  • Thank you so much for the reply. ^_^

  • Perhaps it is possible they are both equally related to birds? Did troodontids and dromaeosaurids derive from the same animal? hmmm...

  • Thanks for viewing. Yeah, this is a very interesting topic but with lots of confusion one. But I'm certain that the order of Deinonychosauria were related to birds. ^_^
