This is what Hot Toys should have done with their Tumbler for the price they charged LOL. Very nice work. Are those mini or micro servos in the front end? I used to be such an RC fanatic, but I just kind of stopped somewhere along the way. I loved converting toy cars into RC vehicles, and I was especially good at making my own bodies from 2 and 3 liter soda bottles. Brings back lots of memories. Again, great work.
@HotChixCoolToyReview Hey, thanks for the compliment! Those are regular sized servos up front for the steering and micro servos in the back controlling the flaps. I like converting toys to RC as well; Check out my Tonka Summit videos. Also check out dudebro313's General Lee videos. They are great! Have a nice day!
@70humbler Thank you! It took some some experimentation but once I figured it out it was really quite simple so that is why I inserted the part numbers in the video. Follow the link in the description to my blog on RCGroups for a complete parts list. Have a great day!
That is awesome. I missed out on that original black tumbler, but I'm gonna try to get the new one. It will be the Desert cammo version...I just can't tie down a date yet. I like that nieghborhood lake...perfect for my 8 foot RC aircraft carrier ! I have to travel to put her in the water ! Check my page for video.
Wow!! amazing work. Hey, how about going into the next level, suspension!! then you can pancake scale police cars after that. :)
I don't if you are familiar with this but i found an RC tire with the tread pattern of the Hoosiers used on the Tumbler, close enough though, look for
LOSB726, it's for Losi 1/10 scale Slider Sprint car. i dont know if the size is right for the front of your Tumbler.. Cheers!!
@henryballao "The little lights aren't twinkling, Clark." lol Just kidding Hi, thanks for the compliments! I actually bought those 1/10 Slider 2.2 tires but they were just too small. The only way to get scale tires the correct size is off a Hot Toys Tumbler but they would be difficult and expensive to come by and then they probably couldn't handle very much road wear and then you'd be in the market for another set. Anyway, the Tyco isn't perfectly scale so I compromised on the tires.
@henryballao BTW, the only correct tread pattern for the rears I could find (besides the Hot Toys) were RC4WD Rock Stomper 1.55 Offroad Tires RC4ZT0007 but there is no way those were going to stretch over the Tyco's! And don't doubt that I didn't think about trying! lol
@replayreb Searched for that rear tire and yes, they are exactly the same tread used on the Tumbler. why don't you just buy a Hot Toys 1/6 Tumbler and convert that into an RC unit or just get the tires and put those on your Tyco?
@henryballao Hot Toys Tumblers sell between $1,000 and $2,000 and are way too fragile to convert to RC plus there isn't enough room inside for all the electronics and then you'd have to invent a custom drivetrain for it. Even if you could do all that, if something breaks then it's another $1,000 to $2,000 just to get a replacement part. Yikes!
@replayreb yeah i hear yah, too much money at stake. my plan is to search for tires first, i already have a PDF file for a scratch built 1/6 scale tumbler. :) It's for a paper model and it is detailed as close as the original. interested? good luck on the search for the right tire size and tread patterns, and keep us posted and continue modifying that bad ass toy of yours, okei...
@addadd13 The Tamiya MFC isn't compatible with brushless but I learned I can run a splitter from the receiver to both the MFC and a brushless ESC. I'll work out the details and upgrade to brushless and we'll see just how fast it can go!
@addadd13 OK, I was going to upgrade to brushless but then I realized that if I split the throttle control to a separate brushless ESC then I then I will lose the ability to go into neutral and rev the engine that the Tamiya MFC-02 allows you to do which is a very cool feature of the Tumbler than I don't want to lose. I have instead ordered a Tamiya RZ Super Stock 23T brushed motor so we'll see what kind of speed I get with that. I'll post a video update when I get it installed.
@addadd13 I installed the Tamiya RZ Super Stock in the Tumbler and the MFC-02's ESC couldn't handle it and kept going in thermal protection mode and shutting down. I am going to install a Tamiya RS540 Sport Tuned motor in it as that is probably the fastest motor the MFC-02 can handle. I'll post a followup video when I get it installed.
@addadd13 I tried the Tamiya RS540 Sport Tuned motor but the MFC-02 would shut down if I accelerated too hard. The Tumbler did go about 25% faster it was way more difficult to control and I almost flipped it. Considering how hard it was to obtain the original Tyco body I decided to reinstall the stock motor. These experiments have convinced me I should stay away from brushless altogether lest I wrap the Tumbler around a tree or have to fetch it out of the neighborhood lake!
@4mods Thanks! I really enjoyed putting it together. Although the original Tyco electronics were child's play the actual body is really durable and has lots of room for upgrades like these.
Excellent work.
@5:02 is epic. You showed those playschool toys who the boss was :)
